Bought the doublers and patches. Breach and Clear is everything I wanted Frozen Synapse to be. Totally agreed with those who are clamouring for a replay feature of some short. When I click breach, bang bang bang, huh what happened? ...
Oh definitely speed should play a factor but skill and damage taken should also be considered too And really, some reviews...2-4 minutes per mission? I don't think so. I'm spending 10,15 minutes planning my tactics on some of the harder difficulties. On that note, what do the harder difficulties change? More enemies, enemies in better cover/better locations, soldiers take more damage, etc? I'm going level by level, difficulty by difficulty...so far I'm up to Afganistan 2, Novice, and have only gotten 1 star on that level. 4 stars on the preceding levels up to Normal
I haven't gotten too deep into this yet, but I'm really enjoying it, and I'm totally new to this genre. Any suggestions I've got have been mentioned plenty, so I'll just say that you guys are making a huge impression with the forum presence, and it's obvious that everyone really appreciates it. As for those who are unhappy with the heavy emphasis on timing with regards to scoring...I kind of assumed that scoring would change with harder difficulties to include damage taken. Is this not the case? Seems fine to me if easier difficulty keeps it, you know, easy, for those of us learning the ropes.
Difficulty increases enemy skill and places more enemies. Eventually there will be quite a bit of diversity in what enemies can do as well
That I will! And in case that wasn't obvious from my previous post, I AM really excited to get my hands on a next-gen iPhone and play Breach & Clear To reiterate: this level of polish and apparent mechanical depth is not common on the platform. As one of those who require optimization to function, I'm still thinking fudge it, my own interest in better performance notwithstanding. Perhaps iPhone 4 is finally ready to be phased out. But if little effort can garner you a host of satisfied players, then I certainly won't argue.
You pretty much got it right on the money, in addition to just being more enemies with higher skill, there are more spawns in corners, behind cover, and even right next to the door on harder difficulties. For this game the locations enemies spawn affects difficulty more than just changing their stats, so the difficulty level reflects that.
Frozen Synapse and XCOM got together and had a baby! It's still in it's developmental stages, and has some growing up to do, but shows lots of potential. Replay and a more comprehensive scoring system (with less emphasis on speed) would be the first things I'd add. Along with more content of course.
So after three days of playing, this game had been everything I hoped for. It's so good and has a lot of tactical depth Good work, devs. Can't wait to see what comes next!
Was playing some more. Thought of something else that would add to some tactical depth. Being able to change movement speed during a plan. So not just normal, half, hold for the entire phase, but approach door at normal speed, enter room at half speed, hold at corner, then move to cover at normal. Anyone else think this would be useful?
I am really enjoying this game! One thing I find is I am not motivated to use UAV and other consumaes due to the cost CS reward. On novice, I might earn 600 but if I used a UAV I spent 325. I would enjoy the game more (I think) if I felt the other tools were at my disposal for tactical purposes rather than having to consider cost/benefit. Indeed, I'm not clear there is much financial benefit to using the consumables.
Well if they were free you would use them all the time and where would be the fun in knowing where the enemy is before a breach I've only used the UAV once to see what it was after that I like the random surprise element.
This game is outstanding! In between reading Tom Clancy, Brad Thor, and the late and much missed Vince Flynn, this game fits right in!
Good news for everyone. I've just got a reply from one of the developers that they are working on bringing replay mode in the future updates. This will allow players to see a full playthrough of the gameplay after a mission. Also there will be options to upload on youtube, etc. "We're going to work towards making the replay feature as robust as possible. The first pass will probably just allow you to watch a replay of a turn instantly - and after the mission it will allow you to watch a full playthrough of a mission (and hopefully, upload that to YouTube). As for new squads, there's a few on the horizon - I can't mention which ones but I can say that we're done with North American squads for now. It's all international squads from here on out."
I get that. In real life, there is no cost to using these tools. The elite units have what they need and make choices based on tactics. What if using a UAV alerted the enemy to your presence and had them either take defensive positions and/or face the doors? What is the real con to using a UAV and sim it. Just a thought.
