So we gave out a few helmets to people. Anyone familiar with Eli Hodapp here on the site can also view his helmet as his profile pic on Twitter:
What happens when one player-with-the-better-plan pays for better gear? Wont that make him trump the other players-with-the-better-plan who didnt have the better gear?
When it comes to guns, they've been balanced in such a way that there really isn't a better gun per se. The "best" guns in the game are locked behind stars so you have to play the game before you can buy them (you earn stars by completing missions) - by the time a player unlocks those guns, they will have enough silver from playing to buy them. On the flip side, helmets and uniforms are not star locked. Players can buy that stuff right off the bat. Each of those provides a small boost in health, which may result in the wearer surviving a critical hit (very slight chance of this). In an incredibly small set of circumstances, a player with a better helmet and/or uniform may be able to beat another player if their plans are just as solid. The helmets and uniforms are priced such that you can buy four of the best within the first 30 - 45 minutes of play. Any benefit an impatient player might get by buying silver at the start is rendered moot by normal players after the first hour of play. Trust me when I say that we put a huge amount of effort into balancing this game to make the IAPs unnecessary. The only reason they still exist is that we couldn't find a reason to not have them. If players buy them, it will help us continue to make content and update the game. If they don't buy them, they won't ever feel burned by it. In any case, the application of your tactics (where you position your guys, the direction you have them face, and the cover you choose to take) is 100% more applicable than what gear your soldiers have.
Well, I am all for supporting Devs that make great games! Looking forward to the release, can't wait!! One suggestion, how about including a multiplayer with only skill and strategy? No bonuses or perks?
Well I think that in any game where there is a head-to-head situation and if both parties make equally advantageous moves, then whomever is more geared would win that battle. There are stats driving everything so its all quite situational. Your evasion could kick in giving your squad member the edge or opposite of that your squad member could have higher accuracy giving you the kill. Weapons and gear play a role but I think Josh was pointing out that nothing has a greater influence on the outcome than having the best strategy. Of course all of these are theoretical situations
Sorry, but can you confirm that the game runs on iPhone 4? I know you said the game doesn't support iPod 4 but I don't remember if you confirmed which devices do support the game. Also for future content, you're planning new maps and MP. Was wondering what your sources of inspiration are. Historical events (Mogadishu, Neptune Star, Fallujah, etc) or just based on cool locations?
Developers you got my money same instant game becomes avaliable in App Store. Game looks amazing ,always liked Rainbow Six and SWAT fast paced action after making a tactical decision.Having promotional price at beginning and offering extra content for initial buyers is more than a nice gesture from your side , which is rare nowadays.
iPhone 4 I believe works, Josh can give you those details. As for future content; you can be sure we have quite a bit planned on exactly what that is. Details are not available yet, but we fully intend to answer those questions soon after launch!
Yes, though it's not the most ideal platform. We built the game with the iPad 2 in mind as our minimum target. It's just kind of luck that the iPhone 4 is working. We don't actually have an iPhone 4 in the office, I had to test on my wife's phone. I was able to run through the whole game, but I did not dive fully into memory testing. It's possible that the menu could crash under some circumstances (if you're doing a lot of gun building or unit outfitting), but this would not set you back progress wise since everything is auto-saved frequently. Due to the customization and need to zoom out on large maps, B&C is very memory and resource intensive. The better your device, the better the game will run. I guess that goes without saying. But yeah, iPhone 4 works as far as I've been able to tell. I would recommend exiting all existing tasks before playing B&C, though. Your iPhone should take care of that automatically, but just in case you should hard-quit everything before a play session.
Great. I'm planning on getting an iPad Mini soon but all I have right now is an iPhone 4, so this is good news for me. Can't wait to play
The iPad Mini will definitely provide a smoother experience, but I'm glad it works on iPhone 4. We're excited to see as many people play Breach & Clear as possible. We really hope you guys enjoy it - it's nerve-wracking waiting to start seeing player impressions!
from the looks of things could the 4S provide a smooth experience as well? BTW Josh your avatar is the icon correct?
Yes, my avatar is the B&C icon - although it's only 50x50 here (there's greater detail on device). 4S works great. No issues there as I believe it's a pretty big step up from the standard 4.
Well at least for me, I love tactical strategy and unfortunately Frozen Synapse and X Com aren't available on iPhone 4, so your game will be filling that genre on my device. Plus, I find the whole military/spec ops theme is a lot more appealing to me than alien invasion or warring AIs.
Wow. The price point is insanely good. Hopefully there will be DLC later on down the track if it sells well. Fingers crossed it will. Wake up early Thur. morning in West Aussie for me. Day off too so straight into it. Bye Bye WHQ and XCOM for a while anyway when this hits. Good luck guys it deserves to sell well.
