Hi! I'm just starting out with the game but am not really understanding tactics I feel. Sometimes I will split my team to breach two doors into a room at once, I try to position them so they at least have partial cover. Beyond that, sometimes a team member takes damage sometimes they don't. What am I missing? Are there ways to detect the enemy without my team being detected? Sneak up from behind? Even on Beginner difficulty I struggle by the third or fourth mission. I am adding level up points as I earn them.
You can always buy the UAV from the shop for each mission which shows the enemy's on the map before the mission starts. And getting the silencer for your guys guns is a big help I found.
@Devs a typo mistake which I don't know if it was mentioned: in the map, Mexico zone, it says "Jaurez" instead of "Juarez". Maybe it was mentioned already, but just in case
Flashbangs, grenades, lock picks, UAVs...we offer a whole mess of options to conceal yourself and give you an edge! Be sure to try em out! Our spelling guy has been sacked.
I reran mission 3 using flash bangs and grenades. Still only got 1 star! 3 team members took damage and I was careful (but using poor tactics due to just learning) so may have taken longer than I should have. How important is time to star ratings? Oh, I bought breach grenades but they do not appear on the load out screen for any team members. Is this a bug or do I need a certain type of team member to equip them? Inventory shows I have 4 (in the Market). Is there a video in this thread or elsewhere that might give me ideas of what I am missing/doing wrong?
On mission 3 you need to be somewhere around 15 seconds time wise, time is indeed integral to star ratings. The breach grenades appear on the screen where u are assigning doors to your squadmembers. They are in the bottom left of the box that has "Door kick" "Shotgun" and "Lockpick." Obviously "Explosive" being the fourth.
One of the tooltips I saw on the loading screen seemed to indicate stars were all about time. I played a mission again as aggressively as possible and got the full 5 stars despite 3 team members taking heavy damage. I'm not sure how possible that will be on harder difficulties, but I assume their requirements for 5 stars are raised (plus you'll have a higher leveled squad and better gear). I really wish the game would have some documentation to explain things like how to earn stars and what all the different stats actually do.

I guess adding context would fix Venturebeat's "shallow" con
We will be addressing the lack of documentation as soon as we possibly can. We will be making star ratings more clear with the next update.
SlideToPlay gave us a 3/4 - which is not bad. VentureBeat definitely would have been much more favorable to the game had we provided more context to the gameplay and Game Informer probably would have given us a 7+ if we made one small adjustment to the star system (higher difficulties award stars for lower difficulties). We may be changing that in a future update. Overall we're very happy with the reception. It doesn't seem as positive as our last game, but we worked on that one for 1 1/2 years, we only had 11 months for Breach & Clear (and it was a totally different game for 4 of those months!).
Half speed vs normal speed - what are the advantages? That's not explained, I don't think. Besides video replays and some kind of split-screen/PIP camera, I think a revamped tutorial would be incredibly useful, as well as a quick guide in the options for a quick refresher on what special abilities do. Also would love to see a hardcore mode (permadeath), snake cam consumable (see into a room before breaching), and the ability to erase a plan and start over in one button press
If you look at your troops' paths, you'll see little ticks that show where they'll be in 1 second, 2 seconds, etc. Going at half speed lets you control the spacing of your troops (say you want the guy with full health to enter the room before the guy with half health, you could make the guy with half health move slower). The only other thing I'm really missing is side-by-side comparisons of new gear and equipped gear (I did see that others have already suggested this). You could actually show the stats side by side or just show the difference next to the new gear's actual stats (e.g., 25 (+5)). It would probably be a good visual cue to show lower stats in red, equal stats in white, and higher stats in green.
Loving the advanced difficulty. Hoping for some larger more open levels in the future as this game makes for the perfect turn based squad shooter game. Maybe some smoke grenades and possibly some kind of non lethal take downs?
Muzzles are only for visuals, no status boosts ? I have to admit I'm enjoying game a lot, so much guns ,attachments and customization options just insane Money gain is normal, for better equipment you'll have to rerun a couple of missions, but it doesn't feel like a grinding session as there is much more random placed enemies at higher difficulties that forces you to think twice before sending your elite force into next room no matter how good they're equipped, also you will be constantly unlocking new things. Game definitely needs more spectacular camera angles that follow teammates, put you right into action and pump up adrenaline.Like the slow- motion camera at the end of each turn though. Overall game is currently very good and has ton of potential to become excellent and ultimate pimp-out - my soldier - and sent him - guns blazing - simulator. Cannot wait for bulletproof armor , and well ballistic shields if it ever happens
Aren't shields more for SWAT than Spec Ops? Either way, I think that would be a cool addition as well
At first I thought the criticism over the tutorial was overblown. It seemed fine. But when I learn details like the ticks that show you every second of your path (not sure how I missed that I wonder if a lot of the issues I have with the game is because I just really don't quite understand it all yet. Well that and the inability to rewatch turns is a huge oversight
Yeah that's what I want to see added the most. Several times I've been injuries or killed and I'm like "What happened, what did I miss". It would be useful to be able view replays of each phase as well as your entire mission, slow it down, maybe have an action camera (behind the back like in the App Store images) Or just to re-watch an awesome breach.
