+1 I'm not sure what people are expecting, but the game is pretty impressive. Most people really should play through several missions before giving an assessment, and I don't get the impression that people are. There is the occasional lag, and the MP is hit or miss at least for me. The difficulty level may irk some, but overall BIA 2 is what it is.

Here's a brief comparison of the graphics of this game to the original to the PSP.

The graphics are a big step up IMO. Look at the detailed textures.

People are expecting to run and gun with the targeting locked on like in a fragging aliens game instead of how it is in BiA2, WW2 shooter with more duck and cover and a bit of strategy involved.

If you quit the game during a mission does it go back to a recent checkpoint or the start o mission?

If it goes to a checkpoint, how often are the checks?

They are the same as NOVA's controls, just less sensitive and a bit harder to aim. They are hard to begin with, but after playing for a while they become a lot easier.

You go to a checkpoint. They are very frequent. The levels are long so this was a necessity. If you get a call, you shouldn't lose more than a couple of minutes of gameplay at the most.

these might be stupid questoins, but in a multiplayer game:

what are the two green dots on the left edge of the screen? do they mean anything?

and what does the icon above it do (with the two people and a number) - what does that mean? i press it and a bunch more icons appear but I can't press them.

Also, sometimes in a multiplayer game an opponent will have a small red icon that looks like this above their heads: ((o)) ...can't figure out what that means either.

With all due respect, I could not disagree more. First let me say: I have already played 10 of the 16 missions and I have played 3 hours of online multiplayer so I know what I'm talking about.

The controls really are a huge detriment to the game. I agree that this game is less of a run-and-gun than NOVA, but the sensitivity is quite an issue and for me, there are far too many buttons. Also, the buttons are small and cramped together, and I continue to accindentally hit the wrong button despite playing for a while. The controls are a real issue for me.

I agree that the variety of the missions and the grphics are incredible and fun to use. They are a step up from past Gameloft experiences. However, I was shocked by how poor the enemy AI is, especially after the AI was so impressive in NOVA. The enemies always go to the same spot and it is SO predictable where they will move and when they will shoot. Frankly, that is a huge disappointment.

The sound is brilliant, though the voice acting could still use plenty of improvement

as for the multiplayer. Few lag issues, but overall it is not much better than NOVA or MC. It gets the job done and it is enjoyable, but the maps are too small and crowded for a 3 vs 3 TDM....it seems like I get shot as soon as I spawn. There r just too many people on such a small map. Also, there are hackers. I came across a guy who had unlimited bazooka ammo, and It got so frustrating that I eventually just quit. The game has already been hacked by atleast one person, and that is not a good omen.

Overall, I agree the variety of gameplay and graphics are unbelievable, but everything else about the game seems like a step down. It's a solid FPS, but nothing more

I think comparing the AI (or for that matter, the controls) on BiA2 with that of NOVA is pretty unfair. NOVA worked the way it did because it was so constrained. The number of enemies on screen, the size of the environment, the terrain they had to navigate, etc -- they were all very limited. Even in COD the AI is fairly dumb, and most enemies behave according to set patterns (with some variation). To expect independent AI on BiA2 is, IMO, asking for too much from a portable platform. Perhaps Ubisoft could have faked it a bit better, but set patterns is what I expect from a game like this.

What really impresses me about the controls in BiA2 is how well the cover system is implemented. It works well, much better than in Terminator Salvation, and it's fun to use as well. The only area where the controls seem week to me is in the mounted machine gun sequences -- I prefer the dual thumb method in NOVA and MC:S.

@Fruho: I'm a bit surprised that you have such an issue with the controls since you like MC:S so much. I find them pretty similar, although there are more buttons in BiA because you have more options. TBH though, I can appreciate that your comments are sincere precisely because you like MC:S and said that HAWX is the best flight game in the app store (I agree, BTW). It's obvious that you aren't someone hating on this game just because it's a Gameloft published title. I've already mentioned how much I like this, but it's a shame that you and others haven't gotten as much enjoyment out of it. Hopefully, it's something that will grow on you, although you've already played through a lot of it. On this one, we'll just agree to disagree. ;)

As for map size and 3v3 TDM I have to disagree somewhat since I think most maps are about right. Normandy, Tunisia are perfect. Bridges is open but the depth/distance makes it fine. Island is a bit too open but alright. Sicily is the only problem, being small with much of the action in the closed in area of the map.

I think the same holds true for DM but that Bridges becomes a PITA due to spawning with players everywhere in an open/narrow map. However, Island is still alright because the map is wider with greater freedom of movement.

I think each would be fine in both play modes if there were better spawning rules. All maps would benefit from this.

I haven't played more than a couple Domination games yet so I can't comment.

as u said, NOVA was more constrained than BiA2....so wouldn't that allow BiA2 enemies to be more creative with the AI? I was expecting that u would face enemies who ducked behind walls and sprang out on u, or snuck up behind u using barrels as cover, but that was not to be.

I agree though the cover system is impressive. And unlike MC:S where it is just a frill, it is an essential part of the game in BiA2. You do not find the sensitivity poor and the buttons cramped though? Maybe it is because I have largish thumbs, but the buttons pose a problem for me

Well NOVA had a better sensitivity and you could do the draging of the fire button a TON better. Something isn't quite right with that. It's to the point that when I'm firing I just stop moving and use my left thumb to aim. That's the bad thing.

And the AI is kinda a joke compared to NOVA. In NOVA it wasn't scripted. They actually had and AI. They would take cover and dive away from explosives and stuff like that. In BIA 2 they just stand in the open and wait for you to kill them. Sometimes they'll duck in cover, but not often.

Don't get me wrong. I love BIA 2 and think it's a rival with MC:S and NOVA for best iTouch FPS, but it's got a couple problems. Every game does, but they stick out more here.

Maybe hard will change the AI, but I hope the controls are at least updated.
They should let us move the buttons in the options. Necromancer Rising did this, and it's made by one guy. it shouldn't be that hard to do.

Thanks for your comments, and you're right I'm not a gameloft hater. It's not that I found this game bad(the graphics blew me away) but I think my expectations were too high. I thought it would be NOVA on roids, but it didn't meet that standard. That said, I enjoy playing it
