This a re-release as I remember this game from over a year or more ago, I can remember the developer sending me a copy for my channel. ?
@hellscaretaker, the game was never released until 3 days ago actually, it was a beta test release probably. The dev started in 2014, it has been in standby several months from time to time as we (artist and me, we both work on the game design too) are not full time on this. @Misfit @raravan Each time I think about something, it unbalances the gameplay too much while you get more and more powerful. How would you do that in this game? Besides this, I know permanent upgrades are addictive, I like them too when I want to relax on a game. But I also think it breaks the purity of the gameplay. It's like if you add permanent upgrades to a chess game. It's possible, and it's probably fun and it has probably been done already, but it's not the same game. I'm not good at doing this, but I'll think about it, it could be another mode. @OscarStreaker @gmattergames I just tried Dungeon Tiles after your posts, and very nice game. The best strategy is not yet clear to me. When I get a big dragon in the grid, I try to get rid of it with a 3 tiles match, but most of the time I don't manage to, and I get killed. @Jetjet thx, hm yes I won't say no to a TA front page And actually the game could use a TA front page, as the numbers are low for a free game I think. I don't really know, it's my first free game. Here are a couple of screenshots from my iOS and Android consoles. The game did better on iOS probably because of the mention on TA "what's new this week". It was not featured on the appstore or google play as far as I can know. iOS download numbers : Android install and uninstall numbers (a bit concerned about this, 25* of uninstalls seems a lot, I wish I had this info on iOS) : Nice reviews on iOS (if it's one of you, thx guys!) : Nice ratings on Android :
Maybe a good way to monetize this game is with a selection of unlockables characters with differents upgrades like warrior +1 attack dwarf +1 resistence etc... Great game!
Thanks so much for sharing this. It's cool to see how many downloads games get. What have you done so far to market it? I'd highly suggest also posting to ProductHunt. I've had good success on there. r/gamedev also LOVES content like this.
Thx, I've looked into producthunt, I'll post there, I need to wait 3 days before I can post anything. On /r/gamedev they don't encourage self promotion, so I won't post there as I never posted there [edit] forgot to answer yout question. I've written to maybe 20 sites/youtubers 3 weeks before release, with a trailer lnk and a promocode to test the game. TouchArcade and appAdvice were the only sites to mention the game when it's been released so far, not single android site talked about it, so that's maybe why it's doing so bad on Android. Also I sent an email to about 800 email adresses (people who subscribed to a newsletter from my prev games).
I tested it 2 years ago while it was in beta and it was great. Nice to see you finally released it JP !!
I agree w/ your r/gamedev observation but I wouldn't post it as a "hey check out my game thread." Everybody hates those. They love the "This this is what I've learned about my game so far threads." As a game dev, I find it fascinating the things you learned, how your game is doing, what worked and what didn't especially if it's backed by data. I might even consider talking about the other games you've released. Cheers
Thx Mat ! @ DaveMApplegate I just posted on /r/gamedev as you suggested, let's see if people care about it there, or not...
Just commented. I wish you the best. Keep me updated with how many downloads you think you get off Reddit. I've been spending a lot of time working on how to get downloads for my game recently : )
Thx. The post on reddit did only 100 or 200 downloads I think, not a big deal, but of course it depends on how it is voted of course. Yesterday the game had 3K downloads on iOS, don't know where it comes from, maybe a feature, but I couldn't find it. Android is still sooo low (about 300 downloads..)
