    Thanks for the info Marcus, I look forward to whatever updates you guys come up with.

    I've always appreciated the quality of their games, but never been interested in the gameplay of the others. Love this one, though. I'm in the fourth world now, and I do wish the challenge level were a bit higher. Even so, this is just a joy to play.

    You mean to tell me that Superbrothers and Spider: Secret of Bryce Manor Hd is on page second list?! I have GOT to see your next pages (even via PM).

    Awesome title BTW not sure if worth 4.99, few games are worth more then 2.99 in my book, but maybe it's cause I'm used to the iPhone prices :)
    Waking Mars for example is one of the few I can say that IS worth 4.99 and maybe Shadowgun.

    We were very happy that we got Editors Choice.


    We thought that the game center achievements would be enough. So we have not discussed it more.

    But as I said before we have made no plans so it could be that we look over game center implementation if we see a need for it.

    We are not so fond over adding a "Please rate our app"-popup since we think it distracts from the game experience.

    But if you like Blast-A-Way it would be great if you could give it a good review :)

    Dude you cant be serious!? Anyone who has 3 angry birds games in their top 20 loses all credibility instantaneously.


    This games graphics sort of remind me of the ps classic "team buddies". It's a shame there's nothing like TB on iOS. It's brilliant.
    Planning on picking it up soon..maybe tomorrow. Might wait for app spy to review it first, not entirely sure if it's my cup of tea, though the graphics are gorgeous and the filesize is great, reasonable price. Seems like a no brainer but I don't feel like deleting stuff tonight (0mbs remaining)

    Holy hell. I didn't even know 4 AB games existed, surely he must be employed in marketing for rovio.
    He couldn't be seriously be serious..? could he.
    What is this world coming to.

    I didn't even click the thumbnail, I could already see the little red icon so didn't bother. I already thought it was weird enough posting a screenshot of the icon on here anyway..almost like he was trying to PROVE he really bought the game, like it was an accomplishment or something clicking "buy".

    Jeje I have the 4 games, deleted them all over time, Space being the last one, and all the clones too. Dark ages when I didnt know what to look for :p

    And for me this game has entered my non-endless Top10 games :)

    Yes to Angry Birds - the games stay on my phone because the are constantly updated with new content. Brilliant, IMHO.

    Labrynth by Illusion Labs seems to depend on user-generated content and this approach fails for many of us who only want AAA quality updates to quality games.

    Hope this helps - that was my intention :)

    Regardless, you have some games that I consider gems: Gesundheit, World of Goo and Plants VS Zombies... then Contre Jour and both Cut the Ropes

    Difficulty is definitely ramping up in the stone set. I've got one level I haven't figured out how to rescue everyone in just yet.

    This game is absolutely beautiful, exactly the sort of aesthetic perfection that I am always looking for has met what the first trailer for. Was a day one buy from me with its reasonable pricetag. Furthermore, the gameplay is nice an relaxed, with logic being the dominating mechanic of the game. It merely needs a few more features to make it truly perfect:

    1.) In-app level editors and downloads (kinda like labyrinth 2) with all game mechanics for all themes, thus we would need some new block likely to have a bomb teleported in the wood levels for example. Also, optional online level editor on computers are a option, but in app is most preferable. The feature is crucial though for unlimited gameplay value.

    2.) New bonus "challenge" levels utilizing all game features that are unlocked through different worlds, regardless of theme. This the 16 extra wood levels would still have bomb teleporters and rebuilding bombs, etc. Also, the challenge levels would have "Easter egg" type finds like a gold sprocket/gear that unlocks special bonus levels that can be themed or mixed material.

    3.) Offline game achievements with banners. This isn't necessary but game net hasn't been working on my iPad3, and nice banner achievements r always nice to look at.

    4.) Possible new characters, optional, but before I had the impression there might have been a pink robot character or a green one. It would just be a bit interesting. Building custom robot characters would be cool too.

    5.) New themes and textures! Stuff like white porcelain with colours such as rainbow-tie dye for standard, and multi-shade blues, greens, pinks, reds, yellows, purples, and oranges for blocks would be nice. Also, all these colours in general would be nice for future expansions to themes. In addition, mirror like blocks, 'matte blocks' and 'organic blocks' could be cool themes but not necessary.

    Anyways, this game has easily entered my top 5 list of games with all it's features, it just would be nice to have a few more epic extras, wallpapers would be nice too:D.

    Wow, allot of ppl giving this game allot of merit, I'm gonna buy it myself now. *But ya I agree, anyone who has AB in their top 20 knows nothing right, cause nobody has AB on their their phone* (sarcasm)

    Definitely enjoying this one A LOT! The graphics are great. I love the whole Portal vibe. AAaaaaaaaaaaaand... I'm actually pretty surprised it's running on my 4th gen touch without any problems. Great stuff! =oD

    Physics-puzzlers. Just saying the words can make some gamers cringe. Over the last few years, the AppStore has been overrun with the genre. But recently, we’ve been seeing this genre expand, bringing some life back into the bland and repetitive physics puzzler. Great examples of this are Band Together, Pebble Universe, GasketBall, Chicken Raid, Sola Rola, Splash!, Follow the Rabbit and Draw Breaker, among more. Well, adding to this list, and jumping up to the very top of it is a development company that has been around the AppStore for a while now; Illusion Labs (developers of Sway, Touchgrind BMX, Labyrinth 2 and more). Their new title, Blast-A-Way, is a sort of mix between iBlast Moki 2, Plight of the Zombie, Gesundheit and even a bit of Portal.

    Blast-A-Way has you controlling three robots who are trying to collect little creatures known as Boxies, who happened to be blown all over their world when a freak accident happened while climbing Sticky Bomb Monument. Armed with nothing but the bombs that are scattered throughout the world, it’s up to you to bring the Boxies home.
    You’ll start off in the Wood World, where, surprise, everything is made of wood. As you collect Boxies, the other worlds open up, letting you move on even if you haven’t completed all of the previous world’s levels. There are 5 separate worlds, each with 16 levels, and all having different environmental looks. After the Wood World, you’ll move on to Metal Mania, Fabric Fanatic, Stone Supreme and end with Plastic Paranoia. Like so many other games before it, Blast-A-Way has a 3 ‘star’ ranking, which is determined by how many Boxies you’re able to collect in each stage. With 80 levels, and 240 Boxies to collect, Blast-A-Way will keep you busy for quite some time.

    Using the bombs that are laid out in each stage, you’ll need to blow up certain bricks that are either holding Boxies, holding different types of bombs or blocking your way to the level’s exit. There are multiple bombs that you’ll come across while progressing through the game, like a Contact Bomb, which blows up on contact, a Sticky Bomb, which sticks to any surface, a Transport Bomb that teleports you wherever it lands, a Rebuilding Bomb that reconstructs broken bricks and more. Each of these bombs are only compatible with bricks of the same color. That means that if you throw a blue Sticky Bomb onto a green surface, none of the green surface will be destroyed. But if there’s a blue brick right next to the green surface, it will get blown to bits. There are also different colored force field type objects that, when a bomb is thrown through them, the bomb changes color. All of this thrown in makes for some very interesting and unique level designs, and with the very well thought out puzzles that litter the game, it gets to be very entertaining, as well as challenging.

    The controls are designed to fit the touch screen; tap on a robot and draw a line to move them, to pick up or change bombs, simply walk over them, to rotate the screen, drag anywhere outside of the level’s platforms, to scroll the level, drag on the level’s platforms, and to move the level up and down, touch two fingers on the screen and drag either up or down. You can also zoom in and out by pinching the screen, and double tapping on an object will give you a better view of it. To throw bombs, you just tap on the object you want to hit, and hold down. A gauge will pop up, determining the angle that you’ll throw the bomb at the object, either straight at it, or by tossing it up and over other objects.

    Graphically, Blast-A-Way looks great. The minimal look of everything is very reminiscent of Portal, and with each world having a different look, there’s a big splash of Illusion Labs own touch thrown in for good measure. The robots look like they were designed by Pixar, and the sound effects fit this as well. The soundtrack fit’s the game well enough, however, having some more down tempo/ambient tracks would have done a better job at setting the mood.

    GameCenter is supported, but there are no leaderboards. This isn’t surprising, considering there’s no time-limits or scoring system to be found within the game either. There are 7 achievements, with the one that will take the longest being ‘rescure 240 Boxies’. Some more creativity with the achievements, and a scoring or timing system would have added quite a bit of replay value to the game, even after getting all 3 Boxies in each stage, and hopefully we’ll see something like this added in the future. It’s kind of disappointing that a game with this much polish doesn’t include these. However, it’s still a great buy, even priced at $4.99. It’s price point is no real surprise. Illusion Lab’s games are basically all priced the same, and with Blast-A-Way being Universal, and the very, VERY rare sales that Illusion Labs has shows that they have faith in their products. And they should. There is not one Illusion Labs title that I have been disappointed with yet. If you’re looking for something that will get you back into the Physics-Puzzler genre, look no further. Blast-A-Way contains an insane amount of polish, is incredibly entertaining, and will have you hooked after the first 5 levels.

    Great review man but one last question before I buy. Does it feel right with the iPod touch screen? I realize it would definitely be better with more screen estate but is it suited to the smaller touch screen of an iPod?

    Or just simply. Does it feel good on your iPod? :D
