I don't know about the trolling but the switch is quite a common con if I had to bet on it I'd say they probably showed her a real device first then at some point (probably wrapping or bagging) switched it with the wood mockup and made a quickish exit. while this isn't the best example it does show the cons quite common and probably happens a lot
