You should brush up on confirmation bias. Just because you don't pirate apps, or belong to a specific community that disapproves of piracy doesn't negate Eli's statement. Pirates tend to run their own reddits and message boards. iOS piracy is huge, just take a look at statistics from Monument Valley and Punch Club for instance.Cracking apps in the first place (ie, removing the DRM) requires an app that runs on jailbroken devices. IAP crackers for jailbroken devices are rampant, even if you put aside the "Pirate AppStore" app for jailbroken devices. So, whether you like it or not, jailbreaking is central to iOS piracy, even though it's not the only method.
What is "it"? I don't see a way to view previous versions of posts to find out what you are talking about.
A jailbreak tweak called Ah! Ah! Ah! that plays a sound clip from Jurassic Park when an incorrect passcode is entered.
My comments: People are cheap and any amount of money is always too much for some: "$20.00 is too much, it should be $10.00" If it's $10.00... "$10.00 is too much, it should be $5.00" If it's $5.00... "$5.00 is too much, it shou.... etc. If you're on a budget and can't afford it and are reading this from a dusty computer in a public library with free internet I agree, this is pricey If "this is too pricey" for you as you read this on your MacBook, laptop or several hundred dollar smart phone you need to re-evaluate your financial priorities Jail breaking facilitates Piracy I will not be buying this because the game doesn't appeal to me in the least but I'm glad it's made people's year when we're only 2 weeks into January For those on the fence, watch some YouTube videos or read some actual reviews because the info you are looking for to make an informed decision is not in this thread.
You guys who are complaining that the trailer sucks and you don't know if it's worth $15... just... look at a review. Literally, there's tons of steam reviews for it...
That was my point exactly. I can sympathize with people that can't afford the game. However, it is bizarre when people find it expensive when spending hundreds of dollars on hardware and more on other things that are not essential. It is $15.00 for potential many hours of fun. If the persons likes the game, it is an awesome deal. Expecting the game for $1.00 is unrealistic and even greedy, since much work was put into the game. If people are putting the game almost for free on iOS, because people won't pay higher, it is a problem, because we are loosing potential awesome games that might be coming otherwise. Considering the user-base of mobile, if people are willing to spend, we could be having the next-best AAA best being developed primarily for mobile. Instead, we get the next generic endless run. People complain, but we get what we deserve as consummers.
Plays a video when someone tries to unlock your device unsuccessfully. You can use any video, not just the default Jurassic Park clip
Eli's claim that the vast majority of jailbreakers are pirates is a baseless and unprovable generalization, and only serves to give a bad name to something good because some people do "bad" things with it.
It's funny I made a comment earlier as to how the iOS port costs 25% more then the PC version here in Canada and it got moved here. I have no issue paying premium prices however the controls (seems 50/50) make a game enjoyable and at a higher price then the original I wanted to make sure. TBH it's sad that toucharcade thinks everyone that questions prices is in the "OMG! This should be $1!!" group.
Exactly. The market is what it is. Low cost of entry + an audience of hundreds of millions = more developers releasing more games = more competition = lower prices. I would definitely appreciate more AAA releases on iOS, but personally feel like this particular game isn't worth $20 CAD in this market. I suspect the price is exceptionally high only because of the hype (being rejected, lots of publicity).
Wasn't your comment specifically, was the comment you replied to which was part of the off topic argument.
Define "hype." This is one of the most critically acclaimed games on desktop, selling with all the exact same content and for the same exact price on mobile. What does "hype" have to do with the pricing strategy?
I seriously don't understand the whole burying your head in the sand thing and insisting that jailbreaking doesn't have anything to do with piracy. We saw the same thing back when console mod chips, flash carts, and other grey-area hardware were going mainstream, people would get their feathers all ruffled and argue with you until they were red in the face that mod chips are for removing region locks to play Japanese imports and their flash carts were just for playing backups of their own legally purchased games. And, you know what? I'm sure there's a few people out there who bought an R4 for their DS who only loaded ROMs on it that they extracted themselves for their own cartridges, but the R4 didn't get cloned by every Chinese manufacturer in existence and sent to North American and European markets by the 40' shipping container because of the mass-market need to back up your cartridges (has a DS cart ever failed, necessitating a backup?)... It exploded in popularity because you could download the entire DS ROM set in 15 minutes and load every game ever released on to a $20 micro SD card. Going back further in time, same thing was true for PlayStation mod chips. Yes, I'm sure that there's a few people out there who installed a mod chip on their PlayStation so they could play some obscure RPG they paid tons of money to get shipped from Japan, but again, you're fooling yourself if you think PSX mod chips giving birth to a whole industry of modding services and different mod chip options were so people could play Japan-exclusive iterations of DDR. That industry sprang up overnight because someone figured out a way you could go to Blockbuster, rent a game for $3, press a button to rip it to your computer, and another button to burn it to a CD-R. Hell, if you had two optical drives you could do both things at the same time. Jailbreak is no different. I don't dispute that there's a community of passionate people who want to reskin their phone's UI, have it randomly say Jurassic Park quotes, and other tweaks that aren't possible with stock iOS. You're seriously, seriously fooling yourself, however, if you don't think outside of those community that jailbreak is a wild world of rampant piracy. Hell, there's a ####ing kiosk at my mall that installs screen protectors, swaps batteries, and jailbreaks iPhones. Their sales pitch includes all the shit you can get for free.
You get what you pay for. BOI is not only a quality product but is packed to the brim with content unlike games like Mario Run which has the quality but little quantity. Nobody should be surprised at people who would shell that much money for games like these, it's simple. The dev's need to eat, and people want more great premium games like these and less pokemon go/ flappy bird crap. Yes there are some amazing games for $5 or less, but again I doubt they have the depth, production value and content as a full blown $10-$20 game But everybody has their own financial status, budget and gaming goals. To me Mobile gaming has replaced dedicated handheld consoles like 3DS and PS Vita, so I have no problem shelling out $10 -$20 for good quality/lots of content games like this, implosion, Square Enix games etc.
Console piracy *required* mod chips, iOS piracy does not require being jailbroken. In fact if all you want to do is pirate software it's easier at this point not to bother with jailbreaking at all. I'm not denying that many people who are jailbroken pirate things, but many people who are not also pirate things. One is not a requirement for the other. I just don't see the need for such aggressive characterizations of jailbreakers. Jailbreaking is simply elevating your priveledges to admin on your device, same as your PC. You wouldn't say everyone who has admin access to their PC is a rampant pirate would you? PS Ah!Ah!Ah! is just a silly tweak. The possibilities are endless when you have full control of your device. I use my iPhone as my main computer because I can with root access. It's now a general purpose pocket supercomputer which is something everyone should enjoy not be scared off because they're told it equates to something nefarious
Kinda not comparing apples to apples. Having admin privileges on your computer is normal... in fact it's a factory setting, you don't have to do anything. You're wanting access to something you're not supposed to have access to and must "jailbreak" to obtain.
