Actually on my 16th round with beetle I switched out the smash with berserk granted I was at around 25% HP with some extra cash(I knew I was going to die). I pretty much suicided him by getting the mushroom+adrenaline+gauntlet+berserk+i got most the enemies close to me, used my shield to stun all I could, then went balls out and died from a barrage of bullets and iirc poison bombs. I ended up with just over 20k and it felt pretty damn good! Coliseum is definetly my favorite mode for honing my skills.
I don't want to have to resort to certain strategies (limiting myself really puts me off) to be able to reach higher levels . I like being able to choose any abilities I want and be able to do as well .
Love the new update!, just reached #1 score on Pond(Easy) round 47 using 2 MG, Laser, Magnifier. If anyones interested i can post abilities i bought for each hero.
I understand what your saying and do feel the same way. Regardless...knowledge is power, and asking for help in this thread will eventually get you sort of(if not the same) answers you'd get out of that thread. Personally I read it to understand skills which did/has further helped me get to where I am but all in all like you, I do use what I feel is best for my playing style but with a better understanding.
Congratulations! My highest on pond is 28 (easy). I'd be curious to see your abilities. I pretty much always use porta turret, ant hole, better defense, howitzer for ant (my favorite character); snare web, assassin bomb, assassin cut (sometimes) for spider; and haven't really settled on anything for beetle. And I upgrade everyone's weapons once.
Having knowledge of what abilities does what does certainly come in handy . When I first played endless , i had to mess around . It was fun but painful as well . I'll go on that thread to read for a few tips and tricks . Thanks again guys
Well, Foursaken Media, I've done it. I just spent 2 hours playing a game on Yard (Hard), reaching round 47 or so, and the situation is still completely under control, with both my stash and my bag 100% full. I fully upgraded all my towers and purchased all the items. All I need now is to get Ant and Beetle to lvl20. Looks like Yard needs some tweaking. I'm stopping for now. I took a screenshot, but I reeeaally hope I don't lose my score to a crash this time! Edit: Woo! Submitted Round 76 game on Yard (Hard), 2:25 hours, 34 quests completed. The food drops were reasonable, but I manage to do without it by taking advantage of Beetle's regeneration, life support and the teleport abilities (Spider's new ability rocks). Foursaken: Can you tell us about Berzerk, and how it compares to Colossus and Adrenalin in its damage boost? And speaking of Adrenalin, how much extra damage does that give? I find the Sniper turret still lacking, but not because of the amount of damage it deals, but because it's more or less useless against small bugs, and it's the huge groups of smaller bugs that are the real danger, at least for me. I would suggest increasing Sniper turrets' effectiveness against smaller bugs, perhaps by lowering its damage and increasing its rate of fire, or by giving it a piercing attack (It wouldn't overlap the function of Laser turrets, since it would only pierce the target if it manages to kill it, and the next target would only receive less damage than the main one). After all, Machine Guns are very useful against large bugs as well as small bugs.
i'm not gona lie, i'm pretty pissed off that i had to restart my profile. i mean why couldn't you have just added gamcenter in the first place, so that like a month of playing wouldn't be going to waste>
I was feeling the same way at first, but Foursaken Media feels really bad about messing up the profiles. So much so that they plan on offering free equipment/abilities for each of the heroes in a quick update! So try not to be too hard on them. I have already forgiven them
Yeah, its not like they did it on purpose or anything. And really I don't mind starting over as its such an awesome game!
Yes we are pretty upset that it had to come to creating a new profile :/ At the very least Bug Heroes isn't one of those games that takes days to unlock everything... I just started a new profile and unlocked everything (all levels + turrets + equipment) in about 2 and a half hours. Of course achievements and armor are another story, but at least you don't have to grind for 10s of hours to just unlock the basic things. We're submitting the quickie update tonight which will have the new equipment Including a pair of equippable assassin pistols for Spider @Oxynidus -- good I'm glad you were able to make it that far! We need more feedback during those levels of the game. What do you suggest to be the most fun option? Would you like to see for after round 20... food taper off more quickly, enemies become more durable or more damaging, money become more scarce? As for berzerk, its damage advantage is massive, as its a % bonus (250% to be exact), which means it is proportionally affected by which weapon he has equipped, and stacks on top of abilities like adrenaline and colossus (which are both straight up attack bonuses). Beetles basic attack for ex does 30 damage with a regular stick. Adrenaline gives +15 damage, and colossus gives a passive +10 damage (though its active use gives another +75 damage). As mentioned before, berzerk does 250% damage so even with a basic stick, you'll be doing 75 damage per swing... needless to say if you have a wrench, colossus, activate adrenaline, and then use berzerk... MAN you will be doing some serious damage... even if it is risky. I tend to find that even if its too risky, berzerk is a great defensive ability I can use to squash hordes of siege enemies without much risk
Is there an internal highest round record at the Foursaken Media office, and did Oxynidus just break it?
How long will this game keep me interested? How good are graphics on 2nd gen iPod? Is it in the top 5 dss ever? How are the controls? Will there be a lite/sale soon?
Forget about top 5. There is not a single dual stick shooter which can approximate what Bug Heroes has to offer, action- and variation-wise. And forget about just shooting. Bug Heroes has melee action (surprisingly good melee action at that, where timing and precision plays a big part), tower defense elements, some exploration, questing and tactical decisions, and even a sparse story that manages to be at least reasonably interesting. As for length of interest, if you don't mind replaying, gradually unlocking items and abilities, competing against your own and others' high scores, Bug Heroes offers very good replayability and staying power. Not among the best of iOS games, but certainly among the better. If you want a single, focused, persistent experience, Bug Heroes is not for you, as every sessions lasts for 1-2 hours at the most, unless you are a veritable Oxynidus
^ Agreed. Hmmm. After round 20, damaging enemies become easier to deal with as you level up and equip your heroes, and the most dangerous rounds are the ones with lots of siege enemies. I don't know if this fits with your philosophies, but if you could have grub launchers, caterpillars and maybe queen ants spawn more often in later stages, it would really take a lot of skill to be able to fend them off while taking care of everything else (Maybe centipedes too, but I'm thinking more of things that force you to move away from the base to deal with). The game at that stage becomes more about brute force than strategic thinking, except when you're forced to deal with certain combinations of bugs, so yeah, I'm suggesting you make that happen more often. The most memorable rounds are the ones when I had to jump all around the map to get all the grub launchers and caterpillars before they destroyed my base. That's cool info. I think you should include such details in the insectopedia or something.
Heh, I won't bother answering as I may be a little bias Though in regards to how it plays on an ipod touch 2g, we have been optimizing it for devices as low as the iphone 3g, and have had many itouch 2g players report that it runs well. iJay even plays it on an ipod touch 1g And I just realized Oxynidus that you were talking about Yard... I admit I toned that level down quite a bit to compensate for its 360 degree level layout (where as the other levels you are somewhat barricaded). Looks like I went a little overboard I added a greater chance for grub launchers, queen ants, and caterpillars and tweaked some of the other enemy numbers. Note that this will of course only affect the rounds after 20.
