Tougher The new version seems tougher. My bases need redesigning. They used to mostly lose no blocks in a battle, sometimes 1 to 10 and rarely get lasered for losses of 20 or so. Now it's mayhem, with 30-60 block losses and laser damage all the way from outer base to damaging the rax. Yikes. Mobs are running around all over the base too, where they used to get frozen and dealt with quickly before. The sky blocks are falling!
It seems that the bot collecting cash yields less than $5 per coin. Also auto-pause seems to be turned off
@kennyk: you win best gif of the day @bronxsta: I think the best thing I did early was mod up the shotgun, and then next I modded the plasma rifle. Then I added some detector mods to my most commonly used blocks. At some point I also added the power source and salvage mods to the mine shaft. This really allows you to be more efficient in how you set up your defenses.
Thanks for the tips. My main problem is balancing accumulating minerals and establishing defenses. Put down a mine and power block on first wave? Barely enough for a effective defenses. Focus on defenses? Not enough materials to upgrade or unlock anything. Like I said, only once did I pass a wave 10. Any other times, I could barely make it to wave 8 or 9. So collecting gold is easy. How do I gather enough minerals to upgrade the bunker, set down power blocks and lights during night, build effective defenses...all at the same time?
Two mods I started to focus on early are the power source mod and the detector mod. That way you don't need power blocks or lights (for now) and can save some resources. For my first round I will usually build two mines, put two plasma turrets on my barracks, and buy the plasma pistol to shoot with, and then build up from there. But, I'm no pro, and I haven't gotten past wave 23 yet.
How would I accumulate so much? In my current game, I have five mineshafts going, each well defended, dual lasers provided overwatch from my bunker and my bot buddy hunting. Actually I got a good feeling about this game, got lucky with groups of minerals on this map. Yet I'm only getting 120+ minerals per wave (I think it's 20 minerals per mine, right?) Also, loving the bots. Only using the standard bot but it's so helpful! Very nice seeing the enemy counter reduce and your turrets haven't even fired yet. I want to get another but only can get one (want to save $$ for an upcoming game). Any recommendations? I'm leaning towards the minigun-rocket bot. Mobile firepower on the battlefield always helps By the way, would be my first time getting IAP! Got to show support for the quality devs
An idea regarding in app purchases Honestly i am not very in to in app purchases, but in this case i am okay with it. I don't feel like it's pushed on me like in many other games. However what i would really like is if the game addapted the dlc princip of consoles. Mostly because i feel it more classy and i would feel better about bying it. It would go well with a game this classy. A wouldn't mind seeing a "coop pack" ( although I offcours would prefer it free ) and things like a "more blocks pack", "character skin pack", map packs and stuff like that (map packs is an absolute must! Want new inviroments!) I think these kinds of in app purchases is is much more appeeling as it gives them more of an expansion feel than just unlocking something that is locked. Especially if the packs actually had to be downloaded. Personally I would rather buy a "robot pack" than buying them one buy one. Even if it is the same price, just because i feel better about it. This being said I am in no way angry because of the in app purchases. I don't have to buy them if i don't want and i get wall-e. I don't think i will be buying any of the robots. Not because i think the price is unfair, but because i'm not so amazed by them, unless the add a big panda robot sitting still and eating bamboo that is. Therefore I might not be the right person to state something about this. However I do think it is more classy. Sidenote: there is a bug occuring where i suddenly get a grey screen. I think I end up inside a block or something. This has happened several times and mostly i can't get out.
Great patch by the way! Love the jump pack. I think it should recharge whenever it is not in use though, or atleast have the possibillity to be manually "reloaded".
@bronxsta: eventually your plasma rifle or shotgun is good enough that you won't need any turrets to defend your base for the first couple waves. This allows you to just build mines with your money. I think with my last game I didn't build any turrets till wave 4 maybe. I've never had 1000 minerals at once, but I've never been past wave 25. Reading this board, there are some people who have made it to wave 100 or so. I think when you're making it that far you probably are also mining a lot more minerals than my average game. Generally block fortress is a game that you improve gradually with. Any time you craft a new mod, you are basically guaranteeing that your next 'new' survival game will go better than the last. That sense of constant improvement is one of my favorite things about this game.
Another thing: what's the use of Tech Metal? You can upgrade it, but why, if other blocks are cheaper and I could save my rare materials for equipment and turret upgrades? --- Also my previous questions: - Which is the best bot to get? I can only get one (saving $$$ for upcoming games). I'm leaning toward the minigun-rocket bot. - Another poster said the early goal is to accumulate 1000+ minerals. But how? In my current game, I have six mines running but with buying and upgrading stuff, I'm never even close to having that much mineral - Can I place mines anywhere to gather regular M? Or just on the mineral cubes?
@bronxsta: I think the HP mods make tech metal more useful later in the game. Eventually the enemies start inflicting A LOT of damage and you need all the additional HP you can get. I haven't gotten there yet in the game, but I can see how it would eventually be useful. You can stack the mining drills on top of each other (not the mine shafts though). This allows you to get a large number of minerals from each cube, on each turn. My guess is that this is how you can accumulate 1000 M relatively quickly. Again, I've never done this, or found it necessary to have this much M to advance, but other people seem to have done it. I haven't tried any of the bots yet, but I'm also looking forward to hearing more impressions of them.
Cool, thanks for the info What about placing mine shafts on regular terrain? I was reading a review saying that placing mines on rare mineral blocks give you more minerals. But can you place mines on any terrain surface? --- Also possible bug: I was able to upgrade my bunker to Level 2. Then when I had enough $$ and M, I tried to upgrade to Level 3, the Upgrade icon wouldn't register. Instead it would register as me tapping whatever block was behind the Bunker Upgrade menu (i.e. sand, turret, etc.). Unless I'm misunderstanding the bunker upgrade process and I'm missing something. But I can neither repair nor upgrade the bunker to Level 3
Do you want impressions? I bought bot pack and they are great! (I use them all but the standart one - I haven't even tried him yet - I wanted to throw some money on my favorite dev). You can switch them between waves. Also Jetpack replaced my stimpack (well, sometimes I switch to stimpack when I have low health and then I change my bot to support (shield) one) Bronxta: not on regular terrain but you can place them to deposits without "mineral square"
Your explanation about the mines is a bit unclear. What do you mean by "to deposits"? And so I can't place the mines on any patch of grass or dirt? --- So out of the bots you've tried, which would you recommend? I can only get one right now and am liking the idea of the minigun-rocket bot. More firepower is always good. But the others all have their advantages like the shield or free repairs
When you start some map, there are MINERAL DEPOSITS with "mineral square" on top of them - once you mine all the minerals (0/0 minerals left), the square will disappear but mineral deposit is still there. after you mined all minerals, it looks like regular terrain but you can't destroy it using weapons and using first tool from equipment will not show "grass/snow/..." But mineral deposit. I'll try to say it differently: even when there are no minerals left, you still mine some (6?) minerals ------------------------ I would NOT recommend pet bot. He's usefull but too situational I use construction (repair) bot only in quickstart - I think it's useless in survival. I would not recommend it bcs of this "Rambo" bot (forgot name, the meelee one) might be good when upgraded with speed aoe (and maybe damage). With every attack he has very high knockback so he could be good at defending mine shafts becouse he'll just throw enemies away. He's very good when there are lots of enemies and even better when they are in group so he does not have to hover to knockbacked enemy. He's the best one to distract enemies Shield bot is good - I use jetpack instead of stimpack since this update and when I have low health, I switch to stimpack (regen) and shield bot (no damage). But he's still situational so I would not recommend And the remaining 2 which are pretty good - If I were you, I would buy one of these: Future bot is imo very good at hunting enemies and he's better than attack bot in complex bases becouse he can teleport through obstacles. You should upgrade damage and AOE Attack bot is very good at guarding areas (mine shafts,...) (Rambo bot needs more testing). You should upgrade ROF and damage
Great thanks. I didn't even notice that the mineral deposits reduced overtime. Got to pay attention to that now So Future or Attack? Now I got to decide. What weapon does the future bot use?
