Blog spam like this? Seriously?

  1. Oi. This has got to be some of the most absurd spam I've ever gotten.

I used to have a "Submit your app for review" page on my (now dead) blog. The blog is still live, I just don't update it anymore as I've moved on to things more important. This submission page was removed when I put the blog aside so devs wouldn't waste their time submitting promo codes for apps that would never get reviewed. (Well, the link to it was removed; the page is still there.)

Now get this: I'm getting spammed from the submission page! Seriously. And this isn't some standardized form a spam bot would already know how to deal with; I created it myself. Custom fields and all that, even a captcha verification system. So here's what I just got in my E-Mail:

(The formatting is screwed from the C&P job) So ... evidently my form has been bookmarked by some bot and taught how to spam through it. Despite the fact that only I will ever see it. It must be a bot both because of the random madlibs-type text and because this is the second one today I've received.

Wish there was a way to screw with the bots hitting this page... I'll probably just have to remove that page altogether though.

I must say that's a weird and funny e-mail. Find the bot IP and block the IP of the bot. Thus, the bot can not view the page

  3. Chances are the IP is spoofed. It isn't like that page is of any use anymore so I can unpublish it without a problem. I just thought it was weird that some botmaster would go to the trouble of adding a script specifically to spam my site's submission page when no one but me would ever see it and it isn't like I'm ever going to fall for absurdly obvious spam. Or any spam really, but that sort most of all. Just seemed like a senseless waste of time -- not that I don't mind wasting a spammer's time. :) I just wish I could tie up their bot like you can tie up telemarketers by stringing them along.

Well block any IP's you get from the spam bot or what ever...
