I like it how it is right now for hard, I wouldn't limit the money because I think it would start to bring the focus down to a couple abilities that you've had a lot of practice with rather than being able to try the new abilities, like for me I never play anything but hard because I like the challenge but I also like being able to try out new things without having to lower the difficulty.
As many enemies as normal: Sure. Same strength: You mean enemy bugs? Sounds good. Less frequent food spawns: This may work, but it will make players more dependent on Life Support. How about increasing the damage siege bugs do instead? Less money from bugs: Nooo. It'll make the game less fun. Besides, fewer bugs takes care of the issue of gaining too much money.
Reducing the amount of money granted would be lame. I'd rather just have more difficult opponents and be forced to use my upgrades correctly and switch between each character rather than pray I don't get cheaply hit. Just make them hit harder?
The problem with more enemy damage is it greatly reduces the balance of armor... right now damage is very carefully balanced with armor, and increasing enemy damage would totally disrupt that. Besides, Hard already makes it so heroes have less HPs, which is essentially the same thing... don't want to overdo it by making enemies hit harder AND heroes have less health... Mind you in regards to less money, we're not talking like 0 money... it would just be slightly less. Heck, even right now I feel like I can gear everything up pretty quickly in normal mode... and quests would not be affected, so it would just be more important to complete quests.
Hard only... Easy will be getting more money, cheaper revive times, and slightly less enemies We're not touching normal. I just feel like Hard needs to be reworked for a number of reasons... for one, the amount of enemies is too much for performance reasons... Second, the spam is just mind boggling in later rounds on Hard... it really degrades game play into just one giant spam fest, and makes it so the only way to survive effectively is to use Beetle because of his crowd control abilities. Ant becomes inconsequential against massive hordes of later round enemies, and Spider cannot single out larger enemies very well with all the spam going on. So basically, we're trying to find ways to keep Hard competitive without changing the fundamental game play and pace that exists in normal. If I only make food a bit less scarce, I don't think that will really make up for decreasing the amount of enemies... I'm still leaning towards a slight food modifier and slightly less gold to cancel out having less enemies.
Ahhh ok. So Easy will be easier, Hard will be a bit harder (or more balanced) and Normal remains normal. Got it.
That pretty much sounds like an argument for doing what he said One of the problems I have felt with the current difficulty balance is the naming. Easy isn't easy, it's pretty normal. Normal is actually kind of hard, and Hard is just harder than Normal's hard. People get hung up on the names, they want to feel like they're really kicking butt. You shouldn't be experimenting on Hard other than refining your strategy for Hard. If you just want to play around with the game, you should be playing on lower levels of difficulty. Essentially what you've said is that Hard isn't all that hard for you and you'd hate if it actually were hard for you so you'd have to knock the difficulty down a notch to keep playing around. Like I said, that's a pretty good argument for what he suggested
I could see it working ONLY for Coliseum mode if it were ever implemented because those tend to be quicker but still(for me) it would be odd because the devs would have to re-balance everything at a higher spawn rate so both players could get food/loot for surviving and upgrading. Welcoming for sure, but I'd rather see the awesome content we're all looking forward to. @K?! I don't know who's worse with the teasing...you or Foursaken thanks for adding to the pic though...loving it!
700,000+ points on kitchen, almost double the next highest score. Used life support, BBG, Plasma cannon, Teleporter, Burrow Mines and ports turrets (- porta turret does 2400 damage in it's lifetime!). For Spider, it was Snare Web, Ninja Smoke, Assassin Cut, and Iron Hood. Beetle got Earthquake Jump, Repel, Stampede, and Warrior Gauntet. I'll do a full write up sometime soon. I think I could break a million on my next run. Heh, I'm not trying to tease you guys. I release all the info I have except for what FM doesn't want me to.
I don't understand what you're saying. Less enemies causes lower gold income, so what do you mean by canceling out?
Daaaaang... not bad! But only 18 quests? Also nice to see Repel getting some love. Whats your thoughts on this ability? Is it too powerful for its price or does it feel just right? Less enemies in hard = the same amount of enemies in normal. Without some extra handicaps, Hard would just be Normal mode with less HPs, which isn't enough to actually make it Hard imo...
Perhaps you should add hard-mode-only enemies (you could even add them on certain tough waves to get to, making it fun just to encounter them to fill out your encyclopedia). Maybe a mega-tough earwig only for level 18 of hardmode. Or an antlion at level 20 that kills almost everyone foolish enough to take it on. etc. Periodic "bosses" in would really set hard mode apart and make it INSANE. : D
You're right, though I'm still not sure how I feel about reducing money. I'd never be able to fully upgrade my turrets by the end of the game. Although, if you can balance that out with a higher quest rate, that could be interesting. We could still earn as much money, but we'd have to work much harder for it.
Ahh, I didin't realize it also made you have less health. Never really took note of it. I certainly understand what is wrong with my point. On a side note, it's pretty cool as a forum member to be able to talk with the developer of a game like this. On no other forums or sites, I've really been lucky enough to speak with the creators of what has been stealing my time. I'm certainly looking forward to the DLC characters. I'll definitely buy them to continue your support of this game. Awesome job.
Oh wow, now THATS a great idea... would allow you to really earn tons of money IF you have the skill to take on more quests at once, but if not, it'll be much harder to earn the income. LOVE that idea Its also really nice as devs to be able to get such awesome feedback from the people who are actually playing the game! We really appreciate being able to bounce ideas off of people, and the constant feedback you guys have been dishing out
I love that I'm still hooked onto this game. I usually get bored of shooter-style games very quickly. Playing in five minute increments while I study. It's great stress relief.
