I'm really, really tempted to get this, but I'll wait for more extended impressions from first-wave buyers here.
Deleted! I just can't play this. It lacks rhythm or sync between animation and buttons. Just feels sluggish and not responsive enough. There are real quality fighters out there so games coming out now must be as good to compete. This I find is wanting. Colours too are too washed out an eyesore. Movement is jerky and I had trouble picking up things. Never really enjoyed this at all. Even for free I wouldn't keep it. Just not a quality fighter. I bought it to support the devs but if they even had a look at some of the fighters around they surely couldn't be happy with this.
Really sorry to hear that. I was very hopeful that this would be fantastic. but it sounds like this is several updates away from any consideration. And yeah, if playing it on an iPad is that hard, there's no point in me biting now. Sigh.
Well, considering there was, at one time, no such thing as iads OR iaps in ANY apps, I reserve the right to give any and everything the stinkeye. Or, to put a twist on your words, I couldn't justify a purchase of any app with ads, whether or not they can be removed by spending more. I can't justify spending MY money. Yours, I'll do that.
Look at you all high and mighty welcoming the dev to the forum when they have been here three YEARS longer than you.
You are free to spend your money money whichever way you want. But considering that Bmamba (as NEG pointed out) has been around theses parts for years, and that RealTech has built a reputation of major support and updates to their games, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Yeah charging a dollar for an in app purchase for a game you've already charged for is just lame. Would not buy based on principle.
Hothead used to be pretty active here as well. Let's not even bring up NGMoco before they transformed all of their offline games into + garbage after hitting the Eliminate jackpot. I've quit relying on reputation; devs/publishers seem pretty willing to follow the bottom line wherever it may lead. That's not much of an issue for video/computer games in general, but with the way the appstore works; post-purchase patches pushed which completely alter apps in a fundamental manner; the ability for a dev to completely remove an app as if it had never existed; etc...well, I trusted Hothead, Redlynx, Origin8 (I don't give a damn WHEN I purchased an app, I disn't purchase advertisements). Last I checked Origin8 has been around for years also. I think Hothead got driven out.
And I'm not bashing anyone here...I don't need to be corrected, I have most of the dev's catalog. I'm not suggesting they will screw anyone over. Buy it. Love it. Whatever. I have no ill will towards any long time ios gamers here, nor any devs who haven't yet screwed me. And I don't need to be informed about who is who. I just popped into this thread because I read...a long time ago, I forget when exactly, about this game while it was in development. Reading on my iphone, I often don't read a thread in its entirety before replying to a particular comment. Just relax. We don't need a "defense squad" for every release. I have a habit of randomly chiming in on various threads. It's my ADD at work. Oh, I just saw an ad in a Freeverse game. After an update to "fix bugs". Just remember that whatever apps you buy for ios are all temporary; don't get to attached to any game.
Wasn't correcting you, and of course I know that you've been around for a while. And you are correct that things change, even with long-time iOS developers/publishers. My point was simply that I personally think that RealTech deserves the benefit of the doubt, knowing their history. BTW I've been spending a fair amount of time with the game, and I'm definitely enjoying it as a brawler (not a fighting game). I'm appreciating the fact that it works both as a button masher and as a more complex action/RPG game, with combos and contextual actions. The AI is pretty decent, too, with enemies surrounding you, rolling to dodge your attacks, picking up stray weapons, etc. My biggest issue is the position of the v-stick (which will be fixed on an update). The attack button could have faster response, too, perhaps by speeding up some of the animations (the contextual attack button works perfectly, though). More important, though, is fixing the crash bug that seems to hit after 30 mins or so of continuous play -- perhaps a memory leak. Unfortunately, some of the stages have multiple checkpoints and can take quite a while to finish, and when you crash you end up back at the beginning. The crashes happen most often when you are killed and restart at checkpoint, but they've also happened in regular play. (I'm on an iPhone 5, if that makes a difference).
I might buy this anyway...so most comments by me need to be taken with a grain of salt. My impulse control isn't my strongest trait I loved VF4 (I think that's the one) on the PS2. While you didn't customise a character, you could "teach" a virtual...err, fighter how to play; teach it your combos and style, then challenge the CPU. That game also simulated an arcade tournament...you played CPU opponents with different degrees of skill and different styles, climbing (or dropping) your rank along the way. Same with a Tekken (forget which one) game I enjoyed on the PSP. The "fighting 100's of random opponents" element in this game sounds similar. Do they behave differently? For example, are some opponents button smashers, while others are turtles, or combo spammers?
I would say that the grunts behave fairly similarly, though they do have different fighting styles. The mini bosses (of which there are many) each have their own style and behavior. The cool thing about the system that RealTech has set up is that it's a kit of parts, both in terms of appearances and fighting styles, so that it's easy for them to build a lot of variety into the game. To be clear, though. BoE is a brawler, not a fighting game like VF. Think Streets of Rage with more depth -- some of the moves remind me of TMNT. It helps to come in with the right expectations .
Classification -Fair = Not too bad could be better Animation and control response needs much improvement for this game to make an impression. It's graphics are too washed out for my liking and fighting is not smooth. It's not too bad but it doesn't have me wanting to come back for more. Wouldn't have bought it if there was a trial.
Why dont you wait for the update then chime back in. You've been pretty vocal against the current version. Fair enough. Noted. However for brawler fans there is alot to like here
I'm not against it, just as you said, maybe an update will fix the issues. If they can do that I'll review my review.
Good man ! you got it... Wonder where the confusion come from? why so many people expect a Vf , Mk type of game?! Our inspiration was more in the line of double dragon, finalfight, street of rage, etc... and yakuza, godhand and other for the rpg leveling up of the fighter. I ll post a new video tonite...
