This is just one aspect of the game. So by rating one star based only on the controls you are saying the rest of the game visuals, story,.... And all is only worth one star. That's a perfect way to turn people away from a great game. So, even if the controls were bad, which they are not, and you like the rest of the game. Wouldn't you want the controls fixed? Yes, okay why turn the masses away with your one star rating? Giving the devs less money and no reason to "fix" it??????????
I just have to repeat what someone else said about the health card, second wind or something. It was the first thing i unlocked (3 green bits?) and it really completely eliminates the need for health potions. I havent used a single one after the tutorial. If anything the game is too easy. Just do random stuff with your finger until he's either dazed or your health is low, kill him or use card, repeat. Woever says this is freemium is totally off and must not have looked into this game very much. That said the graphics and production values are off the hook. So glad to see games like this on ios.
Goodness gracias, even I'm getting weary of your comments. Please, you made your point, so give it a rest
Hi mate, to beat the barman you get his health down below one bar and when he's dazed use two finger swipe upwards then draw finishing moves, this works on the other creatures to,good luck.
I'm cool with how defred34 feels about the game. Guess it just isn't his type (you can't make games that please everyone). I'm kinda curious though, defred you once said during beta that Dead Trigger looks better. Do you still share the same opinion? I bought the game yesterday and I think the devs did an amazing job. Heck I think they just built the best looking mobile game out there. I'd even rate it above a lot of 360/ps3 games and think it could even pass as a high end PC game. Dead Trigger looked nice but to me, this one is way better in the visuals department.
Thanks for being so civil mate. I think ultimately, with the water simulation, water droplets and volumetric fog in Dead Trigger, it is more advanced, and therefore better. But yeah, Bladeslinger has got the RTS. If you're talking purely about the visuals only minus all other effects, they are *probably* on par. I may just lean towards Bladeslinger here because the surroundings are brighter and more vivid than DT. But its a coin toss between the two really. Regarding my comments during the Beta, what I implied was that the graphics in BS is nothing "special" anymore. Shadowgun THD (the Android Tegra 3 version) which was released over a year ago is still the benchmark to me. And I'm pretty stumped because with so much of advancement, no game has come to beat it visually in 12 months!!
Visually this game is much more impressive than any Madfinger game. I'm surprised that anyone would try and compare the two. This one is running at full retina with realtime shadows and dynamic shadow casting on the character, something that I've never seen in a mobile game. And all at a smooth framerate.
Really? Play more mobile game dudes. Quite a few have had real time shadows on characters. Lili had it (and there could be up to 6/7 characters on-screen and RTS would still work flawlessly). I can't recall of others, but I know there are more. Madfinger's only weakness is the lack of RTS.
So controls preferences, iAP and graphic comparisons aside, how do people actually find the gameplay?
If you at all knew me you wouldn't tell me to "play more games" that's what I'm trying to cut back on. And about other things Madfinger doesn't include...how about realtime shadow casting on characters? They only use primitive shader effects. Also their games have very little particle effects. And finally, the graphics are very repetitive and the same assets are used over and over. Not so with this game. I gave the game another chance and found it a lot of fun. The controls are still very awkward and cumbersome, but I'm going to try and complete the game anyway. Plus the fact that this is the best looking iOS game on the AppStore bar none doesn't hurt. This literally has all the graphical effects of a console plus the unbelievably eye meltingly good looking retina graphics. It just looks beautiful and the framerate is very good indeed. Buy if you have an A6 device, and I think A5 should run this fine, too. Just beware the controls and the IAP.
Gameplay is great as controls, iap is totaly optional. Great game! Finished it 2 times, and playing it again
Ok, so after my initial frustration, I am giving this game another go. I still hold that the controls suck, but I'll play through nonetheless since I've paid money, and am interested to see if there's more enemies and visual settings (if there aren't I'd be disappointed!!!). BUT, now I'm in the middle of chapter two, and have reached a point where my money cannot get me another potion, and I keep on dying. Mind you, I've played my share of hardcore action games on mobile, but this is above all mighty irritating. Seems like what you have to do is dodge a lot, and not fun really. I can see that many people (especially those new to this kind of games) will end up in a similar situation, and will be "forced" to spend on IAPs. I hope the devs and others users can respond to this and lemme know if anyone else is in a similar position. PS: I played the beta which had the same first two chapters, and I didn't have trouble finishing that in just one play through w/o dying. Clearly the difficulty was ramped up (mind you, this is just level one out of four!) to encourage IAPs. ***Are there only 6 chapters? To the devs, when will episode 2 come out? After playing a bit more, I think this should just be free considering you're all out into IAPs. And speaking of free, I can take a bet with anyone here this will go free by years end...if not March 2013 latest. The writing's on the wall...
Gotta Love GAME STOPPING DEFECTS! Right here with you; exact same thing.. I am normally pretty good at video games; this one, due to the ramp-up on getting used to the controls, has me dying pretty darn quickly; as in, before I even got to the main part of town I kept dying. I have used new touch controls on games before, but I'm sorry devs, these are some of the worse I've ever used. So, I kept getting my rear kicked to the point that I went through the one potion I was granted from the beginning, and now needed another one, WITHOUT ENOUGH GOLD TO BUY ANOTHER ONE. Like, already, this soon in the game. IAP MUCH?? DEFECT: I get to the main gate entrance and the enemies atop the gate start throwing the rocks at me. Considering two fingers are used for 3 things (dodge, block, punch), I react incorrectly and I keep getting hits and die again. I load up the game again, heart beating like I'm about to die, and ENEMIES ON THE GATE DON'T SHOW again! I reboot the games several times without luck. I then go back to the first little shed/house you encounter, struggle several times again to finally beat them multiple times to get enough gold and buy a remedy. I go back to the gate and brace to fight the zombie things on top of the gate entrance, and they NEVER SHOW!! They were triggered intially right when I reached the end of the bridge, but ever since I died the first time, I don't encounter them again, and I can't figure out how to open the gate. I reboot my the game, and even my device, and I'm still at a dead standstill at the gate. So, testing...When testing you don't test to pass the game criteria, you test it to try and break it. That didn't happen here, and this game was rush released, as it shows in sooo many other ways. Oh, the visuals are good, but Lili has this game beat.
^Just to clarify Cabdog, the problem with me dying is not really the controls. It's more due to the "unfairness" of the game in the way the monsters are designed, the amount of life they have and the fact they gang up on you from two sides with you not being able to react to them both. Now I'm thinking the core of the game is just wrong. Balance, strength, health, gold drop, IAPs, controls...man this game is a convergence of everything that can go wrong with a game, pretty much. Graphics aside, there's nothing here. PS: I'm holding out and am curious to see how the major iOS sites review this game. I'm gonna be guessing some 5/5 and some 2/5 (from Touchgen and TA maybe).
I totally agree and could have clarified better; one on one fights, I fair pretty good at but when there are more than one...
First up, I suck at this game. Like a lot of people i die all the time and can't get very far without health potions etc. But I have noticed that you need to block a lot and the timing is really important. Slide To Play loved the controls so I'm gonna stick with it and practice instead of blaming the game. It's definitely challenging but you probably just need to get the hang of it. That's not a criticism of anyone. I feel your pain. This game is tough (!) but it's probably a steep learning curve.
Wow, lotta hate over the controls and difficulty. I was leary reading over the comments but went in and glad I did. I think the controls are great, and are already pretty intuitive after the 2nd chapter. I don't have the combos figured out yet tho. I will go so far as to say that the controls on this game are a leap forward for touch screens. It really affords more possibilities so anyone reading this on the fence, I would say go for it and embrace it. Some are saying this is Iap heavy. I don't think so for a couple reasons: You can re-enter rooms to easily grind, or replay old chapters. You can get infinite heal or regen early on so you aren't buying tons of healing potions You can use feats for acquiring skills instead of money (tho spirit stones are tougher to come by) This is only the first episode so,I am not expecting to be fully powered by the end. Skill is really big factor. Maybe the diffiulty is a little hard and can use some tweaks, but I think a strategy guide would help and be more satisfying. Like when you are 2on 1 or fighting the bar boss, dodge before their attack, get some room so you don't have one behind you. Blocking is great when you aren't sure how to roll out because it will even cover attacks behind you. Shoot when you can. Take advantage of the finishing moves because the other guy can't hit you during it. Speaking of finishing moves, devs, it would have been nice to have some warning that you have to kill the bosses with finishing moves. So yea, maybe a little more tutorial on the two on 1 strategies. Kudos to the devs for bringing in the two on one and so many other things. The battles are a rewarding experience...and will develop some new muscles I can tell! Any word on when to expect the armor? Or is that going to be skins. Armor please
Man, even the president can vote for himself in the election, AND tweet about it. Now, fraud is something else and you should be careful throwing that around. Not go all Fox News on this. "I wonder if you even (insert insult here)" because these devsespecially compared to many othersobviously put a lot of work, thought, creativity and a ton of time into it. They are real people putting their stuff out there and there are so many other games that are obviously hacks and shill reviews.
Yeah I'd rather see a developer openly vote for their own game than a multitude of fake accounts set up. By using their name in the first place shows they weren't trying to hide anything.
