Did you try the new hard levels? Bomblosium was quite hard for my average skills :)

More rubbish checkpoints! Still no "restart from the beginning" button!

    Great update guys!

Don't cry because you suck at this game. And hopefully the devs don't start implementing features that only one person wants. I'd way rather have it the way it is, with the restart from checkpoint button on the main screen then retry when you pause. Far more logical

I have absolutely no idea what my skill at the game would have to do with badly designed checkpoints and an utterly stupid restart system. If you have any proper points to make, do make them.

Well, you did get one thing right there. It IS a great update.

Regarding checkpoints... they are frustrating, but by design. That's how we are supposed to play this game.

They're only frustrating by design if the dev hasn't got the slightest clue what a checkpoint is for, and only included them because Trials HD had them and so they should probably have them in their game, too. They're designed badly. Checkpoints have one, and only one, very specific function. They're to allow a player to complete a section and then be able to move on to the next section. That's all they're for. Bike Baron gets them so unbelievably wrong that I would be very surprised if the dev had any idea what they were for at all.

If they're specifically trying to frustrate people through crap game design, they really need to ask themselves why they're in the game development industry, an industry in which the products you make are supposed to be fun, not frustrating.

Sure, there are frustrating games, like Super Meat Boy for example, but Super Meat Boy isn't frustrating because Team Meat designed it badly specifically to annoy people. It's just a hard game. When Bike Baron is frustrating it isn't frustrating because it's hard, it's frustrating because it's poorly made, and that's a huge difference.

Totally agree. I have stopped the game before the update (with easy and medium 100% finished, and 40% in hard) because I had no fun to begin 300 times the same section and hoping to succeed because of the chance.

I have tried a new time with this update, but there is no change. No fun, just frustration (and it's the same with Xtreme Wheels).

Dynastunts is more casual, perhaps with less content (25 tracks). But the tracks are fun, very fun, always fun. And if we want to battle in the leaderboards, the game is more hardcore, but we have the choice to play in casual or in hardcore mode.

While I love this game, I do agree that the devs had made a very poor choice in quite a few checkpoints. What is the purpose of a checkpoint literally 2 ft inside the start? Is it only there to make you use the stupid restart feature which pushes the limits of dexterity on a ipad? Want to restart the level? here push a button in the very upper right corner, then push one in the center? wtf who came up with that?

So yeah while this is easily one of my top 5 games on ios, the devs really missed the point, with the checkpoints, and they need a better restart feature.

Thanks for the feedback guys! We did get in touch with you using PM to get more information about what you think is not working well in the game etc.

If you tell us that the checkpoints are just crap, that's not really helping us to improve the game ;) Good critique is a constructive critique. We want to understand why you think something is wrong so we can find ways how to improve the game. We made the game for you to have fun! We spent months and loads of sleepless nights tweaking and building the game, arguing over every small detail, going over thing many many times and doing the best we can to bring you awesome game ;)

We are already working on next update and will bring you more info later on! Still deciding what to include in it and also trying some experimental new stuff :)

Thanks for all your support and keep it coming, it really helps us to bring you more awesome stuff! ;)

I'm still trying to figure out how the restart system is "utterly stupid". I think the restart system is adequate. Is it that you want the on-screen Retry button to restart from the beginning of the level? I could see folks wanting that capability when going for a perfect run. I know I've wanted that at times. But hitting Pause->Retry really isn't that bad. I've played a speedrunning game where you actually had to quit the level and go back to the Level Select screen to restart a level -- now that was bad design.

However, there have been times that I'm glad the on-screen Retry button is a "Restart from last checkpoint". I'd be pissed if I made it past the Dragon's Teeth, only to press that button and restart at the beginning of the level. So having to hit Pause first makes you think about what you're doing. :)

To anyone reading this thread, this game is absolutely phenomenal. It is 5 stars all day long if you love these types of games. That said, even when checkpoints are in a less than optimal locations, previous hyperbole aside, they aren't a deal breaker by any means. So if you are on the fence because of what you read in this thread, keep in mind, the complaints about the restart feature and the checkpoints are essentially wanting the game to be perfect (my self included), they are not because the game is broken or because they make the game unplayable.

my level - check it out

    Hey guys,

I figured i'd do a different type of level, i've named it "Perfect Wheelie" with the code ARRP

apart from what the level suggests, the only tip i am giving away is don't stand still :)

shouldn't take any longer than 10-20 goes to complete

let me know if you like it and i have 100 gazillion other ideas

I know what checkpoint you are talking about. And that one I am convinced is a joke. I knew I was confused as hell when after a fairly good run I had clocked some massive 50 seconds, because I was actually starting after the checkpoint instead of the start where the clock could reset to zero. I could literally picture the dev's face saying "gotcha" (I sort of pictured that bar-tender in the game saying that)

Apart from that, the only bad checkpoint is the first one in Dragon's teeth. You basically fall and hit the checkpoint. Not much point. But I almost always get to the 2nd checkpoint without having to restart at the 1st checkpoint so not much of an issue.

Lastly, I reallllllly wish there were a checkpoint in JC3 after the bomb bridge (don't know if there's one after the update) and the second set of teeth in Dragon's teeth (Hell this level is). But that would have made the level easier than what it's supposed to be. THAT is design.

I do not think there are any other check points which are bad or inadequately placed. If anyone (I am not saying "you") wants Extreme Wheels sort of checkpoints where you can finish a level by simply crashing through it... have nothing to say to them really.

You're having your revenge by keeping a bunch of us sleepless now.

Anyways, a suggestion on the restart button. On the ipod/iphone a pause and restart button doesn't hurt much. On iPad it is massively cumbersome. So on iPad if you could have a restart level button around pause (but sufficiently far away) it'd be of great help.

Have a separate post regarding checkpoints.

On a different note, The game looks marvelous on iPad2! It honestly looks like an animated feature film. I seem to be clocking better times there. If, and when, you implement iCloud synching across devices, if I have played a level both on iPad and iPod, which time will be registered as the best time for the level? Lesser of 2 times will get synched on both devices?

On the iPad it actually is cumbersome. But by no means is it "utterly stupid".

I wouldn't wish that for my worst enemy!!
