    So how exactly will the story be told? Personally I love Actual voice acting, it gives the game that AAA feel. But text is fine too.

    I am not the story writer for the game just writing one quest.

  4. When talking to humans there is voice acting when talking to aliens there is also voice acting but it's like kotor and they will speak there own language and have a text dialog translate it... You'll see when the beta is finished Ryan's going to do a beta walkthrough for all the people who don't get the beta...

  5. Lol he's trying to win the contest to earn the beta... Anyone else who wants to write a quest could also try to win one or get there quest in the game...

    Dude, you have no clue how much I love KOTOR ! And I always enjoyed the dialogue!

  7. Yea I kinda wish they did that with mass effect I felt it added depth to the games lore...

  8. So since my part in making this game is for the most part complete (I'm the coder) and I tend to get in the way of everyone else I've been working on a side project when I'm not posting here fixing code or helping wih lore and world design... I'll be posting a new thread shortly talkin about this side project... All I'm gonna say is it's a first person rogue-like with a large overworld and a necromancers 20 story tower... Well I'm off to work have a good day all...

    I warned you all. Now here it is. Feed back please.

    Quest
    Key:
    Exposition
    CHOICE (a1) a1 leads to a1-1 or a1-2.
    [Player Dialogue]
    <NPC Dialogue>

    Name: Dreams of futures past.

    Intro: In one area you can speak to the shop keeper/merchant. If asked about what is bothering him the merchant will say that his friend is depressed and this worries him. You can ASK him about it more, or IGNORE it.
    a1-IGNORE: Quest not started, can redo the conversation to start it.
    a2-ASK: (Quest added) You ask him about the friend. He directs you to the man. When confronting the friend you can SMALL TALK, DIRECTLY ADRESS the problem saying [The merchant told me you are depressed. Why?], or LEAD INTO IT by saying [You look pretty depressed, Whats wrong?]
    a2-1:SMALL TALK: He chit chats, but seems distracted and broods on his lot. Loop back to decision before.
    a2-2: DIRECTLY ADRESS: You confront the man about his supposed depression. He is offended that you are blunt about it. (b1)APOLOGIZE for being rude [Sorry, I just wanted to get to the point], or (b2)PUSH HIM ON to explain [Quit whining, I just want to help.]
    Both get him to explain the problem.
    a2-3:LEAD INTO the problem by asking him if he is sad <Yeah, a bit> The next options are OKAY, and HOW COME?
    OKAY ends the conversation. Talking again starts the conversation loop back to OKAY, HOW COME, and adds SMALL TALK to this loop.
    (b3)HOW COME gets him to explain the problem.

    The Problem:

    He will explain his problem if you take any of the (b) options. The responses you chose change how much of the situation is revealed to you.
    (b1) After Apologizing he will say <Its okay. I have been distressed. You think you can help me? Its very important to me> You can say YES or NOT YET. NOT YET quits the conversation, but not the quest. Coming back to him after this will lead to him asking <Are you ready now?> This loops until you say YES. Upon saying YES, he explains that <I had a close friend on a ship that was on its way here. It was supposed to arrive a week ago but didn't. Can you help me check it out?> You can say (c1)HOW or say NO. If coming back after saying NO he will say <Can you help me now?> allowing one to level up before partaking this quest. Saying HOW he will say <I don't know. Maybe we should get the ship's last location?> Here you can SUGGEST the admiralty records if you know of them. You can also say I DON'T KNOW. If you say that, he will suggest asking the merchant in how to find out about the ship. The merchant will tell about the records and how to accesses them <You need to be involved with the government or a merchant. If you are not, I can loan you my accesses info.> You can then check back with the distressed man. Telling him how to accesses the records, he will search his his computer. The ship his friend is on will be located near another star system. <It reported last a month ago... We have to check it! Can you help me?> If you say NO, he will say <SO WHY DID YOU PRETEND TO CARE!?> He will go off on his own to the ship. (Quest finish A) He won't becoming back. The merchant will raise selling prices and not pay you for trade ins. This Merchant also has friends that will raise prices for you. Also locks out Admiralty accesses, since he changes his password. (Worst Quest Ending)
    Saying (c1)YES will lead to him joining your party. Then you two go off to the ship. (b2) <Well if thats the case, you could have been kinder. Anyway I have a friend I think is stuck on a ship. I need your help to me find it.> You can go through the Admiralty sequence above and head off. Or you say THAT STINKS. He will say <So your not helping?> Here you can say I AM, or NO I AM NOT. I AM NOT leads to him saying <I'll find someone else then.> This will make SMALL TALK, I AM, and I AM NOT loop. (c2)I AM leads to you two heading off to the ship.
    (b3)Saying HOW COME will lead him to explain the situation. <A friend of mine is on a ship that was supposed to be here a week ago. But it hasn't arrived. Can you help me check on it? Its name was the FLYNN > Admiralty sequence again. Upon finding out the info he joins your party and the two of you head out to the ship. (c3)

    Aboard the FLYNN

    (c1) You arrive near the FLYNN. All radio calls produce no response. You will have to board it. The guy asks you can I come along? Saying YES has him say <Thanks, I won't hold you back.>
    Saying NO has him say <But I can hack and know how to use cryogenic systems.> You can say OKAY and he comes along (d1) If you still refuse, he will persist. If you go without him he will be on the radio to keep contact(d2)
    (c2) He thanks you, kind of. <At least you are taking me there.> Upon receiving no response to radioing the FLYNN you decide to board it. The man comes along, saying <You are not going on alone. I know hacking and cryogenic systems> You say [Fine then. Don't get in front of my gun.] He responds <You know, despite being you this way, thanks.> You two board the FLYNN(d3).
    (c3) <Your really helping me out here man. Thanks.> You say [No problem. Who is this person anyway?] <She is one of the best people you can know. She is smart, funny...> [I see.] Player "yes" nods his head. Radio calls not being responded to you choose to board. Choice is same as (c1)

    (d1) You two are on the ship. Its walls are riddled with blast marks, blood stains (red and green), and scratches. On board there are feral alien monsters. They stalk the halls. Among the debris are bodies of crew members. They have either empty weapons or half clips plus some minor healing items. The man lives up to his hacking claims. He opens locked doors and hacks logs for info. The cryogenic section is the main goal, but a log from the captain asks that the ship be destroyed to contain the aliens. The log mentions an engine reactor overload may do the job. This is an optional path covered in (e1). It opens once you get the friend back. Going to the cryogenic section leads to finding most of the chambers broken. At the end tough he finds his friend in the only intact chamber. Here you have to defend him for the amount of time it takes for him to safely get her out of the chamber. There are two old sentry guns he will activate for assistance. After helping her out, he will carry her back while you escort them to your ship. This leads to (Quest finish B) he returns with his friend back to the planet. Reunited with her he thanks you for the help, saying <You don't realize how much this means to me.>[Your welcome.]
    The girl also thanks you. Coming back to the region, the locals are friendly to you. If you ask the girl who is she, she will say <I'm his sister. I payed for him to get here for a new life. Went on a cryo ship to avoid aging so we can still connect. Thanks for everything.>
    Rewards: Money, A weapon, and the merchant you started this with lowers prices for you, as well as his friends. A dungeon in the FLYNN.

    BUT, If the friend's cryogenic pod gets damaged beyond sixty percent health, she dies in his arms. The body is carried back to your ship. He is extremely distraught and decides <We are blowing this shop and those monsters.> He leads you to the reactor room, crying <We almost had her. We almost had her!>.
    This goes to (e2)
    (d2) You go in alone, remaining in radio contact. Some logs are unhackable as well as the sentries in the cryogenic section. If you choose to destroy the ship, the man radios <Get her first!>. If you say NO he refuses to help hack the reactor. The cryogenic section will be harder without the sentries. If she lives, You can walk her back to your ship, using you pistol/melee weapon to defend her. If she dies, you carry her back while the monsters don't attack but snarl at you. With her alive you go to (Quest Finish B)

    With her dead it, you apologize to the man. He only cries at the loss. Back at the planet there is a small burial. He puts an epitaph on her grave. It reads
    {I have stood by the shores of existence
    Been along the limits of time
    It was there on the edge of Infinity
    That I said to you nothing would seperate us
    But alas it did}. (Quest finish C)
    Rewards: Small amount of money. One ship to use as a dungeon.

    (e1) You go down to the reactor with the guy. He starts to set it to blow. But a massive Alien Monster appears. Boss fight. Afterwards you must escape as the ship starts to collapse. Escaping the ship, you destroy the FLYNN. Then Quest Finish B.
    Minus the use of the FLYNN as a dungeon.

    (e2) The man rages on, blasting monsters recklessly. At the reactor The boss appears before the Man gets to the panel. He assists you in the fight. After you two beat it, he sets the reactor to blow. Getting on the ship, go to (Quest Finish C) minus the FLYNN as a dungeon.

    NOTE: If the player has high enough hacking (If that is an in game mechanic, The player can blow the ship anytime. Or just repeat the boss.)
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    There you have it guys. I hope it is good enough.
    Edit: Stupid emotes.
    Looks good and you have really thought about all the outcomes. when planning a game of this scale a standardised format for describing the dialog and missions needs to be established. A flow chart might help but thats something ZdGames can do.
    I guess its statements like this that worry me about you ever getting any game out.
    "the coding is for the most part complete"??????
    The scope and work of your game would scare off all but the biggest AAA developers but you have already almost completed all the coding?
    So you have coded
    the inventory system
    the interaction system
    the hud
    the a.i
    the saving system
    the audio
    player controls
    the dialog system
    the mission system
    the dynamic loading of assets
    the screen resolution scaling code
    the levelling system
    weapon upgrades
    the looting
    the hacking
    the shop system
    the flight controls
    the ship upgrade options
    .
    .
    .
    .
    and this is still just scraping the surface. (or should I say scripting the surface)
    You know you carn't just type this into javascript
    var game = UnityAssetStore.GetComponet("Mass Effect type game");
    people off this forum are now investing there own time producing icons and mission concepts trusting this game will happen.
    Now your already starting another project?
    I'm confused too. If the coding is "for the most part complete" then that means the game is for the most part complete. Did I miss something? The last video I saw didnt even have any gameplay in it.
    Trust me, the coding is never complete until you ship the game. And, even then, on a large scale game you only ship because you decided to not fix a lot of bugs and not include a lot of features that you originally wanted.
  17. Holy crap yes... Wow you are amaizing...
    Damn... That code always worked before... I should shut my big fat mouth before it gets us into trouble... What I ment is at the moment they don't need me... We are done with coding for now... Not forever but for now I am the fifth wheel... As we focus on other things like the lore and world building I still have to code quests codexs dialogue and other things like shops but we are at that point in which I mostly get in the way so in my boardum I rebooted my old first project in unity... Don't worry as it has been on the shelve for over 4 years now and will probobly go back to the shelve untill this one is released...that was just my wistfully thinking I could do something by myself and have any range of success... Your right I'll get back down to earth and have phil slap me around more as I help him with lore and spell every other word wrong... No I'm not done coding I'm sorry I worded that wrong... I do have these operational but they will require tweeking
    the interaction system
    the a.i
    the saving system
    the audio
    player controls 50%
    the dialog system
    the levelling system
    weapon upgrades
    the looting
    the shop system
    the flight controls
    the ship upgrade options(weapon attachments and new ship purchase)
    .all of these will require ajustments but we are currently building a beta so they can be tested and adjusted...
  19. You are In deed correct I'm sorry I worded that wrong my soscial skills suck and I type faster than I think...lol
  20. Sorry one and all forget the other side project... That was just something I was working on in my spare time... You are correct the coding is not done... I was just finding something to do on the days we couldn't get together and work on c.0.ntact...
