http://blog.gameloft.com/index.php/2013/06/11/brothers-in-arms-3/ "We cant give you too many details as its still early in development, but we can tell you that its controls are vastly different from previous games in the franchise. Think of Brothers in Arms 3 as an on-rails shooter but instead of being on a track like in an arcade on-rails shooter, you can swipe from one position to another. So navigating maps is easier & more exciting."
You are looking at a frontline commando type of mechanic. More or less but more moving from position to position to advance forward in the map. Sort of anyway. There's a bit more to it than simple on rails but yet it is still on rails. They have had a habit of changing perspective in each of them, from third to first (with third cover perspective) to this. I think the second one had a very good mechanic myself. It'll be interesting to see reaction to this one but they do have to avoid crossing into MC5 (first person perspective/reskin) territory and stuff like Contract Killer series and Frontline series has been very successful so your probably looking at a similar pricing model to those as well.
Yup, I'm out. Is it really that hard to do a joystick for moving, swipe for looking around and a fire and aim button? On-rail games are a disgrace to shooting games in my opinion.
Hell no. Sure straight FPS games are usually better, but there are exceptional on-rails games that are better than most FPS games. Unfortunately for this game, it might blow knowing it was a good FPS, and now theyre making it on-rails. Now that, seems like a huge letdown.
Oh well... on the bright side, maybe it's time we have a PREMIUM type of Frontline Commando game. On the other hand, we know what happened to Brothers In Arms' price model.
Just an example: When a game goes from on-rail to free-movement, everyone goes like: "that's cool". When a game goes from free movement to on-rail, everyone is like: "what the ****? Why would you ruin a perfectly good game?". On-rail is definitely a downgrade. But yes, I did express myself kinda rough before, some games are made for on-rails and some aren't bad, but I wouldn't put those I to the "classic" shooter genre.
I played house of the dead once. I didn't like it... It's just a personal taste that I don't like on-rail games. And as I said before, it's just my opinion. I rather go and play Wolfenstein classic than some fancy looking on-rail game.
I would have been soo pissed of right now because its on rail if i had not see that new rpg announcement from square enix!! So right now i dont care anymore about this!!
I, for one, consider EPOCH to be one of the best iOS games EVER. And that was a cover-based, arcade-type shooter. The TA news on this game mentioned it's gonna be similar to EPOCH, so there might still be hope. BUT... The fact that i know it wasnt like this in the first 2 BIA titles is really a letdown. Actually, the best thing about EPOCH, was that it never tried to be anywhere close to being an FPS.
