I am debating between getting "A1 Perfect Web Browser" (despite the name! ) and Atomic Web Browser, as an alternative to Safari for the iPad. Atomic has a lot of positive reviews. A1Blah-blah-blah has only a few reviews since it just came out, and unfortunately they appear to be mainly shill reviews. Any opinions on either browser?
Yeah, I'm kind of leaning toward the Atomic. But is it still working for you after all that button-pushing?? http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=56316
of course it does. But really, it is is a very full featured, nice to use browser. Much better than Safari IMO.
I'm using the lite version of Atomic, and it's great. The private browsing option is what sold it for me
I have been using cab mobile from when meiniesys (sorry about the misspelling) did his huge browser comparisons. Anyone using that or switched because another is better? Also A1 may have shill reviews but they are at the top of the charts in sales and numbers. If it was that bad, they pulled one heck of a scam. Anyone have it and using it?
I have both and you prefer A1. Atomic was a decent side browser for Safari (+1 for universal) and A1 has replaced Safari for me. The Hyperscrolling is what sold it for me and it seems to have more features. I think the devs got clever with the A1 name because you can sort apps by NAME and A1 is one of the first apps that will come up under the productivity category. It must have worked because it's now the #1 selling app in the store!
I like a lot of the features in Atomic. Went through a rough patch with the first release but it seems to be cleaned up. I also have iCab Mobile. I prefer the interface to Safari since the tabs are easier to navigate. One thing to keep in mind is that these alternative browsers can open and keep a lot of pages in the background, but they have no way of knowing how much memory is in use or left so sometimes they just crash. Of course I have had that happen with Safari plenty of times, but it seems to be a known limitation. One thing I did miss in the alternate browsers is access to my regular bookmarks. I signed up for xmarks and use their web interface to view my sync'd bookmarks.
I did a side by side test of Atomic and Safari. Safari was twice as fast as atomic for me, loading TA in 4.2 seconds while it took Atomic 8.1
I personally use Mercury Browser because of all the features it has(downloads FTW). But I'm not sure if it is universal. +1 to that.
Can someone with atomic and/or A1 tell me whether the web pages refresh automatically like in safari?? I hate when I change from tab to tab, and if I leave one for too long it automatically refreshes it when I reopen it. This is the main reason I'm looking for an alternative, so I want to be sure this feature is in it. If anyone has tried the apps, please fill me in Thanks! Also, do both the web browsers open at the same pages as they were when you exited?? And if so, do the pages have to refresh or do they open exactly as they were?? I'm currently trying the lite version of atomic, and in the lite version the web browser doesn't save the last opened pages
I think this is a limitation of 3rd party apps. While these browsers know where you left off they can't store anything in memory when they are shut down so they have to reload the tabs. I have had decent luck with alternate browsers caching pages when switching between them. Definitely much better than Safari. With these other browsers it really depends on how much free memory is available on your device. Safari's lousy page caching is the reason I looked into different options.
The best browser on the iPad is iCab Mobile. This browser caches the content of the tabs and does NOT reload the tabs on re-start. I really don't understand why iCab Mobile is not that much known. On the iPhone I prefer Atomic Web Browser because of the real tabs. But on the iPad iCab Mobile is so much better than the other browsers, it is strange to see something like A1 in the US top ten instead of this brilliant app.
iGewappnet, you are right. Don't know why I didn't notice that iCab does cache pages, but it does. iCab is a great browser. I've not had any issues with it and appreciate the adblocker it includes.
With my point of view the best browser on the iPad is iCab Mobile. This browser can work so fast than any other browser it really good to have this type of browser are able to connected with them .
