Yes, not all heroes are equal in usefulness.

I was surprised at the resurgence of Spider users, so I tried a combination of Spider, Stick and Termite, and took back my position as King of the Kitchen. :D

I wanna share some ideas with FM for improvements in usefulness or appeal for the heroes. Yerall welcome to join.

I mentioned before that my main problem is with Ladybug and Hopper. Here's what I base my classification of the heroes: Usefulness of support abilities (ones that don't require the hero to be active after using) and usefulness as an active hero. I'll rate the heroes according to these two. Excelling at either is enough to make em worth using (scoring 9 or more). You generally need to have a balance of these two in the team.

    Ant
    Support: 10/10.
    Active: 7/10
Comment: Superb support abilities but pretty expensive to turn into a formidable active hero.

    Spider
    Support: 9/10
    Active: 10/10
Comment: Great support abilities and a powerful fighter. I just rediscovered her, and managed to dominate two maps on my first try with her and Stick.
    Beetle
    Support: 9/10
    Active: 10/10
Comment: I have nothing more to say.

    Mantis
    Support: 6/10
    Active: ???
Comment: A very complicated hero to use. I haven't used him enough to give him a fair score.

    Stick
    Support: 10/10
    Active: 10/10
Comment: The perfect hero. By perfect, I mean perfect at performing his role. Can be a little hard to use actively, but that's not a flaw.

    Hopper
    Support: 7/10
    Active: 8/10
Comment: Pretty good as an active hero, but not good enough to compensate for having inferior support abilities.

    Fly:
    Support: 6/10
    Active: 9/10
Comment: Rather expensive to turn into a formidable fighter after the nerf, but his ability to make money makes up for that.

    Ladybug
    Support: 6/10
    Active: 7/10
Comment: I'm going to talk about this one more extensively below.

    Worm
    Support: 9/10
    Active: 9/10
    Comment: N/A.

    Termite
    Support: 12/10
    Active: 7/10
Comment: Yeah. No typo. I'm not sure what to suggest here.

So the only two heroes that in my opinion don't offer enough to make the cut are Hopper and Ladybug. Hopper is a pretty powerful fighter early on, but at some point he'll have to take a backseat to other heroes because he won't be able to withstand the heat, and his support abilities won't be useful enough to keep him that useful.

Ladybug doesn't have much to offer in support aside from nuking abilities and Good Luck, which aren't that useful compared to what most other heroes have to offer, but she seems to be more of an action-oriented hero, so her strength should be in her usefulness in battle. Since her support abilities aren't nearly as useful as Spider's, she should be significantly more effective as a fighter. Unfortunately, she isn't even as useful; her armor and her role as a tank become pretty much irrelevant as the game progresses and enemies get stronger, and her usefulness as a supreme dueler diminishes as the number of enemies increases, while Spider's mobility and powerful attacks grant her much better survivability, and allows her to actually reach and kill enemy targets and escape.

I'll do the suggestions part tomorrow. Too tired now. Zzzzzzzzzzzzz.

    Thx for the work.

I like Ladybug from style and animation so i try to find useful areas for her. I must add that i dont reach high stages of the game, so i dont know much from later Bug invasions.

I dont know how you handle flea-gunner. They do heavy damage and you need a fast hero to reach them, or lore them to base (offen not possible). Termites turrets are of course nice to kill them without risk. Ladybug defense skill against shooter come on handy in this situation.

Probably a skilled fast spider gamer will do the same. I find her defintely more usefull than mantis/hopper. Good damage and good armor.

I think the best way is to use teleport/phase shift. Stunning them will pretty much make them useless because of their pathetic hp. I know there are other ways of killing them; I just like stunning best!:D

Alrighty. Assuming FM haven't rolled my eyes at me yet, here are some ideas. I played a few full games with Ladybug and Hopper to make sure I didn't miss anything. The game with Hopper was okay. Got to round 37 and #1 spot on Playroom. Then tried with Ladybug + Worm + Termite. Good Luck + Worm was interesting. Got to round 38 on Playroom but with a significantly fewer quests completed. Then I replaced Ladybug with Spider to prove my point to myself, knowing that Playroom is probably the best map for Ladybug and the worst map for Spider. Voila! Round 57 with 48 quests completed. :D

Of course, I'm just kinda brain-storming here, so don't mind the stupid ideas. :p

    Termite:
    1) Make the turrets more expensive such that they should be used situationally rather than all the time. The current prices are negligible compared to the benefits.

    2) Upgrading the drill should offer some kind of improvement other than a simple damage increase, like maybe construct better turrets, or improve the nail gun at least. Termite is pretty much the only hero whose weapon upgrade doesn't offer anything other than better damage, and right now it's an utter waste of money because it's a bad idea to try and kill anything with the drill except in the first 10 minutes of the game. Maybe give it an armor-break kind of bonus! You are drilling a hole in their armors after all.

    3) Termite should not be able to dish out that much damage without even being active, especially with the current low prices of turrets. Make the turrets weaker when Termite is inactive. Plus, the active use of Termite should be more rewarding. It would be fun if you could drill the turrets to improve em! That way there would also be an incentive to upgrade the drill.

    Hopper:
I'm unsure what FM's idea of what Hopper should be, so I don't wanna suggest crazy ideas that might not be suitable, but I can suggest how to improve some abilities that could use some improving.

    1) Make it so that Miracle Worker would produce higher amounts of foods from larger enemies, so that it would be useful when facing large bugs. That would make it more reliable. Plus, maybe give it a minor passive food-drop increase. I think Hopper should be superior to Termite in food-making.

    2) Block doesn't seem useful to me at all, especially late game, when standing in your position in a few seconds can put you in a really bad situation, especially if Slugs are involved. Its price should be dramatically reduced to be affordable early-game or for some very situational situations. Or just make it awesome somehow.

    3) Self Sacrifice is at the very least unappealing. I understand its purpose, and it's probably useful in a way, but I just never found myself in a position in which I wanted to use it, and don't think many have. Maybe if you make it such that Hopper regenerates his lost HP (or some of it) over time while he's active or something, and make it more expensive in return, or reduce the amount of HP given to his fellow bugs.

    4) Does Inspire have to affect melee heroes only?

These won't actually be enough to make him worth using in a serious game in my opinion, but it would be a start. His combat-related problems that could use fixing are that he isn't mobile enough to avoid attacks like Fly and Spider, his attack range isn't long enough like Beetle to keep him out of harm's way while attacking and he isn't durable enough to withstand the heat.

    Ladybug:

    1) Make Parry's stun have an AOE affect, because it becomes less useful as the number of bugs increase and it often goes to waste on wrong targets such as fleas.

    2) Advantage and Riposte should completely nullify damage, because Ladybug can't afford taking even 25% of large blows, especially late-game. She doesn't have the kind of regeneration Beetle has.

    3) Make Piercing's damage and slow effect stack, like Explosive Ammo. That would be quite interesting.

    4) Make Lunge have a bleed effect too! This ability is not rewarding enough considering how difficult it is to use effectively.

    5) Generally make her much more offense-oriented. All her defensive stats and abilities don't do much good if she can't kill or at least disable her enemies fast enough.

    6) Shorten all of her cooldowns (along with reduction in effectiveness as necessary). I love the idea of Ladybug being a hero of quick abilities, requiring constant microing of abilities.

    7) Add a powerful knockback increase effect to Good Luck.

    8) Give her an equippable weapon: An actual fence! :D

I think that Spider's Wolf Spider Pistols give another aspect of her character as a far ranged assassin, but it lacks the power and the speed to bring the big bugs down. Perhaps adding an armor piercing ability or adding the Stun or Assassinate abilities would make it more useful?

Termite's Nail Gun should shoot faster or you should remove the walking slower effect. He's already slow and making him slower makes him an easy prey for scorpions.

I wish I had gotten this when it first came out. I picked it up this past weekend and I haven't put it down since. This is an AMAZING game and I am surely going to buy the new DLC that's due out soon. I've already picked up all the current DLC for the new characters and maps with the exception of the alternate characters DLC. I love this game, it's amazing. Thank you FM for creating this, I hope you put this much effort into your future endeavors because if you do I'll buy any game you guys put out that is of this caliber.

Now that that's out of the way I do have a question for you. I've read damn near through this whole post and the few pages I've skipped have probably answered this question but is there a guide some where that lists builds, etc. ? I've been to the wiki but it's empty and while it does give a build order and theory I'm sure there are other builds out there.

I've been primarily playing as Worm as my main who's spec is offensive in the following order of purchasable skills : Explosive, then weapon upgrade, grenade, then slime grenade then go for max weapon upgrade. I'll upgrade the base as needed, etc. All the while upgrading Boom Shot then Take Aim(once these two are maxed or almost maxed I start upping Regenerate and lastly Demolitions). I'll pick up the tremor bomb as well to keep mobs at bay all the while taking them down with Explosive Shot and Grenades. What are your views on Auto Cannon and Nuke? Nuke takes too long to detonate imo. Any info on Worm would be greatly appreciated as he is one of my favorite characters.

My Second favorite is Fly! OMFG he's so fast but his starting DPS is kind of weak, the first few levels of the game he's pretty week until imo you upgrade his main weapon, pick up Gnat Banditos and pick up Drunkard and Scoundrel. The question is how do I build him to use him the best way that I can offensively? I'd love for him to be my main character but for now Worm is King of the Ant Hill.

Overall thanks to all the contributors of this thread and especially FM for giving us such an amazing game. I'm just looking to become better at it.

    :D

The thing is that there are so many ways to play this game that it's very hard to just follow fixed formulas to play well. I've been playing the game since it came out and I'm still experimenting with different builds and combinations. But generally I just pick heroes based on how I want to play and save my money and buy whatever I need to complete quests and survive as I play.

For Worm, Nuke is a really good ability. Just deploy it whenever you sense a storm coming. It can really be a game changer. Autocannon is a good ability too, but I think it still has that issue where it loses momentum whenever a pop-up occur. I personally prefer to upgrade Aim first, then Boom Shot, Demolition and Regeneration, but you do whatever fits your style.

As for Fly, you pretty much have the right idea about how to use him. In addition though, try to make use of Pick-Pocket and Mushrooms. You could get Elephant Snail Rifle to greatly increase your view, and shoot armored bugs every once in a while. Use other heroes abilities in junction with his Pick-Pocket and Theft to make money like Nuke, Poison Ward and Termite's Turrets.

I feel like for bug heroes to be multiplayer, an entirely new game will have to be made. Theres a lot that would have to be changed and balanced, and it would probably be easier to have a fresh start. That being said I think FM should consider making it as it is one of the most requested features, and would warrant a purchase from everyone in the bug heroes community

Something weird happened to my brother's bug heroes game. He was playing restaurant with fly as his active hero when he got stuck in between the table edge and the plate with pie on it.

First to cross the 70 barrier on Hard. Round 73 in Kitchen. :D

By the way, it seems like there's a problem with Magnifier + range increase of Satellite, Scouter Turret and Better Base Defenses. It doesn't do damage beyond its normal range.

    Edit: 2nd.

I don't really like Kitchen because of that narrow room, but there's a lot of competition going on there, and I must persist. :D I'm not sure what my favorite would be. I like Pond and Restaurant, even though they can be quite frustrating.

And goodness, Worm's Autocannon is ridiculously unusable. I don't know why it hasn't been fixed yet.

Hahaha! really? I honestly don't know exactly why I like it :D

I like Restaurant too, but those Hungry Bugs and Devourers get annoying :p

Living Room is fun, but I haven't really played much of it...

Same here. It's so annoying when a couple scorpions trap you there and in a few seconds your hp bar is empty.
