I agree about God of War, it is awesome. If you are thinking Hero of Sparta, you're way off. I was bored before I finished the first level, God of War made me fail my English 111 class cause I didn't do my research paper. Burnout Legends is an awesome smash and crash racer, artic storm is second in this genre. I really like Gran Turismo and Ridge Racer. Resistance and Peace Walker (i'm hoping) are the best 3PS, but I played a lot of SOCOM 2 multiplayer. I haven't picked up Tekken 6 but I really like SFAlpha3Max. If I'm f-ed up, I usually play the warriors or me & my katamari or WTF. SSX was cool when I had my 3000 (I have a Go). Beats let's you use you own music, while basic, it is nice to play while jammin. Beaterator to jam out. And either Alien Zombie Death, everyday shooter (if you like music shooters), or Age of Zombies for a "dualstick" (one stick and four buttons) shooter, and Dracula is always a good choice if you don't have it on the iPhone (I prefer it on the iPhone). R-type delta is the best PSOne game on PSN. And because I like killing animals, rapala trophies for fishing and cabelas African safari for hunting. While all these aren't the best of everything, I feel they represent the best of their genres. A couple of others to just checkout are Midnight club: La, pursuit force: extreme justice, killzone, sega collection, and megaman.

There's also a demo for GoW:CoO on the PS Store in case you wanna try before you buy. Best thing I can say about that game is that it's GoW, just like on the consoles.

I would have bought it, but I'm all God of War-ed out after GoW 3. Not that big of a fan of the series.

    1. puzzle quest (but the itunes-version is much cheaper)
    2. lumines (the psp version ist very nice, the apple-version has very bad controls)
    3. warhammer squad command

    and some psp-exclusives:
    1. loco roco
    2. patapon
    3. wipeout pulse
    4. field commander

but i think the idevices are better (and cheaper) "playstations", i sold my psp some weeks ago because of my new touch :)

I'll never sell my PSP until the iPod actually offers me some more higher quality games. Chaos Rings is getting there, but still doesn't compare to the best RPGs on other platforms.

Until then the PSP and the iPod(and DS) both fullfill my gaming needs. I can't imagine just having an iPod, you're missing out on so many games.

EDIT: Burnout Legends is AWESOME :) I don't know yet if I like it as much as Paradise, but I def. don't regret my purchase.

i think it's a matter of taste. if you aren't a fan of big rpgs or maybe jump and runs, the touch is a perfect gaming machine. there ist only his lack of battery power for a long session without a plug

one think i'm really missing is a tekken or soul calibur in the itunes store
(they are additional recommendations for the psp-newbie )

Alright I've put GoW and Burnout Legends on my "To Buy" list.

BTW- lots of people justify high prices on the app store by saying, a PSP game like this will cost you 5 times this price. Daxter>all the platformers on the app store, agreed? I picked up a used copy of Daxter for $3 at Gamestop. Talk about a deal

Have played few v.games on the PSP, Patapon is one among the best in terms of gameplay and fun factor.

    @german dude

I kinda agree with you, not everybody needs a PSP or DS. For some folks with certain gaming tastes the iPod is all they really need. The PSP isn't just good for RPG's and jump and runs though(which I think you mean platform games?), lots of other goodies. Like Crazy Taxi, Power Stone, Genesis Collection, racing games and while their Minis section is not as beefed up as the App store, it also gives you a bit of a taste of what you get on the iPod.

Can't get into Patapon myself, tried the demo and the sequels demo as well. Like the art style and the general idea behind it, but I couldn't enjoy it. Just not for me I guess.

Same for Loco Roco, though I didn't like Rolando either.

Tekken: Dark Resurrection is pretty amazing as well
My first psp game was Gurumin, (and was the reason I got the psp also) and its also amazing. It really depends on your taste. Apparently, Lumines is really good along with MGS & Socom, but I have yet to try those out. I just got LBP, and am so far really liking it. But none of these compare to LEGENDS.

Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror is one of the better fps/espionage games but a pretty old title. I liked it better than MGS:pO.

Strategy games: FF Tactics, Disgaea I and II, Spectral Souls (but constant loads kill the game if you have the 1st gen PSP), MGS: Acid 2

DJmax Portable games if you like rhythm games.

Harvest Moon: Hero of Leaf Valley, if you like farming sims.

Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman. What Did I Do To Deserve This? (Yes the title is that long) is a pretty interesting strategy game with retro graphics.

It's good. Buy it. I saw a copy for $7 other other day. Also consider having a look at the Disgaea series.

The PSP has far for good games than most people give it credit for. Between that and the ability to run emulators, it's probably the best value handheld you can get at the moment.

Zombie Tycoon is probably the closest thing. There are several TBS games though.
