That is a good question with a complicated answer. We love the Misu Misu Kaboom name and think it is very representative of how crazy the game is. However we had a lot of feedback from people that lost interest in the game simply because the name. Some thought it was a girly game after hearing the name, others thought it was a badly translated Asian game, and a lot of people just were not able to figure enough out of the name to get interested to even dig into the app store description. Almost everyone agreed it was the name that drove them away. All feedback went down to: the name must be native sounding and descriptive to English speakers. We had some one point us to the app store and just look at the names of apps that are in the top 50. With extreme exceptions, they have descriptive names, have big studio backing, or are established franchises. I bit my tongue all the way of the renaming process (was not an easy task, especially after getting a bit of coverage from the Touch Arcade Podcast.) It really stung when we got mentioned as one of the top Cat Games of 2011 under the old name. Ill be extremely honest: At the end the rename was a not-too successful attempt at fixing what we perceived was a hard to market name. It did appear to have help, but by the time it happened we were out of view in the charts to make much impact. We wanted to get some advertising done to promote the game under the new name, but by that point our marketing budget was drained, and we were exhausted. Thats where this free offer comes in, an attempt to bring in attention to the game. Hopefully the coming update will give Apple reason to give us another chance at the New & Noteworthy section and see if the new name finally can do an impact.
I wish you guys luck. Some people just cannot see the charm in names like that. I hope this all turns out well for you.
