    Latest Cast of Characters:

    Hey all,

I'm still hard at work on DarkNet, but while I was at PAX I started work on a small game that I thought I'd share.

If you've never been to PAX, there are a lot of very long lines to wait in. I wanted a simple and streamlined roguelike style game I could play to keep me entertained, and ButtonHack is what I came up with:

Right now there's only a handful of encounter types and monsters, but we plan to add a lot more over the next few weeks. Here's a shot of the characters to date:

Please give the prototype a try, and please let me know what you think!

(And for those of you wondering, we're still hard at work on DarkNet, new video should go up tomorrow)

    Thanks!

It's a bummer about unity + linux, I really hope it's true that the next version will support linux builds (there was a rumor about it recently). At the very least their flash export will give us some sort of an option.

    Played some Rounds.

First at all this Game does need Landscape Mode.

Second i guess that Game would run pretty well with Apple iAd if you keep it Free and work on a little Story for it.

Third and last - Add Twitter Support/Gamecenter Achievements - We love those ;)

    Thanks for checking it out!

That's the first request I've gotten for landscape mode, but I'll definitely keep it in mind as I go forward.

I definitely want to do achievements, but I can't really pick what they're going to be until the game is farther along. I had been aiming to try and figure out approx 30 achievements for the initial release.

Thanks for the offer & recommendation! We're not ready to do iOS testing, we'll be doing a few more web playable prototypes as we add features, and switch over to device testing when we're feature complete.

    Woohoo, new build!

    Link to new build!

Tons of new changes since last week's build, here's a quick rundown:
    • Lots of new monster sprites
    • First boss monster
    • First epic boss monster
    • Reworked vendor and inventory screens
    • Stackable items
    • Gathering of crafting mats (no crafting though, but soon!)
    • HP Restoring fountains
    • Thieves. Dirty rotten thieves.
    • HP/MP bars
    • Dust as you run
    • More sound effects
    • First pass at enchanted gear
    • Mob tables now have min/max level
    • Treasure drops now are more level appropriate
    • Vendors should always have at least one level-appropriate health potion
    • Flee is no longer a 100% success rate, beware!
    • Start of the dungeon “minimap” to show your progress through the dungeon

Enjoy! And as always, I'd love feedback if you have it!

After 92 kills I died a horrible death!

I like what you have done so far with your game.

I do have a few suggestions though.
    - is it possible to show the enemy die in an explosion of pixels or in
    a puff of dust?
    - is it possible to be able to compare what you want to buy with what
    you already have equipped?

Also , just a thought....how about being able to negotiate with the enemy?
If your health is low and you don't have any more health potions, you could try giving the baddy a herb or mana potion or something. Perhaps in return, you might receive a health potion or get a portion of your health
regenerated. A fire demon may give you a fire spell which will kill an ice demon
    in one hit.

    Keep up the great work!

    Thanks

Some sort of enemy death animation is definitely in the cards, we're only ~ 2 weeks in right now so there's lots left to do!

Item comparison is a great idea, I'll add it to the long TODO list. :)

A negotiation framework would be really cool... I'd have to make sure that it didn't overly slow down/complicate the game. It's a really interesting concept, I'll mull it over. No promises on this one though, might have to try to fit it into some other project if it doesn't end up working in this one. :D

Saves and leaderboards are both definitely on my TODO list. Any particular leaderboards you'd want to see?

Cool, that's all in the plans. Also going to try to come up with a system to assign an overall "score" as the primary leaderboard (maybe per-class, maybe overall, I don't know yet).

    Thanks again for the feedback!
