Promise I won't post about this again lol, but I've reclaimed the top spot with 1.16 bil - Palm no miss no bomb. Still think the game needs separate leaderboards for difficulty or it's broken. I did it on Normal, so what's the incentive to play Hell? Oh well, still fun as [bullet] hell. /hangs head in shame owner's manual was only available for a few weeks in Japan and goes for a couple hundred dollars on eBay
I envy your score once again I just did a run on normal/god but failed to 1CC, will try again tonight. I can't play original atm because I always go for the score
Hey zeth Of course I'm being crazy but I didn't even know there was a manual let alone selling on eBay for big cash!!! Guess we learn something every day
I'm a bit late to the conversation, but... Cave was asked on twitter several weeks ago if they're going to delete the hacked scores. They're response: "We find it difficult to determine whether a particular score is hacked or not so we do not plan on deleting them. Thanks."
maybe someone can tell how many people are at gc leaderboards for this game now and if there is separate leaderboards for people playing with inapp cheats?
There's one person with an impossible hacked score on every leaderboard. I can't believe Cave is unable to tell that 9trillion is hacked in a game where the world's best players are around 3 billion. They're broken anyway because most of the top scores aren't even done on Hell difficulty. My Normal score is #2. Pretty sure devs can't directly modify GC leaderboards too, so the response is even stranger. Maybe I'm wrong but I thought that was the case in the past. I'm gonna post some scoring tips I've learned from playing the crap out of this for the past few months (360) if anyone's interested. There's no separate leaderboard. When you activate the custom options it simply doesn't submit your score. Though I'm still trying to figure out how people are scoring 100mil+ on stage 1 original when 60-70 is all that's possible playing "normally". All the other stage scores are normal.
Yes, please! Oh, and on twitter Cave said there was a separate leaderboard for the inapp cheats. I don't see one...
Sorry for the long post, have a boring morning and too much coffee: This is mostly for Original mode. I'm assuming you know the basics: Every 3k on the overall counter, the color changes. Green=Spread, Blue=Laser. Same goes for bosses at the end of a phase, kill them with the correct shot for max Gems. Holding Laser picks up gems from ground, etc. Shedding (I’m just going to call it that) is the next most important scoring mechanic. Normally point-blanking medium/large enemies will make them shed small gems until they die. After your stage counter (smaller, white one) reaches 9999, these enemies will begin to shed large gems and you need to exploit that. You can also shed midbosses. A few of them are key for huge scores. The turtle in Stage 2 is a good one to start with. You can hover on top of him nearly the entire time producing tons of gems. To score high in Original you need to play fairly aggressively. This can be super frustrating because of how easy it is to ruin an entire run with one mistake, but Novice and Normal mode make it much easier to practice. (Actually you can get similar scores in those modes too). All of this can be seen in any of the good replay/superplay videos on YouTube but I figured I'd point out a few. I guess I'll list each stage. In general you want to get your stage counter to 9999 ASAP, bullets and enemies will move faster at this point, but it's not as noticeable as the 360/arcade version IMO. Also collecting gems as soon as they appear is preferable (while they're still flashing blue/white), they're worth more that way. Certain objects/enemies will have a secondary explosion of gems which you should hover over to maximize points. You get an extra life at 100mil and 200mil points. The third extend is a 1up item in Stage 5. Stage 1: The first thing to note is that enemies at the very top of the screen are invulnerable for a short time as they enter the play area. You can take advantage of this throughout the game to get your shot/option on them and make them shed gems before they're killed. You'll see players do this a lot on medium/large enemies. The larger dragon type enemies in the second half of the stage are great for this. Learn when and which direction they come from, then be there before they arrive, following them as they move onto the screen to shed as many gems as possible. Stage 2: Take advantage of all the jellyfish around the ice pillars before you destroy them. They're also great for shedding in Fever mode. Try to get your counter to 9999 before the Turtle midboss because you can get a ton of gems from him by shedding. The flying manta ray guys in the second half are also great for shedding, especially with Reco (Palm kills them much faster). Stage 3: The second half of this stage can be the most difficult thing in the game. The bug hives are great for points though, as well as the large beetles. Killing the final boss with spread shot(regardless of counter color) makes bonus gems appear underneath him after he's destroyed. Stage 4: Sweep back and forth or use the "U" pattern to heard bullets to an area you can safely escape. This stage is huge for shedding grasshoppers/caterpillars with Reco, Palm kills them much faster but it's possible with him too. The moths can also be exploited for tons of shedding gems. When the spider mid-boss shoots his web stuff out, kill him with spread shot regardless of counter-color for large gems. Stage 5: There are small lanterns throughout the level which, if destroyed at point-blank range, will cancel all bullets on screen for a few frames and make enemies shed gems in fever mode. The lanterns will then start spouting small gems. These are great for clearing the screen out during the midboss encounters. (EDIT: Lantern cancels don't work in the iOS port for some reason) The 1up building has to be destroyed with shot/laser, if a bomb is used too close it won't appear. Overall counter is hugely important to your score, as it's a multiplier. If you're hit with auto-bomb activated, you escape death but the counter resets to zero. Regular deaths cost 1/3 of your total counter. When the counter reaches 100k bullets move much faster and you get a per-frame score increase and permanent fever mode. There are quite a few things I missed, but these are the basics. edit: last post on the page If anything here is wrong, please let me know!
Thanks zeth for the helpful tips Just bought the game today and started playing and it's simply amazing!!!! Since I have the privilege of owning all of Caves games on IOS I felt I should get this and I'm so glad I did! A special thanks to Syntheticvoid for his review on The App Shack that sealed the deal for me!! Cheers
Appreciate it! The game is so good, and so satisfying, and deep, and challenging - I've been playing it for a long time and I'll probably continue to play it for a while.
Finally bought and so far only one playthrough of original. Agree with the comments above that this is much, much more than the vanilla version. The speed and patterns of the bullets make the game a pure adrenaline rush which to me, is only matched by DDPR. Counter is more forgiving with 3000 switchover, since I play on iPhone, and can't wait to play through maniac and god mode. Hopefully Cave will put out more BL versions, but not sure how successful this game is knowing the nature of the app store price wars, but I would rather play BP2BL than 20 EA games. Thanks guys for convincing me to see the light.
I have a question, I haven't any Bug Princess 2.. is worth buy both, the vanilla and the BL, or you think I can miss the regular (don't bother me buying both if it's the general opinion)? PD: Offtopic, ESPGALUDA II *HD* works in iPhone? I have the confusion because in cave-world web say that it's for iPad 2, but in the App Store say it works on both, iPhone and iPad.
I have both, and I wouldn't come back to BP2, if you have that money to spare, maybe it's worth. I find the modes on BP2BL much cooler, I've posted the differences a couple of pages back. ESPGaluda II HD actually do work on iPhone 4 (on 4s as well I presume), some say it isn't as smooth, but I have the non-HD version and I don't see a big difference, but everything is so crisper and defined, that, IMO, I prefer the sacrifice of a bit of smoothiness to have crisp and clear graphics.
bought it and agree that original mode is much better than vanilla version, however maniac mode is not as playable as in vanilla because the gauge drops down slower and if in vanilla it was possible to play without using shot off and still getting good scores in this version you just have to use it. and on touch screen it's a bit complicated. and of course there is the same lame ui like in other games. cave could not give a f more about it.
