I tend to have a hero specialized in massive AOE to take care of the machine gunners and other medium-small bugs. Stick's Earthquake, Worm's Nuke, Beetle's Shockwave...etc.

Okay, I concede that I suck at this game, very much so - but I'd like to bag a few achievements before I give up :) In particular the ones for reaching a certain level etc (so far my record is 25) also the ones for getting all of the characters in my party with max'd out stats... Thank you both so much for the advice on the previous page but I really seem to be struggling with that.

With that in mind, which level(s) do you recommend, and what setup, what turrets and the like? fwiw I only have the pack with fly in right now, but if I need another character that's cool too, great game, thanks!

That's interesting. I never really think of Money Shot and Quick Draw as competing skills. Both fill a different niche. Queen/Giant Spider/Centipede/Caterpillar/Grub Launcher? Money Shot! Snails/Armored Ants/Hungry Bugs? Quick Draw!

I'm a compulsive skill juggler, so I don't really think of Fly has having 4 skills, I think of him having 4 cooldowns. Well, actually, 3 cooldowns, because I never take scoundrel off for any reason, ever. I'm constantly micro-managing the cooldowns and juggling whichever skills best fit the situation. Quick Shot easily earns a place in the rotation (it's mandatory against multiple armored targets), but it doesn't take the place of anything else, it just earns a place next to everything else.

Thanks for confirming this, Lectro and Tha-sama. I've always half wondered whether this was just operator error on my part, so it's nice to know that it's not just me. It's hardly a game-breaking glitch, but it does force you to adapt your strategies ever so subtly.

That's not it. Even if I'm not touching the fire button, if my movement stick is not at neutral, my skills won't trigger.

I've gotten probably 90% of my achievements on Yard. I know a lot of people dislike/struggle with that map (back before Restaurant and Attic got added to the mix, it was sometimes mentioned among the harder maps), but I think it's fantastic. The one problem is that it's large, so either Spider or Fly with maxed speed is absolutely mandatory. Outside of that, though, it has fewer siege bugs (and I die from running out of food far more often than I die from running out of heroes), it has huge areas of room to maneuver with no obstacles or dead ends, and it has all those captive bugs (especially important if you're doing the turret challenges, as your base guns will be weak). Back when there were only 3 heroes, I found that Ant practically dominated that map because of the huge open sight lines involved.

For my advice, I'd use Fly/Beetle/Ant. Your first purchase should be Barter, and after you fill your food stash (and maybe upgrade it twice), make sure you're activating Barter as soon as you have 6 bars of food, because the extra income is invaluable. After that, save up for Spinning Shot and Scoundrel (in that order). Spinning Shot is useful for clearing masses, and if you run right next to a big bug, it's also good for taking them out, too (especially with Scoundrel). Also, get Squash 'Em and use it to assassinate any Queens that spawn. Max Fly's speed, Beetle's armor, and Ant's Lucky Shot first. Also, use Fly as your main as much as possible so you can get some points into Thief, too. Turret-wise, it's hard to go wrong with either Zappers or MG turrets. I believe the Food Cultivator turret comes with the Fly/Ladybug pack- if so, get one of those, too. Other than that, it's mostly just a matter of using the right bug and right skill for each job. Good luck!

Yeah, they're not exactly competing skills. They only compete over Fly's last ability slot, and I do rotate between it and Money Shot on occasion. However, until spinning shot is nerfed, it will remain my main ability for taking out heavy targets (and hence my reduced need for Money Shot).

Fantastic advice, thank you so much! The Food Cultivator turret sounds immense as well, will get one of those, and if I need to purchase another pack then so be it I guess :)

    Thanks again

Hmm... I think you could just log in on your device with your relative's account and just buy the IAP pack using his/her account (with their permission, of course :p)

How do high scores work? Is it supposed to be one for each category for each user - or each device that user has? I play this game on both my ipod touch and ipad (depending on where I am), and I have found I have two high scores in the sink arena on hard - Qwerty at 64 and 50/49. Don't know why it shows me at 50 on one device and 49 on the other (hm, the guy at 49 when I am 50 has the same score, so it is juggling which one gets listed first - makes sense).

For Ant on the sink arena, what skills do you choose to get higher score? I find I get further when I choose Lucky shot first or alternate between that and speed. The porta-turrets are my first purchase, then shoulder turret (helps with all the little buggers or else you get overwhelmed). After that I try either better base guns or upping to machine gun - the better base guns seem to help more, as they really kick in by the time I am facing the small scorpions. Then I start saving my money and choosing what I need based on what comes at me first - if I get cornered by machine gunners, I will purchase teleport and perhaps ant hole for quick stun/kill then escape if another comes before my teleport charges back up. Plasma cannon comes in handy when cornered by a scorpion or bumblebee. Porta-turrets make it so the queen ants are toast when you can place one near her then get out of the way while it takes her and her minions down. Howitzer I've used on the tree stump arena and sink on easy, but not on sink on hard (for the time I have been able to last, it takes too long to save up for).

If you dont have any other character faster than Ant, i would put in some points in speed to explore faster. If not, put 2 in speed, then 1 in lucky shot, then put 2 in speed, then 1 in lucky shot. Then put the rest in either how you want.

I think the high score is different for each device or each time you download the app and put in same username. For example, deleting game and reinstalling it will make it think you are still entirely new even though you would put in the same username.

Wow, now I can see why people like Teleport. It helps me check the long passage in the sink arena before I go down it, and when I am near the end of it and get surrounded, it will actually let me teleport to the left side of the sink. I still got toasted, but not by those that trapped me on the right side of the sink. Now up to 45 on the High score chart, but only level 10... Why would that be? I am assuming the determination of what you face each level is partially random - is that why my prior high scores were level 11 and this one was 10?

Do you get 100 points x whatever level number you've just finished? Someone else had mentioned getting 2300 points for finishing level 23.

Hm, this time it had taken me longer to kill the queen ant because I did not have my porta-turret exactly where I should have put it (I tried to put it up after I got surrounded and couldn't quite get it where I wanted). So more time for her to spawn critters, and more points in that level for what was killed perhaps.

I love Ant Hole more for instant escape back to the base. Teleport is great but Stickbug's Phase Shift is better.

Yeah, i would use termite to put in a turret, but better figure out how to kill the Queen Ant asap because she acts like a powerup for the ant troop.

Amushroom turret usually do the trick...

When playing the Sink Arena, if you put a turret near her, you can take her out easily, while you get out of the immediate vincinity - but the last one I was too far away when my porta turret recharged and too many critters were in the way so I put it where I could, but it must not have been in a direct line with her.

How is Stickbug's Phase Shift better? Just curious...

What teleport ability do you guys use?

Phase shift: 30 second - Stuns and damages.

Ninja Smoke: 15 second - Time slow down.

Teleporter: 20 second - Stun + large area.

Hop: 10 second - Knockback (can be blocked by objects)

Objectively, it seems teleporter wins. I normally buy all teleporting abilities I can, but what would you choose?

I would definitely choose Teleporter over the others, it's cheaper then Phase Shift and more effective, IMO.
