Matchmaking is fast, connection is solid for me on WiFi or LTE, touch controls work better than expected. I've always been a big fan of SSB, so having this on my phone to pull out for a quick match any time or place is awesome! emape and Talbs like this. I have had access to this on Xbox One but ignored it. Didn’t realize how fun and similar it is to Smash Bros. Worth a try IMO. Jstorm Well-Known Member Feb 2, 2020 1,082 474 83 Male Employed Earth #8 Jstorm, Aug 6, 2020 Okay. Even though I am shamefully bad at Smash Bros, I will give it a try. ShinHadoukin Well-Known Member Feb 20, 2015 970 141 43 #9 ShinHadoukin, Aug 6, 2020 A huge company like UBIsoft making a bland visual F2P game isn’t too exciting. The graphics are those used in dozens of mobile F2P garbage games. UBI’s other F2P games have been atrocious. This may be better (one purchase for all characters for example). It has a lot of praise so I may be way off. Just my immediate thoughts firing it up the first time. Nevermind the politics in the IAP store as well. This was developed by Blue Mammoth Games and only published by Ubisoft. Granted, Blue Mammoth was acquired by Ubi in 2018, but it was after this game had already been launched for a while and prior to that they were just a very small indie studio doing their thing. anthony78 Well-Known Member Nov 13, 2015 3,126 703 113 #11 anthony78, Aug 6, 2020 I like it but it’s too zoomed out at times even changing to use different cameras. pathogen541 Well-Known Member Jun 19, 2016 503 355 63 #12 pathogen541, Aug 7, 2020 Its pretty slick dude, but it is loaded with iAP, tho most of all of it seems geared towards in-game visual effects and character customization as opposed to anything that tips the favors your way.....??? EmilianoDTH Well-Known Member Feb 25, 2019 103 29 28 Male #13 EmilianoDTH, Aug 11, 2020 I played it for a while and, while its super fun at first, its start to get real messy. The camera zooms out and zooms in and you end up without knowing where the hell your brawler is. The touch controls are OK, but the action here is frenetic and you are definitely giving a huge advantage to the ones who are actually playing on a console or with a pad. Another con is the interface and the menus. So unfriendly and impractical. emape New Member Aug 11, 2020 4 1 1 Male Dortmund #14 emape, Aug 11, 2020 I played this title on Nintendo Switch, I will definitely play it on the iPhone. A very good idea, especially since the game also gathers fans on Android. Is it possible to compete with consoles on the phone? They are trying to work around some App Store policy limitations, so no ETA. But it is coming back, of that they seemed sure. The combination of Ubisoft mobile title + lots of IAP + simple comic book style graphics is not usually an indication of originality or quality Luckily, this time around, that's not the case! So for the wary but curious: Brawlhalla is a very well established esport (finals regularly pull in 50 000 - 100 000 viewers on Twitch), and a highly technical, skill-based fighting game developed by invested, passionate devs. Blue Mammoth Games developed the game on their own, and were only purchased by Ubisoft 3 years after the game's open beta release. The game is something of a rising star in the FGC - it offers a very nice contrast to SFV's and MC's combo-focused, less dynamic and less movement-based fighting mechanics. It's community in particular is kind of nuts (almost exclusively in good ways), with some extremely passionate personalities running the show and pushing the game to greater player numbers and recognition (there's an actual documentary about Foda, Brawlhalla's esport director, and his epic quest for views, clicks, likes and possibly pokes). And all art assets are developed inhouse. The graphics didn't appeal to me at first either, but now that they've grown on me, I find them nuanced and characteristic rather than bland. And they communicate important visual clues in a chaotic environment very well (especially after the 5 years anniversary graphical update two days ago). Apart from the fighters - which can be bought for the in-game currency, MOBA/LoL-style - the IAP are only for cosmetics. There are no gameplay advantages to be bought. And you can unlock every single character and non-cosmetic element of the game for free. (There is a battle pass, but it only gives cosmetics, more currency for cosmetics, and helps level your characters quicker. Levelling characters does not make them stronger, but rather gives more color schemes once you've unlocked their basic fighting stances. The latter happens very quickly - much like a tutorial for that particular character - and never benefits from a battle pass in any tangible fashion.) I wish more of the skins were available for in-game gold (gold will mostly get you new color schemes), but given that cosmetics is the game's primary revenue stream, I don't begrudge the devs that source. And they regularly hand out some very nice cosmetics as Twitch drops, so after a while even a completely f2p player will have some character and weapon skins to customize her characters. To sum up, what looks like a cheap f2p play for our wallets is rather the opposite, a hardcore, technical esport for dedicated fighting game players, and the kind of game I'm kind of amazed to be playing on my smartphone. ShinHadoukin Well-Known Member Feb 20, 2015 970 141 43 #17 ShinHadoukin, Jun 14, 2021 I am trying to figure out the best way to do this: Does the console version link to mobile? If so, should I buy this on xbox and then log-in with mobile & have all characters? If I buy things in the app, does that connect to a console account? Is there a single iap that gives all characters for the life of the game Any tips on best route here? I'm playing about 2 years by now and very pleased with the regular updates. It's great that new characters appear really often which is very important for such a game. I am already well versed in all the key characteristics and mechanics of characters but sometimes I check on this resource where I can find guides, combos, character tier lists and stuff like that.
