@Tikicobra I honestly don't understand what you mean by clunky controls? Bug Heroes has very precise and fluid controls in fact(with all characters). One thing that may help(other than practice/Coliseum to test what skills fit your playing preferences best) is studying the Insectopedia. There is a lot of knowledge there with enemy bugs weaknesses as well as 3D models, and a breif synopsis on them all. It really helped me out a lot as well as the survival guide(see K?!'s sig ). The story is also very well executed as you progress, as well as the scrolls. @Versago Burrow Mines do some pretty heavy damage when you use them right. The low cool down times help a lot too. I use them often and for even more damage, I like to place them on spider webs close to my base for added defense. Howitzer also does some massive damage(though it's not a single skill). @Anyone So I take it GC doesn't save locally? Or is it just for Bug Heroes when you post highscores? I just tried again offline and it wouldn't until I turned my wifi back on...
I think the characters may seem a little weak because they're not powerful enough to take on all enemies on their own, unlike typical dual-stickers. Rather, you must also make use of base defenses and such. Toucharcade has already done that. That's how I learned about the game.
Game Center does not have local high score saving built in, it is up to the dev to recognize if there's no connection, save the score, and post it at a later date. Hence why most games don't have offline saving but a handful do. I would agree with your thoughts on burrow mines as well. You won't get anywhere using them as grenades but instead, you should place them in an area where few bugs go (like to the left of your food stash on kitchen and office) and then hide behind it when you're in trouble. Dissagree on Howitzer though. I loved it at first but I find it nowhere as useful as porta turrets right beyond your base guns range.
Thanks for clarifying on GC. I wish all devs used implemented the save locally. You dont use Howitzer at all? I've always used it as my break in case of emergency skill because it wipes out practically anything coming my way and I need more kills than Assassin bomb and beetles skills can handle.
Yep I rarely use Howitzer. A single porta turret puts out 2400 in damage and you can have two at any time, which is far better than Howitzer. When I need to clean out a lot of bugs I use Assassin Cut or Better Base Guns.
Never really thought of not using it due to it's power/push back, but I do understand what you mean. I'm probably so comfortable using it in Coliseum, it's kind of instilled in my head/strategy with Ant. I've been using Big Bullets more often since the update with upgraded machine guns because of the better DoT and I like the results. What skill(s) would you suggest using other than Howitzer because I dont mind testing out some other skills. Ones I use the least currently are Repulsar Waves, Entrench, and Plasma Cannon with Ant.
I use Life Support, BBG, porta turrets/burrow mines, and plasma cannon. I'll switch in teleporter when need arrises. I used to love Howitzer and Entrench, but they both get overwhelmed at later rounds.
Thanks. I'll throw Plasma Cannon in the mix for a few runs. 60 second cooldown isnt bad nor the small splash.
Good luck. I find plasma cannon to be crazy useful when I have a lot of bugs in a small area. It's also good to stack with Beetle; stun the first few bugs so the ones behind them catch up, and you can do even more damage.
Porta turrets are pretty much useless against medium-heavy armored bugs, which is why I never use them. Howitzer is great when you're fighting multiple clusters of enemies. It's not just defensive, it's offensive. It's one of my favorite Ant abilities, though I don't use it that often because of its long cooldown and more importantly, because Ant is too fragile in tight situations that require its use anyway. I do prefer shockwave because of its wider AOE and lower cooldown.
On the comment about the colors being a bit bland, I have to agree. In a situation where you're playing and there's a lot of ambient light around (for instance on a bus during a sunny day), it's hard to see what's going on, especially when the mode shifts to nighttime. I guess I'm used to a majority of iOS games being very colorful. This game feels like it has the C64 syndrome of a lot of browns and grays. Aside from this observation, I think this is an unbelievably fantastic game. I've been playing it for weeks and haven't really switched to anything else during that time. I really appreciate the speed of content updates, too. Many companies promise content updates, but drag their feet for a long time or don't bother putting them out. I feel the difficulty level is good and this is what keeps me coming back to play more - I often know what error I made in my judgement that caused me to lose and attempt to learn from every game played - this is a sign of a truly well-thought-out game. One quick question for the folks on this thread: I often die when a grub launcher spawns. In the last game, it spawned on top of a pile which included a queen ant and a queen spider and there was no way for me to get rid of that pile to get at the grub launcher. Any suggestions for me?
I was like you for a while, but I would find that there would be a crazy amount of bugs that sit just right beyond my base bugs range. I could grab a few potshots with Spider, or try to tank it with Beetle, but it would never be enough. With porta turrets, I can get the area cleared out. I know porta turrets don't do anything in regards to armored bugs but they are also another line of defense keeping fleas and grubs back. When a grub launcher spawns, I immediately use Earthquake Jump or if that's not available, Superior Assassin. You could use Shield and Assassin Bomb to kill the Queen Ant and Grub Launcher. Or Warrior Gauntlet and Spider.
Thanks. Using plasma a few runs worked out really well mainly due to it's cooldown time. It made me realize that 'yes' I still love Howitzer, however...I was babying Howitzer due to it's long cooldown and not using it enough. I don't feel it is a waste of a skill in the least bit, but I feel a bit more efficiency with the shorter cooldown with Plasma now I can use it in more situations with less guilt. Completely agree with your opinion on Howizter as it is one of my favorite Ant skills as well. For what it's worth, BBG+Porta is one of my favorite combos that I can just setup and let it do it's job while I run around handling biz. I like that they're easy to manage as well because I dont have to switch back to Ant to see how much cooldown time, rather just notice when one of the two turrets are gone...switch back to Ant, replace, and go back to biz. Later levels where Ant isn't used as often, they come in handy without worrying about him dying(not that you have any problems surviving ). Boy I hate the grub launcher ! When it spawns, I immediately switch to Spider for her speed and search the grub out(it's always good to remember it's spawning spots). Once I get to it...if it's alone, you can kill it rather quickly with Spider's normal attacks(2-3 hits on average) or as said...search it out, stun it with Beetles shield, Earthquake, Guantlet, Stampede, Adrenaline, Ant's Teleport, or Spiders Assassin Cut. Once everyone is either cleared out or stunned...Place an Assassin Bomb right under it all(web won't hurt if you have it available for added stun+cripple) and just walk away and enjoy the show. Has anyone ran into a "ghost grub launcher"? Last night I was playing Yard on hard mode and after I killed a Grub Launcher another one spawned and I circled the yard at least three times and it was NOWHERE to be seen and killed my session. I ended up 11th on the leaderboard but I know I would have got further if it hadn't happened. Redemption later!
Yeah, go in with Beetle and activate Warrior Gauntlet while hitting the grub launcher. This pretty much kills the grub launcher, even without switching to spider..
That would be nice. Support Turret smack in the middle with the other 4 surrounding them like they currently are. . . <- Normal Turrets. -. <- Support turret can be placed here only. . . <- Normal Turrets. Sorry for the very basic Diagram but you get the idea.
No godson your not the only one when it comes to "ghost grub launcher" I too have heard the bug are eating your food message. Check my base nothing search around looking for the grub launcher thinking I missed it but just can't find it.hmmm?
