But does this have checkpoints or a level structure? Starting from the start each time seems very tedious to me. And from what you are saying, the story mode seems quite lengthy.
No checkpoints but the game is seamlessly structured with segments: Segment 1, boss1, segment2, boss 2, etc. And later on, you can unlock warps on the first 3 segments that take you directly to the boss of that segment. Once you get familiar with the game and get farther, it feels like it takes about 60 seconds to get to the next segment or boss. maybe 2 minutes, but i havent really timed it. EDIT: Timed it and it took exactly 2 minutes 15 seconds to get to the first boss without using any warp gates. What makes this different as a runner is that the max speed isnt an issue on Blood Roofs. The speed is still manageable, but the difficulty is in the structure of the levels. Even the enemies arent that much of an issue. With this, each successful story playthrough should take about 12 minutes on average. Maybe less, and after the story.
Can you give me a few pointers PLEASE , some do's & don'ts, what I should purchase first? Thanks for any help
Had some time to play again finally, and discovered a few bugs, one of them being extremely nasty, though the set of conditions to trigger it isn't easy to reproduce. First of: Wings only seem to drop on the very first run. I have the 2x wings unlocked already, and last time I played I didn't get any of them to drop at all. First game I played yesterday had 2 of them drop in quick succession (was a fresh start, so terminated from the task bar too). Any subsequent games had no wings drop at all. Spoiler tagging the next two, since they're well, spoilers I guess Spoiler If you destroy Temple Thing's (Bar... something) bit of temple blocking his gold weak point eyes during the first encounter with him, he'll have miraculously repaired that bit of temple the next time you encounter him on the bit just before the train. His health bar is still for his eyes though, and still invulnerable, though I guess that might be so you don't miss all encounters with him. Spoiler And the nasty one, I managed to die on the train level by jumping into one of the bridges it passes under (oops ), but managed to do this at the exact same time Temple Thing crashes the train. I did lose an extra life, but subsequently, could continue on running as a big bloodstain which sprouted wings when it jumped. Seemed to not be able to be hit by the train segments, either that or I lucked out, since I really wasn't paying attention to them at that point, though I do believe I could just run through monsters still after that. Didn't experiment much further, since I was close to beating my own score on it, and didn't want to do that on a bugged god mode run. Was able to kill it off by running into a wall at least. Regardless, I guess this bug might just be caused by dying just when a cutscene happens, and if so, can probably happen in any of them, it's just near impossible to do that on most of them.
I don't think this is really accurate, because I've had wings only drop on my second or third run... I'm pretty sure it's all random. I've also had my character disappear after being hit, with the bloodstain remaining on the screen. But after 10 hours of playing the game, I've only had it happen once, so it's not really a constantly occurring issue... but is something that should be dealt with.
For who are contemplating purchasing this game, and the new posters who have just picked it up, I figured I would mention an aspect of this game that has been overlooked by many: I usually suck at endless runners. Most rely heavily on luck, and you face an inevitable death as the game speed ramps up ad finitum. In my experience (and I have a lot with endless runners; maybe not Exact-Pscience level , but quite a bit) this game is much more dependent on skill than the vast majority of runners. The speed hits a cap pretty early; the challenge increases as the layout the obstacles and platforms grows more difficult...requiring the player to become more and more precise. Even the level layouts stop growing more difficult after a short time; after that, the game only gets more difficult by repeating the most difficult layouts more often. There is no "forced death" however, unlike most endless runners.
Oh yeah, I wanted to add one more thing. Most people who have given this game a shot are impressed with the visuals, music, etc...everything in this game is the result of one man's work. The programming, GUI design, gameplay, graphics, music...everything was done by one single person. I consider that pretty damn impressive.
Jeeeeez I didn't know that. I just picked this up yesterday and yes I'm impressed with the grahpics and gameplay etc the overall package is a fantastic game. Being made all by one guy makes it that little bit more special. Congrats to the dev.
You can destroy the Temple's eyes during your second encounter with it. She'll still show up again, but if you look close, you'll see she has an eyesocket filled with blood instead of her gold eye. I've decided that the best way to top my score/distance is to take breaks; let some of the stress melt away and give me time to blink. So I've got my the game paused and the phone plugged in (this game will drain your battery pretty fast). Right now I'm at 15264 meters with a score of 18332433. The Chaos Golem is kaput, so I'm set up for a rocord attempt. Too bad a cheater is at #1 in the rankings. My Game Center id is DON'TSHOOT!, so if you have any questions or need any hints for this game, feel free to PM me.
Without even owning this game or looking at the rankings, let me guess... the top spot is held by a player named "Finilark?" DBC
STATUS UPDATE: Time for another break. I think I've topped my old record. I'm currently at 23,266 meters. Score is 35,306,405. 8 Grenades, nine boosts. I haven't been using boosts. Nearly died the way that I did last time: in the areas with the rideable worms and sunken towers, I just escaped from getting stuck in between 2 long, narrow houses. The monsters become a real problem at this range; it's very possible to get killed by those purple projectiles they shoot out. I'll continue my run in about 30 mins.
****ing HELL! I slipped off of a rooftop. the dumbest way to die. Worse than getting stuck behind a chimney. I had all of my boosts and grenades. Useless. ehh, new high score: 37,293,749 new distance: 24,254.82 meters.
Woh. that's some serious run you got there. Good luck getting as much score as you can! Me, im not even going to attempt getting 2nd place. Being on the top 25 is already perfect for me. LOL.
Just took number 2 spot in score. Behind what's got to be a fake score. I can't believe I basically have the number one score. And I got tired so basically gave up. Probably could have kept on going!
Well, either wings from orbs are bloody rare then, or my luck is awful, or they're bugged. This is not from 1 or 2 runs, this is from 2 hours worth of runs, killing nearly every orb monster along the way. So if it's bugged or not is a wholly different matter, but there's something strange going on with them.
