Lots of options for modifiers, a bunch of unlockable characters, the art style is great. What I really like is being able to fuse a weapon of the same rarity mid-run. Still very early on but I’m a lot happier than I was after my first time playing (I felt like, “Why did I bother with another one of these”). In VS, you are just plopped into a world which you are continuously in for the entire run, and you get power when you level up. However in Brotato you are placed into an arena in distinct waves, with powering up happening in between them. 2. Upgrading is very different. There are 3 different ways to gain power in Brotato, being level ups (you gain XP during waves, and for each one you get +1 max hp and a choice of 4 stat increases), the item shop (here is where you can buy items and weapons using money earned in waves) and boxes (these drop from trees occasionally and give you a random free item). 3. Combat is also different with weapons being physically wielded by the player and fired from them. This changes weapon design as most of the wacky stuff comes from on hit effects or passives instead of the core weapons, which are a bit more tame. 4. Progression and characters work differently, as there is very little meta-progression, with it only being used to unlocked difficulty modifiers (a la StS ascension). Characters hold more importance over the course of the run because their stat changes and passives tend to be much more drastic, at least in context. It’s different enough that it feels somewhat fresh. At the very least it has a different fun feeling. The art adds to it. I love seeing all the different guns on my character. Like other said there isn’t much mega progression and unlockables are more focused on difficulty and new characters. But run to run this game is a ton of fun. Worth a try imo. Glad I picked it up. Its fun to experiment with different builds. It did get old for me really quick though since it doesn't have the meta progression. But for me, meta progression is a bit of a double edge sword (grind vs pure experimentation). I think the game is a great fit for those that want to purely experiment with different builds. It does look like it follows 20 Minutes till Dawn model where it shows there's probably a free version of Brotato that'll come later. houseofg likes this.
