I've never played minecraft, it just has zero appeal to me. I like the idea of total, building freedom...but don't see it as a "Game" per-se. The whole "cube" graphics thing is also a turn-off for some reason... I'm not what you would call a graphics whore, in fact being 33 and growing up in the 80's has given me the appriciation of a "good" game without all the bells and whistles... I'm quite a bit partial to a good Tower Defence game, being a lover of all games that offer upgrades, strategy and a sense of progression... Now onto Block Fortress which manages to mesh all my gaming loves (and hates) into one small neat package (199Mb installed)... Once I got my head around the "cube graphics" aspect, I uncovered a very deep TD game. This literally is, build a "Tower" (Fortress) and "Defend" it by any means. I've only plowed about an hour into this so-far, but the more I play, the more I "get-it" and would love to see a thread started for tips & tricks, strategies and pictures of peoples fortresses'... I would love to see pictures of early, middle and end fortress builds, just to see the design changes as thing heat up!! Great game Foursaken with almost unlimited possibilties...
Another AAA title from a superb developer. Foursaken, In line with your last 2 games, can you please release a game in the future (or possibly an added feature to Block Fortress) which is a combination of both Heroes and Castles and BF? Instead of turrets, we can have archers and blunderbusses, instead of fortress, we can build castles, and we can use swords, maces, and bows instead of guns. Both H&C and BF are solid titles with reasonable price and IAPs.
Played it only for 1 hour so far. Dang my train to work should take longer love it! I especially love the controls which are much easier than in minecraft PE. So do i keep my skill level when playing on a different map? I assume i loose my xp progression if i load an older save from the same map? Cant wait to get better weapons! You guys are the best! I hope this game sells great because you deserve it. Greets from switzerland.
I'm in the same boat as you. Only I don't get it, I find this quite confusing and really have no idea of how to play this game. Maybe it's not for me! I just want to learn to play before I make that decision because I love the whole build you fortress from scatch and protect it. My daughter loves minecraft so hopefully she will like this and then teach me how to play
So the main goal of the game is to protect the barrack you place on the map. Start by making a perimeter around it with minerals(blocks). Place some turrets strategically so that they don't get damaged and protect the barrack. The only way the turrets work is with one of those power blocks (whatever their name is) close by the turret. It's not too intimidating just try playing for a little...
Terrible... I can't resist anymore... Weak human.. BOUGHT! H&C is so great, why hesitate? And the price is great too. Thanks!
To be honest, this is how I feel about the game as well. It doesn't run particularly well on my iPad 4. It's hard to describe but it doesn't feel very smooth, and looking around feels quite jerky. There are a TON of interesting ideas, but because of the mix and match of all the genres, I find the game very confusing. Without an in-game tutorial, I find myself struggling to keep up with the information in the guide. Heroes and Castles I loved because it was fun and it took only minutes to fully understand how the basic game worked - though difficult to master. For me personally, this game didn't quite live up to H&C just because of the jerkiness and the confusion. If you guys added a pure TD mode without FPS, I'd love to have that option so I fully get the basics of building.
@FM- Congrats on another great Foursaken mashup. The way you guys mix genres is unmatched and I hope this game gets the exposure it deserves. Between this and h&c I'm not playing any other games for a lonnnnggggg time
I'm not sure what's so confusing, the basics are pretty simple. Build walls to protect the barracks, power the weapons with power blocks, mine minerals with the mine blocks and power those too. That's enough to get anyone started and from there on you'll more or less learn as you play. FYI, it's smooth on my iPad 3. There seems to be a bit of a kick to the guns while firing and sometimes I move the camera when I meant to touch the movement "stick", but if you mean something else maybe it's a bug?
The more I play the more I'm loving this, just play it like minecraft and don't bother with the tutorial and just learn as you go . Each game I've played so far I've made it one further wave and I've just had a browse through the upgrades and can see this lasting longer than heroes and castles for playtime (and I'm still playing H&C) This is a perfect mix of minecraft and tower defence. Seriously what more can you want, building, shooting, exp bars, unlocks, upgrades, this seems to have it all.
Couldn't have said it better myself. People need to stop holding off on this because they don't like (probably haven't played) Minecraft. You're using your bias in totally the wrong situation here, it's not the same game and liking one has little relevance to the other. There are other games about building stuff!
I'd have to to describe it as low FPS - looking around is very jerky, and I definitely don't have that smooth looking around I get in other FPS games. It makes it very difficult to aim with the gun. I initially thought my iPad 4 just couldn't run the game with good FPS at retina resolution, but if your iPad 3 is having no FPS issues at all, then it might just be me.
I actually avoid FPS games on iOS so I wouldn't be able to compare it to those, but I do a ton of console and PC gaming so I'd probably notice if it was really low. It seemed fine to me but I'll look out for it more the next time I play.
It does run smooth on iPad 4 and I am enjoying it.Also never played Minecraft so I was a bit confused with all that creative " freedom" game gives you, but after reading the guide game became much clearer.
