Speaking of lasers? Are they worth it? I typically only use Snipers and Zappers now. I never really felt the need for lasers. And how about Fly's Elephant Snail Rifle? Is that worth it? I wanna try it out but I never do because I could use the $1500 for other things. I'm trying to make use of all the stuff I don't use.
Lazers are extremely useful, especially in narrow maps. It's second only to Zapper. My suggestion, use in place of Snipers. Elephant Snail Rifle: Avoid
Yep, lazers are brilliant! Very helpful on playroom as they have a useful knack of blitzing grub launchers! ES Rifle has always seemed poop to me. Have tried and failed to put any dents into bigger enemies using it on several occassions.
Yeah, you'd think with a weapon that's so expensive, heavy, slow, difficult to aim and immobilizing, you'd get some serious firepower to compensate, but it doesn't even do as much damage as a fully upgraded Fire Staff (without Focus). And Fly has some of the best abilities that aren't at all penalizing like the rifle, so unless it does shockingly high damage, I doubt it'll be worth equipping.
yeah Stickbug is pretty fun. After giving up on ladybug, I'm starting to pick up on Stickbug. He's actually pretty fun once you get the Wind and Fire Staff. Wind for speed to get around the map and Fire for damage. But he's kinda slow when it comes to dishing out massive damage though.
Plus, Wind Staff + Blast does insane knockback, sending centipedes away from your stash. What kind of massive damage you mean? His attacks with Fire Staff are probably the most powerful in the game if you upgrade him, and if you keep swapping between Fire Staff and another staff you can increase your rate of fire, allowing him to do crazy damage to single targets. The only problem is his ability to deal with small bugs; Earth Staff is good for keeping them away from you, but not killing them.
Ah? I didnt know swapping staffs can do that. That's a neat trick to keep in the mind! Oh, I was talking about the rate of firing. When dealing with a horde of smaller bugs after round 20, his firing rate of his Fire/Wind staff felt slow to me.
Yeah I figured. He's not meant for fighting the little ones, but if you must, you can keep swapping between Earth Staff and something else.
I'll often go MG/MG/Zapper/Lookout or MG/Zapper/Zapper/Lookout on Yard. The 360 degree nature of the map means you're getting a *MUCH* larger boost to your turret footprint than you would on a more linear map like Playroom or Kitchen.
I don't go MG anymore. Zapper does decent AOE + decent chance for stuns. Plus, stuns allow Fly to do more damage with Scoundrel. In 360 maps, I may possibly go for 4 zappers, but the 3 zappers + scouter seems like an intriguing idea. Anyway, I no longer believe in cookie-cutter turret formulas. I think Foursaken Media has succeeded in giving most turrets a good use (Exceptions IMO are Firecrackers and Snipers). I tend to go for 1 mushroom (Great boost for Fly's money making, and generally useful for completing quests and relieving tight situations), 1 or more Zappers to keep the little ones from harassing me, especially if I don't have Beetle, and depending on my heroes, I may pick Food Cultivator if I don't have Termite, Forcefield if I don't have Stick (Fortify + Earthquake, quite the life-savers), Lasers in narrowish maps or maps where enemies tend to line up like in Playroom, and occasionally Scouter turrets in specific turret setups. I just broke 100 on every map on Hard. Kitchen: Round 115. Heroes: Fly, Termite and Ant. Office: Round 108. Heroes: Fly, Beetle and Stick. Playroom: Round 130. Heroes: Fly, Beetle and Stick. Yard: Round 111. Heroes: Fly, Beetle and Stick. Pond: Round 107. Heroes: Fly, Termite and Worm. Garden: Round 112. Heroes: Fly, Ant and Stick. Restaurant: Round 107. Heroes: Fly, Beetle and Termite. Attic: Round 115. Heroes: Fly, Beetle and Termite. As you can see, I've grown to be dependent on Fly, because of the necessity of the money boost, and because of his amazing abilities, and because he doesn't get caught in slime. Beetle is the only true tank in the game, and is a great for handling the little ones, and I also need him for his game-changing abilities: Earthquake, Shockwave, Adrenalin and Warrior Gauntlet. Stick has two amazing abilities: Fortify, and Earthquake. Everytime a Grub Launcher shows up, or when I'm unable to stop some butterfly, I use Fortify while running around hunting for them. Earthquake is an incredible ability for killing smaller bugs like grubs, fleas, and sometimes maggots and flea gunners if you get a Focus or if they're hurt by some AOE. The rest of his abilities are great luxuries. Ant is mostly used for his teleportation and life support, and the occasional Howitzer. Worm is a great hero, but his squishiness makes it a huge risk to have him out, so I mostly use him as a support hero, though unfortunately, he's not the best support hero either. I used him in Pond because he does a quick job of taking down dragonflies. Termite is great all around. His Food Cultivator is one of the best abilities in the game, and his turrets are quite formidable. I like to place turrets in areas where boss-bugs spawn, like grub launchers and queens. The only heroes I've been leaving out are Spider, Ladybug and Hopper. Spider is great, but I just prefer Stick because he's better as a support hero, and combined with Fly's speed and nukes, Spider is pretty much rendered obsolete in my playstyle. Grasshopper does not provide me with any unique abilities I need to survive in later rounds on any map. If you want food, go for Termite. He doesn't seem to be made to be a support hero, and his attacks are one of the least useful ones (though extremely fun). I just need the unique equivalent of Earthquake, Earthquake Jump, Fortify, Howitzer, Shockwave...etc, so I could actually do something when I'm being overrun. Same goes fo Ladybug. She has some nice abilities, but she sucks in combat (IMO), and doesn't offer any game-changing abilities. Oh hay, I just discovered that the rescue 10 prisoners quest auto-completes when the time is over.
It seems the vote count to unlock Praying Mantis is 250,000, half way there... don't forget to keep voting. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Foursaken-Media/330872832397?sk=app_4949752878
Does this game sync well Game Center achievements earned offline? I'll take a very long international flight in a couple of weeks, was hoping to spend some hours playing it, but if I loose all achievements after that I'll wait until I'm back online.
Mind if I, basically, just copy this whole post to the wiki (and possibly split it up)? Lots and lots and some more lots of good advice in it Also, I am happy to read you anti-cookie-cutter-analysis. One of the *very* few weak points of Bug Heroes seemed to be that there was little choice between turrets, if survival was a priority Your experimentation points to far greater diversity than I'd previously had believed. Bug Heroes must be very unusual in that it keeps growing even without content updates, just because we keep discovering new tactics and strategies, months after release
Knock yourself out. You don't have to credit it to me or quote me word-for-word, since there are lots of ramblings in there, and talking about myself.
just thought of a nice combo: beetle with wrench, colossus, adrenaline, berzerk, and shockwaves, inside a damage ward and a protection ward, with good luck activated. plus a max mushroom. ... anyway, fly+stick+termite sure is a powerful combo. I haven't had much time to play Bug Heroes since the IAP update, (i.e I think I only unlocked earthquake in this last game), but I decided to try that combo, on kitchen hard. well, despite playing a really poor game, I still rolled to 4th on the leaderboards, round 46 190K+ points. to elaborate on "really poor game": when I died I had the following turrets: level 3 zapper, level 0 MG, and level 4 for mushroom. nothing in the fourth slot, however I used bug bombs in that slot. I had not upgraded a single main weapon, nor bought gnat banditos, nor barely used any of stick's staffs. I spent a ton of money (must have been thousands and thousands of $) on termite turrets. I also used gamble a few times, and several bug bomb turrets (they really helped carry me. haha @K?!). so over all a poorly played game, in yet I still easily got 4th with fly+stick+termite.
Ha. That's sure an expensive way to wipe out the map. You know, I'm not so sure anymore that Shockwave is affected by mushrooms, weapon upgrades and other damage buffs, but I do know it's affected by Adrenalin and Colossus. Yeah, that's a game with Termite alright. Termite needs tweaking, for a reason that hasn't been mentioned yet: He's rather boring. He needs more things to do other than placing turrets. Drilling turrets to add firepower sounds fun, as silly as that may sound. Making him a better fighter sounds good. The drill needs some passive attribute, like maybe do more damage the closer you are to the target. Upgrading the drill should increase its range or something... just a few brainstormed thoughts.
Hey I've never used Shockwaves for Beetle. Should I start using them? I normally just Upgrade Beetle's main weapon to Wrench, and equip Shield, Warrior Gaunlet, Collosus and Earthquake jump. Also, is it worth upgrading Fly's main weapon to max? Also, do you normally upgrade turrets first, then buy abilities, or how do you spend your money?
Shockwave is one of the best abilities, because of it's massive AOE. Not just that, it's also affected by Adrenalin, allowing you to push back everything in its path. Activate Colossus as well, and you can destroy everything in your path. It's one of the most devastating combinations, but the drawback is that you'd be activating multiple long cooldown abilities. Absolutely. One of the first things I upgrade, actually, and then add Gnat Banditos. How else are you gonna make money with him? It depends. The way I see it is that you should either prioritize upgrading your turrets, or build a mushroom turret and focus on your heroes and abilities. The former is a defensive way of playing, which was the dominant method in the past, but now with the introduction of Mushroom turrets, you can focus on your heroes. Since I use Fly to make money, I always go with the latter method.
Sweet. I'll start using it then. OK, cool. I'm always torn between spending money on my turrets, or using it towards my heroes and their abilities. Thanks a lot for the tips!
