Well, I will post as long as people want to see stuff But I feel bad because actual game shots and an official game play trailer are taking longer then expected (not because the game development is slowing down mind you, just because we really want to wow people when we first show it off and are not going to release something just for the sake of releasing it, if that makes sense). But a quick update on progress -- everything is going great -- better then expected in fact! We are finally starting to put the game completely together and iron everything out before going into beta in the next 3 weeks or so, and I must say... it plays like something totally new and unique! There is a lot of strategy in how you want to manage your base turrets vs your heroes -- you can truly play how you want . Perhaps you want to spend all your money on your turrets and play a more defensive game. Perhaps you want to focus on just one hero, leveling him up and making him really hoss. Or perhaps you like to even it all out between everything and play a well rounded game. I'm excited if you cant tell Beetle, the tank of the game with high HPs and armor, the perfect choice for wading into masses of smaller bugs or hordes of ranged fire, where the other Heroes may find themselves quickly overwhelmed and killed. While nowhere near as damaging as the Spider assassin Hero, his strength lies mainly in his ability to hit multiple enemies at once, and the capability to knock enemies off of ledges and into walls for extra damage. Most of his abilities and equipment focus on stunning enemies and improved survivability. Armor Ant -- highly armored elite ant fighter, very resistant to all ranged firepower. He has a long range and can knock lighter heroes back with his hard hitting swings. He can also temporarily block all damage with his shield. On the flip side he is slow, and his attacks are telegraphed -- you are best off using Spider to quickly weave in and out, slicing them up in short order. Queen Ant (she is bigger then she looks in this shot) -- always guarded by 2 armor ants, she can spawn different kinds of ants and will increase the HPs and damage of all ants while she is alive (there are ant warriors, army ants, and armor ants). She will stay far out of sight and try to hide on the edges of the map, so you will have to actively search her out to prevent the onslaught of super powered ants
Those units look amazing! When the Beta is out and you need a few extra hands, let me know! (Just to put it out there... )
Thanks We are really excited about releasing a trailer... And definitely Wired... look out for a thread on beta sign ups in the next 2-3 weeks (hopefully). Until then... Spider hero -- Assassin with huge damage, he is only capable of striking one target at a time, making him a poor choice against hordes of smaller bugs. He can, however, slice through the thickest armor with ease, and is fast. His abilities and equipment primarily focus on critical hits and high damage, but he also has some other cool things like a "bullet time" enhanced senses ability, a spider web trap, and more. And a quick note on the Castle Defense aspect of the game. One of the objectives of course is to defend your food stash, which certain types of bugs will try to eat. In helping you defend either you stash or your hero when things start getting hectic, you have access to a variety of turrets which you can upgrade your food stash with (only up to a max of 4 at a time though), each of which can be upgraded 5 times. MG Turret: A low cost, medium ranged, rapid fire weapon. Not all that powerful, but its the perfect filler/support weapon and is a good choice vs lots of small bugs. Sniper Turret: A long range weapon with very high damage. This weapon is a poor choice vs hordes of smaller bugs as it has a slow turning rate and a slow rate of fire. Zapper Turret: Essentially "battery bazookas", these turrets unleash electric tendrils of energy which slow and have a chance to stun enemies. Essential for keeping large groups of enemies in check. Firecracker Turret: A very long range, inaccurate mortar type weapon, with a large AOE, medium damage, and high knocking power, scattering enemies all over the place (hopefully off of ledges to their deaths). Bug Bomb: An emergency defense weapon, the Bug Bomb will explode in a HUGE radius which damages and stuns all enemies if your food stash gets low on health. It is only good for one use. ... and more
Sweet! Also that sounds amazing as well! Now I really can't wait to check this out (especially since you said "and more")!
We're laying low for a while until we get a full blown game play trailer up The game content for all practical purposes is complete though. Right now we're working on all the all the important little things like menus, balance, effects, polish, and most importantly optimizations. There are a lot of things going on in Bug Heroes, so that last step is the big one... we're trying to make it as playable as possible even on an iPhone 3G, without sacrificing cool stuff on the 3GS and iPhone 4 (we'll have an effects slider of sorts to help this out). Another thing we've been working hard on is the story. With the surprising praise we got from N.Y.Zombies' story, we will make sure the story in Bug Heroes is interesting and fun without bogging the game down. As for the price, we'll talk about that more when we get closer to release, but it will most likely be $1.99 or $2.99.
Here are some in game screens, finally Please note many things are still being tweaked and improved (UI, special fx, etc). As always feedback is appreciated. Defend your Food Stash at all costs! Build turrets to help you. Pillbugs are very resistant to close combat damage... they will ball up whenever Beetle or Spider gets too close. Slugs launch toxic slime balls that explode into puddles which slow and poison you. Beetle can knock lighter enemies off of ledges... its fun
