    oooooh mass effect!!
not sure if its on ps3 though, check it out tho.
Its like star wars, except waaaaaaay cooler. The main similarities are the futuristic environment and the 'force' style abilities.
Its a third person shooter. Also you get down to business at the end... if you know what i mean ;)

edit: wow i didnt even see skyye's post lol

Nah Mass Effect is 360 only. Great game though.

And to the OP, get Eternal Sonata!! :)

It should be uber cheap now and it's one of my favorite RPG's of this gen.

Thanks! I've just been looking at oblivion also and it looks pretty good also.

Looks like it is coming down to Fallout 3, Oblivion, and Demon's Soul. Probably leaning towards Demon's Soul.

Thanks to all for helping me filter/narrow down the... already limited choices :)

Actually I did see it on Amazon for $20. I'm going to try and find some better vid's of it on Youtube before taking the plunge but it's tempting at that price.

On a side note- all these virtual market-places make it waaayyyy too easy to buy games.. Amazon, Appstore- 1 click purchases will surely be my demise :)

Edit: actually I think Eternal Sonata may be closest to what I'm looking for right now. I'm still interested in Demon's Soul but ES has a familiar, nostalgic feel to it and I think I'm going to order it :)

Demon's Souls is pretty tough... and the combat itself is way more action than RPG. As I've said in other places you should know what you're getting before you buy it. Awesome game though.

Oblivion and Fallout 3 (both made by Bethesda) get my vote(s) for best RPG on PS3, although Fallout 3 is slightly better on the X360 only because the PS3version has a few technical issues. Not enough problems to call it a deal breaker if the PS3 is your only system. I have both so I got the X360 version. Oblivion is great on both consoles, and you can probably get it nowadays for less than $25 used or maybe even new.

first, **** you. You have no idea what good game design is.

    Fallout 1 is a masterpiece.

you must be too young to enjoy it.

Eternal Sonata is the best if you have any interest in casual RPGs and music. I regret getting a Wii instead of PS3 just for this single game.
There are lots of RPG for PS3, in fact I think it's the only console right now that has tons of RPGs, but like mentioned most are in Japanese, not translated/on sale in English speaking countries yet due to lack of interest or whatever, overshadowed by western RPGs.
Tales series are good if you can endure the fact that they are PS2 titles, thus graphics aren't comparable to PS3 stuff.

Sadly, there aren't many choices...I think everybody has already covered the good ones.

6 RPGs for PS3 accoding to IGN, haha...*sigh* IGN PS3 RPGs

I just ordered ES right before I came back to check this thread :)

@eriathien: Yeah it's kind of a bummer there aren't many to choose from in English. I think someone suggested I should learn Japanese :) They were just being funny but the idea is actually starting to grow on me...
Hopefully Uncharted 2 and ES will hold me over until FF13.

It still has the most out of the three systems I think.
Wii has the most pathetic game library to have ever belonged to any gaming console in history, not only including RPGs, but all types of games. I own a Wii and it's shocking to say I "often rumble through my discs, but just can't find one that interests me enough to start up the Wii".
So yeah PS3 owners are on the higher ground -.-.

A few friends tell me that Valkyria Chronicles is pretty good, though I haven't had a chance to try that one myself yet. I'm waiting for Star Ocean: The Last Hope to come out, doesn't look like we'll see it for PS3 until February though.

Fallout 3 is definately my best 360 game, can't expect it to be much different on a PS3...

Actually, if you look, the PS3 has the least RPGs by far.

For sure Fallout 3 is just a well made game though expect more crashes and bugs on the PS3 version -.- I say this from experience ><

Yuppers this is true. Though that being said Demon Soul I hear is quite kick butt.

No, it doesn't. Even removing the WiiVC games from earlier consoles, Wii has more RPG games of nearly all types, from action/RPG (Super Paper Mario) to SRPG (Fire Emblem Path of Radiance) to traditional JRPGs (Tales of Symphonia: New World). Hell, they've even got sim RPGs (Rune Factory). The next Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter games are also going to be on Wii from what I understand.

360 also has more than PS3. All the multiplatform RPGs, plus 360 exclusives like Blue Dragon, Mass Effect, etc.

I wouldn't say "all types of games".

It certainly has the best line up of light gun games of any console I've ever played on. HotD: Overkill, the RE light gun games, Dead Space Extraction, etc.

Hands down it has the best line up of platformers this gen on Galaxy alone. Also, Mad World is probably the most fun beat 'em up this gen, IMHO. Muramasa is a great little action/adventure.

The library is sparse in terms of games that appeal to wider audiences though, particularly western audiences who like things like Fallout, FPS games, etc.

It's a more quick play arcade oriented system, tbqh.

Hell, if you had more fighting games, more shmups, and more traditional sports titles, you'd basically have a Dreamcast, tbqh. IMHO, that's what developers should be focusing on with Wii. Forget about competing against Nintendo and Sega and Capcom and Squeenix on the platformer, RPG, racer, party game front. Go after the niches: fighters, shmups, etc.

Well actually I belong in the Asian audience group, and Wii doesn't have a game library that suits our taste well either. Most of Wii stuff is either sports or Mario, neither of which I have any interest in (especially Mario). I only enjoy Asian RPGs, strategy, survival horror (like Zero) and the occasional movement-action (like Devil May Cry). I was really looking forward to Tales of Symphonia: Knights of Ratatosk, since the original Tales of Symphonia was like my favourite JRPG ever, but Ratatosk turned out to be a huge disappointment with its unbelievably slow pace and removal of world map.
Oh well I wasn't the one who bought the Wii. -.-
