Something with the scoring system is wrong somewhere... Look at the leaderboards for the second level on easy and you'll understand: I got a score of 167722532 on round 15! But it was obviously a bug, because that is a ridiculousley high score and the score didn't change during the game even though it should have.
Bought the game yesterday and played for about 3 hours, here are my impressions: Good: First let me say that the game is GREAT...if nothing else, it is pure fun. The closest thing I would compare it to is the Solomon's Boneyard/Keep series as it is essentially a survival game with some mild tower defense elements and VERY MINOR RPG elements. The concept of the game's individual components are not entirely unique but the way it is all put together is FIRST RATE and overall it comes across as a very unique package. The two modes, Adventure and Coliseum are both different enough to keep you coming back to this game. The map sizes are very well balanced as well and the different characters really do add a nice element to the game that makes it stand out from other survival games. The music and sound effects are great as are the controls. BAD: My negative comments are more intended to be constructive criticism as the game as it stands right now would keep me playing for a while. With that said, I would like to see this game improved and with a few tweaks I think it could easily be the game of the year. -Add online multiplayer -The graphics are decent, I have an iPhone4 and would consider the graphics to be BORDER LINE retina. The text for one thing is NOT retina quality (text is not crisp at all). I understand wanting to be able to have many devices play this but I would gladly pay extra for an HD version that really takes advantage of the latest devices. -More depth: I guess the recent release of Dungeon Defenders has spoiled me with the unbelievable depth and sheer amount of content. In the case of Bug Heroes, more RPG elements in the form of items and equipment upgrades would be great. Also, more levels would be excellent and I would pay for them as well. -Frame rate suffers at times Despite my constructive criticism, I really like this game and look forward to playing it more. One question though, each time you start a new game, do you start 100% fresh or are their any elements that carry over as you continue to play?
Online multiplayer takes thousands of dollars and man hours to implement. Did you ever wonder why so few indie games support it, and those that do take forever to come out? Nothing bugs me more than people acting like devs can just check a box and add multiplayer. Bug Heroes has vastly more depth than Dungeon Defenders. There is much more strategery and there is more stuff to buy. Everything has it's own incredibly useful purpose. Turn down the graphics settings, kill backgrounded apps, ect. Finally, stuff you unlock is unlocked forever, but you have to purchase it if you start a new game. Ranks found in the achievements menu and visual upgrades to your character (i.e. more armor, but no tangible effect on gameplay) carry over as well.
The beauty of Bug Heroes is it was designed for both quick or long playtimes. Sit down and play a round or 2 for 4 minutes, or play an entire game for over an hour... Also the modes cater to different types of gamers as well. Coliseum mode is quicker paced, and games generally last from 10-25 minutes depending on your skill. Finally, for quicker, more intense gameplay you can always choose hard If you dare... And again, I want to apologize to anyone experience any issues. We're submitting the update tomorrow which will fix almost all crashes you are experiencing... we've been working around the clock to get as many things fixed as we can. @ ps49556n -- Thanks for the feedback! We definitely appreciate it However, imo depth is not defined by how much stuff is in a game really... For example I think in Bug Heroes with all the different enemy attributes, combined with the different Heroes (with different roles), there is a lot of depth in the actual combat. Then how you decide to manage your defenses, your food, how to spend your money, when to accept side quests, etc offers a lot. In fact, in order to get the real high scores in BH you really have to start figuring out some of the nuances in the game (like enemy ranges, attack patterns, which hero to use when, etc). Anyway, thanks again and glad you are enjoying the game so far
Can anyone tell me if this game would be too frustrating for a precocious 7 year old? It looks to me like he would love it but it's a little hard to tell how difficult it is from the videos. Thanks.
I'll be the only one but it didn't really captivate me. I've kept it on my idevice though so will give it another go.
There is a somewhat steep learning curve at first, and the game can get very difficult quickly if you don't know what your doing. A large part of BH is management and such, so he might not be strong enough in those areas to excel at BH. Then again, I know a seven year old who plays Starcraft 2, so what do I know;p
Thanks, that's exactly the kind of info I was looking for. I've actually tried Starcraft with him and the resource management is not his thing quite yet. I might get it for myself anyway and let him try it out. On the fence with this one.
I think the tutorial makes it pretty easy to learn and get into, but there are indeed quite a few game play elements going on that could make it a bit difficult for a younger child to get into. Then again there is the Coliseum mode which is just pretty basic bug killing (no base or food management, just straight up killing bugs, earning money, and upgrading your hero) Either way we appreciate the feedback! Any specific reason why you didn't enjoy it, or is it just generally not your thing?
I ended up buying the game (hoping for a Universal update). I just started on Normal and played about 5 minutes worth. I pressed Exit and it said my progress would be saved. Then when I went back to play, my progress was gone How does the saving work exactly?
It just saves exactly as you left off... did you make sure to press the green Continue button to resume your game? At the very least we have fail-safes so that even in the event of a crash or something gone wrong, it should start you at the beginning of the last wave you completed...
He did not. His request was simply that: a request for multiplayer, without any hidden implications or assumptions on the difficulty of his request. How would you have wanted him to phrase it? A long ramble on how hard it is, the shame he feels over requesting it, an admission of undeniable guilt, a verbal approach on bended knees, a long process of linguistic self-flagellation? I think most of us are well aware of just how hard it would be to add. But we will still request it, as this is a fantastic game, and online multiplayer is probably on the top of MANY wish lists for Bug Heroes. If people post "Add online multiplayer", perhaps the devs will have enough information to weight the risk versus the rewards, and decide whether it is a viable project or not. And if they do decide to add it, the thousands of dollars and man hours not withstanding, there are probably quite a lot of us who would gladly spend money on it (either in the form of a sequel, a stand-alone title, or DLC), as online multiplayer is right up there with retina display support at the top of the most frequent iOS game feature requests list.
Sheer numbers! Just finished a game (normal mode) made it to level 17 ( number #10 on the leaderboards) subject to change no doubt. After level 10 the bugs really start to overwhelm you. I really enjoy the game.
Surprisingly deep game. Spent around 3 hours playing mostly in Adventure mode. Reminds me world of warcraft in a way, where you have your tank and DPS. WoW also has healer class and I think this game could benefit form it. On normal setting it's very challening even once you got the hang of it. In most games normal means a bit of challenge but mostly fun. In this case it's lots of challege and for the most part "fun" never comes becase you die before you can accumilate enough abilities. Idk whether it's 3GS or what, but graphically game looks a bit on rough side. Could use some polish. The computer table level in particular is very dark on the right side and I avoid it at all cost. If you get quest to go there it's a fail, because you can't see bugs or yourself. The cooldown bars are hard to see, color is near-edentical to frame. Red/green/yellow bars would be much better. Also, having health bar above bug you're attacking would help. In some cases it's not clear whether you want to use ultimate ability to stun bug with high hp eating your pile, or it's near-dead and you can just finish it off. In short, great game but needs lots of polish to bring it to competitve level as opposed to just your regular point and shoot game.
A healer would destroy the balance of the game and make it too easy. The computer table is glass. Do you have decent brightness on? It takes a bit to get used to it, but once you do it's no big deal. For health bars above bugs, this was disscussed in the beta and decided not to be added. Don't remember why, probably because it would make the game too cluttered. I don't understand what you mean about thee cooldown bars, could you please explain that some more? Ayjona, I'll think of some smart response to that... later.
