Looks pretty good to me considering you said it’s really early in development!
I’m liking it, and I’m looking forward to playing it, giving feedback, and helping a bit to make it as good as it can be! #

    Art Style Tests!

    Hey hey all!

So I'm Michael, and I'm the other half making this game!

So we want this project to involve the community in a big way; it worked amazingly with our last game! Down below I have a google form with some rough art concepts of some possible character styles for the game. I'd love it if you could spare a few minutes and vote on your favourite one!

    https://goo.gl/forms/WeM2UYU9jOnZ8Z492

Thanks everyone! I look forward to posting often and keeping you all up to date with everything we are doing! If you guys ever have any other suggestions/feedback, feel free to post here as well, as I'll check this forum daily!

Sky Squadron Mission Report #1 - Core Controls and Character Art

    Listen up, Pilots!

Your first mission was a huge success. For those early few who have been brave enough to take control of our early gameplay prototypes, we salute you. Sky Squadron HQ is pleased to announce that we suffered no casualties during the first round of testing.

For those of you who are just joining us, we look forward to your daring contribution to future test missions!

The last mission had two objectives:
    1. Test out the core third person control scheme
    2. Gain important feedback on our character designs
Objective 1 - Core Gameplay Tests

In the last prototype, we gave players the opportunity to pick between two camera modes, Star Fox and Crimson Skies (chase mode). We wanted to test which gameplay camera players preferred, so looked at how many people picked one over the other, and rated which one the highest.

We saw that people favoured Star Fox over the chase camera, but not significantly so.

When looking at the star ratings of each control mode, things are even closer!

We had an even split between both modes, and people liked them about the same! This means we will most likely go for a camera mode that sits somewhere in between the two methods, where we have a bit of the Star Fox style freedom of movement around the screen, but still try to keep the camera centered on the plane if you move too far to the edge of the screen.

Objective 2 - Character Art Style tests

Last week we published a survey asking which art style people prefer from this list:

After running the survey for a week, we got these results:

We we pleasantly surprised to find that two choices stood out, 1 and 3, with 6 being the closest third place. This gives a very clear indication that we’re on the right track with 1 and 3, and will go forward with a style that sits somewhere comfortably between the two.

We’ve also had over 100 people sign up to join our test pilot program! It’s exciting to see so many people keen to help us make Sky Squadron an amazing game.

Next week’s update we’ll be exploring more character designs, looking at character customisation.

Remember you can join us on our discord at https://discordapp.com/invite/EnsSjZR, and if you have any friends you think may like to join our rag-tag squadron of testers, tell them to sign up at https://goo.gl/forms/agYSH9dtmnLuI8aw2

    Pew pew,
    Sky Squadron HQ

  11. Hey everybody! We’ve got a fresh new updated for Sky Squadron. Really excited to get people to playing it and hearing your feedback.

We’ve had an amazing number of requests for beta access, and we’ll be rolling in new people each update. If you haven’t got an invite this time, don’t worry! We’ll get to you soon. We plan to do an update every 2 weeks or so, rolling in new testers each time!

    -------------------------------------

    At attention, squad!

Great to see our brave test pilots alive and well, and we have some fresh recruits to welcome to the fold. I’m sure you’ll do us all proud! We’ve got a fresh new mission for you to undertake, if you’ve got the guts to take it on.

Last mission we tackled the core game mechanics, to find out what people think of the game camera and movement. If you want to see a full report, you can find it here:

    http://blog.trickshotdev.com/index.php/2018/05/29/mission-report-1-core-controls-and-character-art/

This week’s mission involves trying out the new player customisation features! Want to fly a different coloured plane? You can! Want to build your own personal kitty pilot?! We’ve got you covered! Jump in and give it a go!

    What’s new:
    • Character customisation! Make your own dashing kitty pilot!
    • Change the colour of your plane, no more boring red for you!
    • Radio chatter system! Get messages from the grizzled Commander Whiskers!
    • Various bug fixes

    Things we’d like feedback on:
    • What do you think about the character customisation options? Is there anything else you’d like to customise?
    • How do you find the character customisation options? Do you feel you can create something that you’re happy with?
    • What kinds of things would you like to change about the plane?
    • What do you think about the radio chatter during play?

    Things to keep in mind:
    • We’ve stuck with the star fox camera system for now, but that will be getting a lot of love over the next few weeks
    • The core gameplay is largely unchanged, but that’s going to get just as much love as the camera system!
    • The plane art is not final, that’s still placeholder!
    • The character art is a work in progress, we’ll be refining that as we go! We plan to have lots more options too.

If you have any other feedback, please email us at [email protected], fill in our form at https://goo.gl/forms/2p0jdjsRu4IgQvmB3, or join us on our discord server at https://discordapp.com/invite/EnsSjZR

If you have any friends who would like to join in the beta, feel free to have them sign up at https://goo.gl/forms/agYSH9dtmnLuI8aw2

    Good luck, Pilots!

I played Crimson Skies on the Xbox and gameplay is so great I remember that you could leave your plane a start shooting in a machine gun an placement very original.

  15. We are taking applications! We've got a bit of a list we're working through, but we're rolling in new people all the time. You can sign up at https://goo.gl/forms/agYSH9dtmnLuI8aw2

  16. Hey everybody! We've had some more amazing feedback from our test pilots. If people are keen about the results from the last test build, you can check out the analysis here!

Mission 2 - Character and Plane Customisation

We're hard at work on the next build, this time focusing on the core combat, so actually having some planes to shoot down, and having them shoot back :) We're expecting to have that build out mid next week.

  17. We've got our next update out :) Looking forward to know what people think!

    -------------------------------

    Listen up, Squad!

Last build we saw our test pilots strutting their stuff, customising their plane and character. Great job, pilots! The new features were a success, and it’s fantastic to see that you all take pride in your appearance. We need to look good out there!

For a rundown of the results, you can read the full mission report here:

    http://blog.trickshotdev.com/index.php/2018/06/21/sky-squadron-mission-report-2-character-and-plane-customisation/

Next mission won’t be all fancy makeup and sparkly planes. Time to take to the skies and get back to work. By George, we have enemies to fend off! Our foes have a new fleet of fighters that they’re itching to test out. We won’t let them!

    What’s new:
    • Enemy fighters: Watch out, because the have a few tricks up their traitorous sleeves!
    • New level pieces: Expect more twists and turns!
    • Targeting improvements: Now we have other planes to destroy we need more advanced weaponry.
    • Battle damage: See your plane take on more damage from incoming fire.
    • Environmental collision: no longer magically clip through the environment.
    • Customisation Improvements: Feeling indecisive? Try the new randomisation options!
    Things we’d like feedback on:
    • Do you like the shooting and aiming? Do you find it easy to use?
    • What do you think about the variety of enemy attack patterns?
    • Do you feel like you notice if your plane is taking damage?
    • Do you feel you have ability to evade enemy fire?
    • How do you feel about the turning level sections?
    Things to keep in mind:
    • We still have a simple mission structure, but expect that to change soon!
    • Remember that everything is still placeholder
    • We know there are some performance jitters, but don’t expect them to be around forever
    • We don’t have any damaged caused by environmental damage yet
    • Sometime enemies will clip through the environment and not explode. Probably hacks.

iOS testers have been added to Test Flight, so you should get an invitation shortly. If you don’t, please let me know and I’ll see what I can sort out.
