New Developments? Teasers? Just checking in, I know we'd all love to see some new pictures or info about how this game is coming..
Hey guys, sorry for the lack of info - been so busy developing! Block Fortress War is coming along great, we've got most of the content in, and will be entering the balance and polish phase very soon! In the meantime, check out one of the other races, the Zomblocks! Zomblocks are a shambling mass of a race, which focuses on overwhelming the enemy with sheer numbers, as well as hindering them with debilitating effects. They have no technology and no ranged units, but have a huge host of different mutations that you can customize your creeps with. Anything from rending claws, to a leaper mutation which makes them leap incredible distances into melee combat, to radioactive trails left in their wake, to a multiply mutation, which makes them split on death - Zomblock have a lot of interesting options! Additionally, all of their blocks either enhance their units, or cause various negative effects on the enemy - they have no blocks that can attack.
Well, this game isn't even close to being like Total War And just because there's not individual unit micro doesn't mean there isn't tons of strategy! There is lots of base building (each race has their own unique set of blocks - this is still Block Fortress after all ), resource and map control, teching up, hero and ability usage, melee vs ranged combat (ranged enemies can be "tied up" in melee so they can't use their weapons) and a very important element of "macro" strategy related to how you customize your armies for each level. The sheer variety of races, blocks, heroes, and equipment for armies makes it so you will actually have to constantly think and re-evaluate how to tackle different foes.
But is there a basic understanding in the AI that ranged go behing the melee? Cause that'd be silly to have a bunch of archers runnin around with the melee peeps
Just by the nature of units functions, they will behave in an optimal way - so naturally you will see melee units leading the charge while ranged units sit back and shoot. Units have preferred targets and their own set of AI, based on the equipment you give them.
Forgot to mention, there will actually be 5 races - we didn't want to say until we knew for sure we could fit the last race in Aaaand, you've got the last 2 race names in that list
