Join me in my crusade to have the word "addictive" banned from App Store descriptions!
Every one of the hundreds of Bejeweled clones... every brick-breaker... every graphically-deficient 2D space shooter is always described as "addictive."
Not to mention the thousands of "addictive" solitaires and sudokus and jigsaw puzzles!
C'mon, developers, give it a rest. You spent a lot of time creating your games, spend a few minutes to come up with a description that doesn't depend on the over-used "A"-word!
By now, most of us have learned that if a game is described as "addictive," it's usually pretty dull....

Heh, I had the same thought a while ago. Virtually all games are described as "addictive" and yet few of them actually are.

  4. Well, to be fair to the dev's, they ARE trying to sell their app after all. What do you suggest they put?

"You can buy this game if you want to- you won't be playing it for long though coz you get bored after a few minutes. But hey, at least it's cheap!"

Something that attempts to describe why the game is fun, instead of "addictive", which at this point is meaningless and usually wrong.

I agree. Also, addictive is a very subjective word. I find Galcon addictive, others may not.

I find ignoring/deleting crap apps to be highly addictive.

    addictive
    -adjective
--an addictive prescription drug habit-forming, addicting; causing dependency.

I think I like habit-forming the best! In fact the next app I see that uses habit-forming instead of addictive has my money sewn up

Maybe if we just rekindled our love of the word addictive by enhancing it with other words. Example:

"Wow, this flashlight app is almost as addictive as crack!"

You see, that would get me to buy it :)

It's good, but I'm leaning toward "causes dependency"..."This match-3 game causes dependency! After playing it, you will have to match 3 forever or else you will go into convulsions and die!" Yep, I'm there.
