Come on guys, this isn't something that should be argued over I mean, I definitely agree that for some people, competing can actually be part of the fun of a game. This is why lots of competitive multi player games exist... some people just like to compete... I must admit (depending on the game), competition can certainly be part of the fun for me personally. This goes way beyond video games mind you. Sports is a prime example of an activity that is one part fun, just bc its fun -- but also part fun because of the competition (heck, when I play basketball I don't care if I win or lose, but for me it is still fun to play in a fair competition). Anyway, just fyi we actually tossed around the idea of having a default zoom further out for iPad before we released the update, but for a number of reasons we decided against it... For one, balance (ranged vs melee balance, equipment usage, etc), 2, technical limitations... for this game the camera really was not designed to be zoomed way out during the isometric view angle -- goggles is probably even stretching it to the limits as it is right now. 3 we would need to create a whole new set of leaderboards (the problem is that the # of leaderboards a game can have is limited by gamecenter, meaning we can't just make as many as we want), and 4, while you could argue that the extra view distance would be "more fun", I could make the argument that being able to see the characters larger and better on the iPad screen (currently) is a positive in its own right. Anyway, please, lets not argue Maybe this good news will bring the thread back on topic... a few minutes ago the update moved to "In Review"!!!
I already answered that. For 99% of players, the purpose of leaderboards is to track their scores and to see how they compare to (not compete with) other players. You are always going to have a few players who are egotistical about being high on the boards and who really care about whether some other player has some advantage or disadvantage relative to them. But those are always going to be a very, very small fraction of players, especially in a popular game. That's just not the purpose---if it were only for the people at the very top of the leaderboards, then it wouldn't be worth even including.
F yeah! I was praying for an impossible/possible weekend release (well not really praying) But was hoping I wouldn't have to wait till after the weekend. Hopefully a few hours till it comes out. Odd that it seems the good games go into review on the weekends.
I totally understand where you are coming from with these points. But if say, Gameloft decided to release StarFront collision for the iPad, it would probably be zoomed out all the way, despite giving the iPad players significant advantages. As far as balance on melee vs range is concerned, why would it be imbalanced? I don't know how far the Ant's guns can travel but couldn't you simply limit its range down in the first place? I don't see if it would be such a big deal for a larger field of view as far as character balance is concerned. Anyway... I would pay $1.99 for the zoom out option if I was given the choice. Just saying Even if it means to be put myself outside of the leaderboards. Even a Fog of War kind of view would have made the game a lot more interesting on the big screen.
You know, we could also add cheat codes to make the game more fun. Better yet, allow us to modify all the numbers in the game so we could enjoy some crazy fun, and allow us to customize their looks with absolutely no limitation (I've always wanted a pink Beetle). Also, why not let us play with the cat or the robot and kick some serious insect ass. Yeah, I'm up for some wacky, wacky fun.
Or how 'bout an incredibly powerful platypus that can destroy everything in it's path... But I actually, reallly like your idea for cheat codes. As long as a message saying "enabling cheat codes will remove your ability to post to the leaderboards or earn achievements", and we get a screen where we can enable or disable cheats we've entered, I think it's great.
First Idea besides customizing characters, CarryAnt. Now what this would do is let you carry ant on another characters back and like the shoulder turret for ant shoot at things, but also would allow you to use his abilities without having to swap to him.
I was being kinda sarcastic, but anyway, two questions: Q: Does Fors4ken Media have to give Apple the green light to publish the app once it's out of review? Q: Does it being in review mean that it could be out any minute now?
You know, I think the reason Bug Heroes stays so long in review is because the dudes at Apple get carried away testing the game and lose track of time.
Hopefully one stops for a breathe and reads these forums!! Stop bullguarding the fun!!! =D I can't wait to see a red ballon over my apps icon. Historically it's a one week process? Of course I'm on the outside not knowing what the process curtails, but is a week the norm? It's accepted? Space miner is my personal all time favorite on this device. That engine was so fluid, everything about that game was pure polish. Space miner m-printed itself in my brain, I had a lot of fun with that game. Mario esque but for IOS.
