    Hi

Apple love to release new updated hardware moments after i have swiped my credit card.

I have realised that the primary use of my iphone is gaming.

My initial iphone contract is now up and I don't really fancy tying myself into a new contract just for a 3GS... so will probably just get an ipod touch for gaming. My 3G does chug on a few games and i would love to benefit from increased performance for sure.

Firstly... is the 3rd Gen ipod Touch as fast as the 3GS or faster?

Also... any ideas when exactly Apple is likely to update the touch range?
If its soon then obviously i should hold on, but with the ipad launch just around the corner i have a feeling they will hold off for at least six months.

Any thoughts on this would be great.

Apple has been updating the iPod models every year in september. So its upto you if you want to wait wait till sept for iPod 4G or buy the 3G iPod right now.

3rd gen iPod is just as fast as 3Gs if not faster (so I read). Apple brings one out every September, just like the last 3 years! I'd say wait for now.

Would you fancy yourself getting a new contract if it was for a brand new iPhone? They usually have new versions of those in July(?), or around there, and chances are it will be better than even the 3G touch. I have a 2G touch and will get whatever new iPhone comes out next.

September. Excellent. Looks like its long enough away to justify getting a new one now then :)

In regards to a new iphone. I would love one, but i am kind of sick of being tied into a contract. Take the 3GS as an example. I couldn't upgrade in the UK when it was released until my contract was up which was a massive bummer for me as i want the raw power of a newer device.

I am a bit tired of the restricions a phone contract adds to the iphone so... as much as i love the mobile connectivity of my iphone am thinking i might just move away from them and just have a touch. At least that way i am not tied into anything should i want to upgrade or even if i loose / damage my phone.

Urgh... sugh a hard decision though. It really is the BEST phone i have ever owned but it also is annoying me i know i could be running games on a better platform.
