Ok! I've only played the first couple missions/level/thingies and

    WOW!

Amazing! I'm liking the story (alot) the music (only heard spider's soundtrack but still) and yeah wow FM, you've done it again!!

I can understand some people's complaints about the map, though. But it's better than no map! :D

Glad -- for the most part -- most seem to be enjoying the game :) We will indeed work on getting the map more "usable."

Hey Mr Grizzly, when I got the gift from you there was an email. I clicked "Recieve Gift" or something at the bottom and, like the other dude said, it opened Itunes and started downloading from there.

I'm back among the non-chitinous, and I carry back some impressions:

    • I don't understand the map complaints, as I find it a great but balanced asset, one that is both conveniently implemented (having it as a transparent overlay is truly convenient), but that also carries its own challenge, as it cannot be studied in peace.
    • While the music becomes repetitive, it is also great, the repetiveness nothwithstanding. The mix of eastern influences, techno beats and the exotic and esoteric does a splendid job of both capturing the minitiarized, pretend samurai culture, and bestow some adrenaline upon the battle sequences.
    • The mechanics from Bug Heroes carry over greatly into an action RPG, and I often find myself wondering which of these games feel like an extension of the other. The end-result is probably that I could not choose either game, had FM only ever made one of these titles, and that they compliment each other supremely well. Apart, they are brilliant iOS titles. Together, they feel more like a PC AAA experience, in depth and variation.
    • Wow. There a A LOT of equippable level up skills. A LONG list. Thanks to this, new weapons, and not always readily available equipment/active abilities swapping, character customization is VERY strong.
    • Missions are very varied, and the different mechancs inherited from BH are used to a good effect. Find stuff (help Beetle become a farmer, priceless!), kill, fetch, unlock, the usual faire, are joined by enemies ambushing your camp in the middle of conversations with NPCs, battles to the bitter end (where you eventually loose, but hopefully with style), defending bases with the aid of turrets, timed survival sequences, etc, etc.
    • Normally, I don't want to see damage numbers displayed on-screen (though I like being able to access them in a hidden prompt), but for some reason, they work really well in BHQ. Makes gameplay seem just a tad more RPG-y, and they are very convenient in seeing the effect of abilities, level skills increases, etc. I wouldn't mind seeing them slither their way into vanilla BH as well :)
    • The "casual action RPG" moniker might be a good way to encourage the less insectoally fanatic to try the game, but it really does not do it justice. For an iOS game, this is quite the hardcore RPG.
    • BHQ is actually occasionally rather challenging. Not in the sense that you'll be grinding yer molars like whetstones down to sorry stubs, but in that you occasionally do die, have to reply the level, or just fight with teeth clenched (but still a bit away from actual grinding) and arms tensed in order to survive.
    • It is just tons and tons of fun. I've played few games, ever, which do a better job of inflicting the dreaded "just one more level..." curse. The combination of great and rather skill-demanding action, customization and progression, and the strangely and surprisingly graspable universe create a game which is both approachable, characteristic and original, and well-rounded and complete.

    Weak points

    • The writing. Yes, I know this is the great story chapter, the saga of the initial Bug Heroes finally revealed, but the writing is a bit too casual, the tone and register not quite up to the task or suitable for many dialogues, and the overall impression leaning closer to fan fiction than professional writing. However, I do believe rather few will take notice. Or care :)
    • Some few low-res art assets, such as main meny buttons. Entirely forgettable in the large scheme of things, but it does give a slightly unprofessional impression.

    Suggestions:

    • Being tied up in conversation with NPCs during heavy battle sequences is annoying. Disable the NPC interaction while there are enemies close by, or add a (probably redundant) button for interaction.
    • Add the bosses to the Insectopedia in the library, with a short backstory on each boss. I was gladly surprised to see that the game actually features bosses (inflated normal enemy models though they may be), but not including them in the Insectopedia might give the impression that the library feature has just been copy-pasted from BH. Most importantly, it would be fun to check up on defeated named enemies.

That's it for my early (15-20% percent of the game completed) impressions. I've got a foe-cappin' SMG-tootin' punk-bustin' arthropod-hatin' Ant to gear up and roll out, and somewhere out in the darkness of the back yard, the Scorpion King grows ever more hungry for conquest...

I enjoy the game enough to hope that it only gets better with age, so here I am to critique. As a preface, I'm only on the level where ant gets his first new gun so I'm not nearly done with the game. Also, I've never been pro at BH. Had my names up on the leaderboards at some points but never consistently. Still a huge fan and love the game, and this game. On to my points:

    1. This sort of game needs some sort of healing. Far too often I find myself dying because spawning gnats have whittled away at Spider's health 8 at a time. Food spawn seems inconsistent. I've had no food spawn for three levels straight and then a big plate of food spawn when I'm already full health. Obviously this is not a problem on Beetle, but for Ant and Spider I'd like some sort of life leech or health regen to help me get through the levels. Or just fix the food drop system to be more consistent. Either way, for THIS game and what it is, I feel like some sort of solid healing system is needed for me to really have fun.

    2. The spawns. Oh Lord, the spawns. I'm kiting around a bunch of bugs as ant, shooting them down one by one, slugs are flinging poison that will slow me if it hits me, and that slow would allow the flea gunners to tear me apart. Luckily, I'm kiting well and whittling them down. Oh. Wait. A bug spawned right next to me and stopped me from moving. There's the poison slow aaaaannnd... yep, those flea gunners DID tear me apart. While I understand the need for enemies to respawn, I'd prefer them to respawn VERY far away from any fights I'm in. I'm talking, like, across the damned stage. I think that would help with not only the health problem above (although not completely solve it) but also with the pacing of the game, letting you take some time to breathe and explore in relative safety between crazy skirmishes.

Those are my big two criticisms. Damage limits for gold annoy the heck out of me, but I can understand that they're meant to be challenging.

I love the game and its music. In particular, Spider's Orientalish themes are awesome. I replay those levels just to hear that music.

Keep supporting it and working on it, and I think this rough gem will be pretty darned smooth and shiny when it's all said and done. Can't wait to see what you guys do after this.

I dont know if this has been mentioned before but ...

Right now , my only complaint is that when maneuvering the character , im not focusing on where my thumb is and occasionally , I would move my finger out of the touch zone and it would get stuck in that direction which would then require me to deposition my thumb . Although some may think its a small issue but for me , its annoying enough for me to put this game aside until that issue is fixed . Thank you for reading this .

95% done! Getting close:) I only have two small complaints. The first has been already said, it would be better if the map was more translucent. The second thing is that i was wondering if bhq will receive a leaderboard system like the one in the original game. I have never been a fan of GC so I don't quite like the leader boards they use. If I'm missing something and your own leaderboards actually exist I'm sorry lol

I can't get past the kitchen level 7 where spider is injured. There seem to be so many hungry bugs that I don't have time to kill them all. I got trapped on the bridge with hungry bugs and spider died at full health. Ant came next, but I quickly realized how stupid I was not to use stampede to run out of there. I managed to get out, but died soon afterwards. I replayed the level 5 times and I kept dying.

So far I think that the game is great though. I love the music by the way, and the map is pretty good, there doesn't seem to be a problem except you can't read it without being attacked.

Brilliant, brilliant game! I found myself laughing out loud several times already, mostly at the Beetle and his musings. That doesn't happen a lot.

Most of the stuff has already been mentioned but a few things I still have to address:

    - The damage limit for Gold status is pretty harsh. Don't think I've gotten any golds other than with Beetle. Sure I know you can (and are supposed) to come back later when you're more powerful to tackle the old quests for gold status but still the damage limit seems really really far out.

    - The map button. Often times I find myself holding my left thumb on the move button and reaching over the screen with my right index finger to open the map. Don't know if it's my accuracy or a bit unresponsive map button I have to tap it a lot of times effectively blocking my view and killing my bugs in the process.
Definitely make an option to move the map button to the right side of the screen, maybe just to the left of the first special skill on the top of the screen.

Other than that this game is just what iOS needed. A highly customizable RPG with a a lot of humor.

I am getting gold on many levels now - but first I had to level up spider a bit first. It also helps when he gets his weapon upgrade and executioner - then you can take down the enemies quickly when you are not able to dodge their attacks. Still having fun. I think some might do a little better on this game if they had already been playing the characters on the original Bug Heroes, as they would already be more adept at the fighting and dodging.

I agree with Ayjona on this. The writing does leave a bit to be desired. I'm only up to ladybug's level atm, but the story is also quite predictable so far (which, to some extent, is unavoidable due to Bug Heroes). I hope there are a few big surprises in store later on.
The main thing that bothers me, although it is nitpicking, is the constant incorrect usage of "then" instead of "than".

The music, especially Spider's theme becomes quickly repetitive as the short clip plays over and over. Don't get me wrong, I do like the music, but they're a bit too short.

    Also on the list:
    - spawning right on top of your character is WAY to common. That zone around the char where no bugs can spawn mentioned earlier sounds great.
    - larger objects often obscure the action. Transparency would help out. (although it could be tricky to implement)
    - NPC talk range (chat button is a fantastic idea)
    - map issues many others have already mentioned.
    - buttons lacking retina

Although my post sounds negative, I am highly enjoying the game so far; played it much more today than I had intended to, and am trying to give some constructive feedback/criticism.

EDIT: Map button on the right side of the screen would be handy for the non-pausing transparent map. Perhaps another map that pauses could be available in the menu, or just where the button is now

Thanks everyone... most complaints seem to focus generally around the same things, which we'll try to address asap :) ie better map functionality, enemy spawn proximity, NPC talking, etc

Some of the lvels here are really hard like the garage level 7 or 6 where spider has to go back to her clan. When I get to where the first destination is, suddenly like 10 enemies are spawning in front of me.

Another one is when spider returned to ant and beetle, kitchen level 10. The enemies spawn rate was crazy. In 3 min there were like 20 fleas with guns, 10 armored ants, 5 flea gunner teams 6 elephant snails. I tried to get rid of them but there were just too many.
