Just played the game until end of 6th chapter. After killing the sherrif at this time the Game crashes all the time on my ipad2. My short review: The game is very easy. I finished it (i assume end of chapter 6 is the end?) in 3 hours without even dying once. When you get the regenerate card you will not even need something else.so all other bell & whistles of the game are no sense. Why we need items & cards i can't understand... It is repetitive. All the same again and again. Fighting is not good. Just press keys and you are ok, no need even to block. Graphics are ok but gameplay is not. Too limited and basic. My rating 2/5 at most. I had more fun and challenge with games like cut the rope or mikey shorts.
I'm halfway through chapter 3 on sick and I have yet to upgrade my health and spirit. I have full stopping power, and it's enough to do decent damage on enemies with enough knock back to keep them from attacking you. Its also great for interrupting enemy attacks from some of the weaker guys. Id recommend it.
Nice graphics, I love the game love the game nice job on this game 5/5 I have a question will there be a diffrence in the tegra virsion for graphics or will it look the same?
It'll probably look the same as the iPad 2 version; the only additions to the game would probably be physics related, seeing as how the tegra 3 is about as powerful as the A5 chip in the GPU department.
Nice! Yeah, Stopping Power is an awesome upgrade. I don't use the gun as much as I probably should, but it makes a huge difference exactly for what you said, knocking enemies back and interrupting attacks. Brett @kerosenegames kerosenegames.com
Thanks, TicTac! We're hoping to bring you Ep.2 (full length game, just like this one with hours of play.) ASAP. It took nearly 2 years to make Ep.1, though, so it might be a little while. We also have some cool stuff in mind to extend and expand Ep.1. Just wait! Brett @kerosenegames kerosenegames.com
Kudos to the dev It's refreshing to see dev participation on the forum like this. As a long time IB afficinado I wish Chair would do the same thing.
Interesting question, cabdog. If Indie means small, scrappy, and not walking in the door wearing money hats... we're DEFINITELY Indie We started Kerosene with the goal of helping friendly game developers with big ambitions and a willingness to take some risk (like Luma Arcade) do a better job of getting noticed in the App Store. We want to help design games that make gaming a deeper and more satisfying experience on touchscreen / mobile devices. Right now, Kerosene is just 4 people (and not all full-timers). We have no VC money or other large investors. We're just people that love great games, happen to be in San Francisco, which is geographically advantageous when it comes to promoting games. It's also nice to be close to Apple Likewise, Luma Arcade is totally Indie. The team are all hardcore game nerds who live, eat, breath mobile games and who manage to develop great games like Bladeslinger while coordinating efforts between a core team in Johannesburg, a few folks on the West Cost USA (Portland and Las Vegas), and other awesome individuals from all over (the UK, New York state, etc.). Making a game like Bladeslinger, for this studio, was (and still is) a HUGE financial risk. It's the first game the team has shipped since late 2010! Nearly all the time after that has been devoted to Bladeslinger, which has been exceptionally challenging given the detail of the characters, the world, and new territory explored on the control design. All that risk may not pay off commercially. I guess we're all OK with that. We knew this going in. But regardless, I'm very proud of all the team has accomplished on the design front, and although it's not perfect (as many have pointed out), but we feel it was a great big stride forward for the action genre, and a pretty incredible achievement with the visual quality as well. Yes, the characters' mouths don't move when they speak, and not ALL the animations are console quality, but for my taste, it's the prettiest game on the market AND the most layered & visceral for an action game. FWIW, the entire team has followed feedback from the TouchArcade community since day 1. We take it all to heart, the praise and the criticism. Being an indie game developer and putting a game like this out there into the world after working on it for nearly two years is a heart-wrenching and exciting moment. And yes, the one-star reviews (largely knee-jerk reaction to any IAP at all, and some reactions to the steeper-than-normal learning curve on the controls) hurt. We're really hoping that, especially for you guys who took the time to learn the controls and are now enjoying the game, you'll consider rating & reviewing the game on the App Store. Right now, this is probably the biggest thing stopping people from trying the game, is that the reviews look somewhat mixed. We (the developers) aren't at all ignoring the flaws or weaknesses in the current version, and we're working feverishly to incorporate this community's feedback to balance the game better, making the learning curve on the controls more gradual, and yes, even add an optional camera control vpad for those who want it. But if you want to support true Indie developers who might have taken on a bit too much, but truly love games and want to move mobile games forward by embracing some risk, that's us. 100% If you like (or love!), Bladeslinger, we really hope you tell your friends about it. It's not an easy game, or a simple game, but we think if you take the time to get to know it, you'll love it Brett @kerosenegames kerosenegames.com
Really? May I ask if they are physics related? I want under the impression that the tegra 3 chip is about as powerful as the A5 chip, while lagging very far behind the A6 and A6X generation chipsets.
Game Impressions So, finally downloaded this bad boy, aaaand... O_O Prediction? A year from now, when other developers catch up, a bunch of us are going to be saying, "Remember when we all used to love DSSs, you know, before someone figured out what the touchscreen on an iDevice was actually capable of?" Again, 20 minutes into playing, O_O. Full disclosure, I currently stink at this game. The controls are going to take a minute to fully grasp, implement, and appreciate. But when I DO get them locked in? Oh my. Oh my oh my oh my... I'll post more later, but for anyone on the fence? Get this game, if only to witness what's coming next to iDevices, and to be able to say you were there first later on... I'm a little concerned regarding the IAP situation, but by the sounds of what I've read so far in this thread, I would suspect that getting the controls locked in and judiciously buying and using power-ups might be the solution? More later, but for now, well, you know. tl;dr? Get. This. Game. DBC
Yeah I'd definitely say this gets much more fun with more different moves and options unlocked. Blademaster v2 makes the sword much more worthwhile to use, because you get finishers that can knock down enemies and buy you time, as does stopping power which actually makes the gun useful. But about Ep 2, are you guys planning on making that a separate app? I'd actually rather just pay for an IAP that will add it on to the end of episode 1, that way I won't need two separate apps. Plus, I'll be able to play the whole story all the way through with the same character. PS: I love how active all the devs are in this forum. It's not often that we get so much attention from devs like this, especially with such a high quality game. Thanks for listening, I know we're tough critics sometimes but I hope you can use our feedback to improve the game in the end!
was waiting for this one but was a bit worry about the IAP heavy criticism that I've read so far and the poor controls but bought it to see by myself. Many complained about the camera controls (2 fingers) and indeed on the iphone with the forefinger and the middle finger, there's nothing much left to see. on the iPad, this might not be the case. But if you use your thumbs on each side of the phone, it works pretty well without hiding the main screen. As for the combats, I did buy the second wind but I have no idea when And how I am supposed to use it. my health is already very low after the third fight so I hope the IAP demon is not going to make this game a disaster as I've been quite enjoying it so far.
with second wind, when your spirit is full you'll see an icon flashing blue in the top left corner. Pressing this will slow time and open a menu at the bottom of the screen, from which you can select the second wind card
Finished Plagued mode Chapter 5 in Plagued is the most difficult part (20 mins to kill about 40-50 zombies, including traveling time through the mine). Even with maxed out stats, you'll need to have a strategy (what skill/potion combination to use) or you will fall short of the time limit. After that Chap 6 is a breeze. Hopefully they unlock Corrupt mode with the next update.
Wanna bet? The Tegra 3 version will be better than the iPad 4 version bar the Retina quality rendering since most tegra tablets are just 1280x800. I can imagine water effects, and advanced lighting and particle effects. Just like Shadowgun THD which blows away anything I have seen to date. Maybe some destructible objects in the environment too.
But its usefulness is undermined by the fact that you more than most often won't be able to attack the second enemy off screen, which makes everything pointless as you wait for a few seconds for the enemy to get up. I personally regret getting to LVL 2 of the upgrade for this very reason.
Nay, it definitely isn't. I'd say nVidia doesn't "pay" them per se, but helps a lot in terms of tech provided during the making of the game, and will also market the game for them FoC on Android...so as a thank you gesture (like many other games such as Dark Meadow, Horn, BBB, Riptide GP and Shadowgun) they'll include a little more eye candy.
