With all respect allow me something. I own this game from day 1, I believe this is one of the best games in the App Store, and along with Battleheart and Legendary Wars, the most popular of the first two months of 2011. But I see in the US iTunes store, about 2500 people have reviewed Battleheart and about 800 Legendary wars. On the other hand, there are only 168 reviews for Bug Heroes:( This is really sad!!! What I guess for this, is the lack of a story line. Many people are being prevented from buying due to the "Dual Stick", or "Tower Defense" approach of the title. To me, honestly, a story line is not needed, but it could be the secret for the sales to explode

The new heroes have been announced (or pulled out of the preview screen). Check out the guide for more info.

I've unlocked three stages. I'm currently on the play room level, and I just want to see more color. I expected the play room to be full of color, but it's very gray, as were the first two levels. I would personally like to see more levels like the tree area from survival mode.

As for the controls, I just don't think they're accurate enough. I've gotten more used to them, but I still find them glitching out on occasion and moving me in the wrong direction.

I just think that the characters are underpowered. The ant seems about right, but the spider and beetle aren't very much fun in my opinion. I upgraded the beetle's weapon all the way to the wrench and he still felt really weak. And the spider suffers from poor hit detection.

I wasn't trying to rant or insult your game, I was just stating my opinion on it. Maybe I was too harsh, but perhaps I'm just not a fan of this type of game.

Play it some more before commenting on the difficulty. Judging by your last post, you haven't even played it for an hour. What game can you master in an hour?

Has never happened to anyone before, care to explain some more?

I got to round 100 and I don't think they're weak. I didn't even buy a single weapon upgrade till round ~40. As others have stated, buy specific abilities for specific situations. Weapons are not a good value.

Then why did you buy a DSS if you haven't liked any others?

@Tiki - I think I speak for a lot of Bug Heroes fans when I say that the more you play, the more you will appreciate & understand the game mechanics.

It seems most players gravitate towards ant in the beginning because it's an "easy" character. But ant is only easy in the sense that it plays and controls similarly to other dual-stick shooters. After spending more time becoming familiar with the other characters - both how they control and their skills - you will realize they are far more powerful than you originally thought.

The fact that each character controls differently especially with regard to their combat mechanics and hit detection is one of the great and unique specialties of Bug Heroes. Recognizing the correct situations to employ each hero and how to most effectively use their combat mechanics is THE key to the game.

I'm glad you're giving the game more time and I'm sure that as you do your enjoyment will continue to increase. The game is deceptively deep for an iOS game - so expect to have to earn success.

Woot, just finished up the long ago mentioned "Scouter Turret." Increases the range of all other turrets with each upgrade, and at level 5 gives extra pointers to food and objects (including coins, slaves, and history scrolls). Will definitely help those having trouble completing coin quests and finding where all the food is ;)

We appreciate the feedback none-the-less ;) As much as I hate to admit it, perhaps you were simply looking for more of an arcade style shooter where you can blow everything on the screen away in one hit, like you find in most typical shooters... we decided to go a different route simple bc we felt those type of games have been done to death already. Yes, Bug Heroes is a different take on the genre and thus might not be for everyone, but we fully understand that... Thanks for giving it a shot anyway!

The other new turrets are all support turrets as well, so it should really open up different ways to play the game now :)

Interesting choice of comparisons, as Battleheart has far less of a storyline than Bug Heroes ;)

Yeah, both those games are definitely great, but they were also most successful thanks to being featured as Apple's game of the week. Battleheart was also made by the same company which has one of the most consistently successful games on the app store of all time, Zombieville USA... so they had quite a fan base to draw from :p And then Legendary Wars also got featured by Gizmodo and Kotaku, which is perhaps the biggest thing that can happen besides a major Apple feature... so, like I said, even though they are both EXCELLENT games and probably deserve all the recognition they got, they definitely both had a LOT of help in getting their numbers up ;)

Mind you, thats not to say Bug Heroes is doing poorly either... the % of people who write a review or rate the game are a TINY fraction of the total amount of downloads you get....

Certainly not. I really like the idea, I just think it feels somewhat clunky. I like dual stick shooters, but I'm sick of the same old "survive for as long as you can" type of game, so I decided to try this game out. I like the concept behind the game, but I'm not really a fan of the setting or characters.

I was waiting around earlier and decided to play the game, and I tried out the beetle some more. I upgraded him quite a bit but I still wasn't a fan of how he feels to control, and I still found myself using the ant. I feel like the dual stick layout isn't a good fit for a brawler character.

You can always select auto aim if you have trouble aiming with the melee weapons... but ultimately we chose the dual stick setup with the melee characters too because it gives you more control. Its a bit harder to learn i'll give you that, but when you do it allows you to strafe side to side and move backwards and attack, which is critical when dodging enemy attacks, especially with Spider... this kind of control just wouldn't be possible with any other scheme (for ex with the typical move stick + single attack button that you see with most hack and slash games). Plus, it keeps it consistent between the ranged and melee characters.

And something to note with Beetle is he will feel weak in many situations, because as with all characters they excel in certain areas, and have shortcomings in others. His strength lies in his ability to tank, and the ability to do low-medium damage to many enemies at once. An upgraded Beetle will still kill lesser enemies like fleas and ants in 2 hits... You can plow through enemies in one hit with Stampede. You can buff your speed and damage via Adrenaline... you can position yourself to knock lesser enemies off of ledges and kill them in one hit... there are certainly options, you just have to figure them out.

Finally, as mentioned before the game is balanced across all 3 characters... its unfair to single Beetle out and call him underpowered, bc the game is designed for you to constantly be switching heroes to deal with the proper situations. Defending and see enemies coming at long range? Switch to Ant. See a big slug or a snail? Switch to Spider. See a horde of fleas? Switch to Beetle... yes they CAN be effective each on their own, but thats not really how the game was designed. Think more along the lines of how a party in an RPG is designed.

Anyway, thats just some insight into why we chose to do some of the things we did ;)

I think ant needs a skill that does a single powerful attack, maybe like snipe or something like that :D.

I thought about that as well, but he does have plasma cannon, which is fairly close.
