Just got it, really a fan of Bug Heroes. :)

    Just wanted to ask,
are ants good guys or bad guys? Cause the first three levels focuses on Spider being a bad guy and her enemies are ants which are supposed to be good guys at that point. Beetle later fights armored ants so I'm really confused. :O
And yes, even the other bugs' story lines are important, at least for me. :p

I'm going to assume based on this question you haven't played the original Bug Heroes that this is a prequel-re-imagining of sorts to.

This is not in any way that kind of RPG game, in fact the RPG elements are only slightly deeper than they are in the original game. The original game is a brilliant mashup of castle defense, dual stick "shooters", RPG, RTS, etc.. It's a brilliant game. The core module (spider, beetle, and ant, the three characters this game is built around) is free, so there's no excuse not to check it out.

If you like what you see in the original core game, then by all means consider parting with the massive amount of $1 to get several hours of a mission based adventure/RPG that utilizes the majority of the mechanics from the core game, but does so in a nicely done twist. However, as the first game is by no means a casual title, neither is this one, and the story, mechanics, etc., all draw from the original, so if you have no love for and/or experience with the original Bug Heroes, this is probably not the place to start.

Last, since you asked, there are more items than in the original game, and while many of the items might take you a while to get powerful enough to reach, there's none of the sort of randomized loot you appear to be seeking. It's much more a about your own skill and beefing up the characters enough to unlock and survive the tougher missions where the better gear is (and then going back to replay lower level missions where you can achieve gold medal where you just scraped by earlier)

Well, there is an abstracted camera view of third-person action, does that count? :D

Other than that, not remotely similar. The closest I've seen to a Diablo like game on iOS is the Dungeon Hunter games, but they've got none of the soul or polish to do more than kill a week with before you're bored.

    Looking into it asap!

They are both... there is only a small faction of Resistance Ants left, but they are ragtag and pretty shaken up, which is why even a single Widow Assassin can go in there and destroy a whole Ant camp. It will go into more detail later in the game ;)

Also we are noting the difficult levels, thanks everyone.

As C.Hannum said, no no random loot, but there is quite a bit of equipment, armor, weapons and abilities to find and equip, though not really in the traditional sense of an RPG. It is more about continually upgrading and customizing your character based on the threats you are currently facing (outfitting your character for masses of small units, to deal with large units, or just an all around set-up). You can also customize the skills that you master when leveling up.

In terms of combat, it is indeed much more skill based and "actiony" then a regular action/RPG.

Finished the game. Here are some bugs and issues I've come across.

*Sometimes when you leave behind large bugs when moving to new areas the large bugs start teleporting around the new area like crazy, to the point you could see 5 to 10 simultaneous teleport-smoke puffs from the same bug. Does this happen to be the bug you were trying to squash before submission?

*I've had some issues with level-up skills where certain skills would just automatically be replaced by the original skill. Like Armor. No matter how many times I equip Beetle's armor, after one mission, Armor is replaced with Regeneration.

*I found a grammatical/spelling error in the dialog, but I forgot where. ;)

*I switched out Poison Cloud while it was active, and things got extremely buggy. Poison Clouds turned into green rectangles.

*I don't like how you have to seek out a skill master in order to switch your skills. It's a boring process, looking for a mission with a skill master to replay. It should be available at the beginning of each level.

*The final mission is way too easy. I took out the Scorpion King with just Ant, and I hardly took any damage. I just kited him and used Howitzer, whose cooldown was reset a couple of times due to Chance, and used an Assassin Bomb and that was it. I expected a mission I'd have to fail a couple of times to win.

I've witnessed the first one myself on the first Quest clouds of black smoke kept springing up all over in certain areas.

I would like the green circle showing where the hero is on the map to be a little more bold. Sometimes it is hard to find on the screen.

I have barely played Bug Heroes the last few months :)(), but Quest still has not been real difficult so far through 26%... Personally, I wouldn't change the difficulty at all.

Thanks. The teleport bug is a pathing issue (that we thought we fixed all of them)... they are generally specifically related to the maps themselves, so if you ever see it happen again, can you let me know exactly where it happened and on what level?

Other issues have all been jotted down and should be fixed!

We'll wait for more feedback on the final level, but will certainly consider your thoughts. The tough part is that it will be harder for some and easier for others simply depending on how many optional missions you decided to complete, and how hard you leveled your heroes up. We don't want to make it impossible if someone chooses not to play through 100% of the game before reaching the final level, for ex.

Can anyone who has played this on a 1st gen device let me know how well it runs?
I'm still on the fence about picking this one up (yes, it's only $1, I know!)

I remember it happening in the Cockroach hideout and in the level where you have to take out the battery in Bedroom (the same map with the giant pill bugs). In both cases it was caused by Giant and Elephant Snails.

Perhaps not just a raw increase in difficulty, but I think it should be a more dynamic and tactical fight that requires the use of all 3 heroes. I pretty much kited the boss to death using Ant without even using Luckyshot. I didn't get to use Beetle or Spider (aside from one Assassin Bomb). It would have been interesting for example if we had to fight off several minibosses at the same time which require the use of different heroes to do efficiently while avoiding the Scorpion.

FM, question for you: do the character skills still work to an extent even if they are not actively selected? I am assuming you are still going to do more damage if you've buffed that skill even if others are selected. For example, if I buff up the stun skill - but then play a level with it not selected, am I still going to have some stunning power (of course, it would not be as much as if it was selected). I noticed that Repel still works to an extent even if I had to used it - though it is still equipped. Can a skill work even if not one of the four? Again, example, if I do not have regeneration selected as one of my four skills/abilities, would my character still regenerate but at a much slower rate - or do they even not regenerate if that ability is not one of the four selected?

I know you do not want to give out trade secrets, but I am curious. I see that the four active skills work more when they are equipped even if you are not activating them (like in the original Bug Heroes).

actually why there is no difficuilty settings, the ammount of small f enemies on each level and teleports are just too frustrating, feels like it is more for hardcore bug heroes gamers.

I noticed one thing which may be a bug or simply something overlooked in the making of the game: when you see a skill master, change your abilities, then play a few other levels, it seems that the skills reset back to what you had chosen before you saw the skill master, which is a bit of a pain. It seems you can play a few prior levels before this happens, but then it kicks in again. If a skill master was in every level, it wouldn't matter so much - but when you sometimes have to go out of your way to find him, it becomes time consuming, especially when you want to try out different skill sets to see how they work ingame and in different situations.
