    Australia, mate!
I haven't seen the Hurt Locker, but I've heard good comments about it. Should I go and see it? Thanks.

Avatar isn't the best movie on the list, but it's probably the only one I really enjoyed. Most of the other ones bummed me out.

Inglourious Basterds. Didn't even have to think about it.

If Avatar was so horrible, why did it get nominated for Best Picture?

    ...And what's wrong with environmentalism?

Absolutely. On the DHroxometer, I rate it a 2012/10. Though once you see it, well....I'll leave that up to you...;)

I found it amazingly generic. It showed promise at the beginning, then it turned into the standard "get this so I can go home" story.

Everyone that voted Avatar.... geeeeez... Is the amount of special effects what makes a movie good? Really?

Il lay my vote on A Serious Man and Inglorius Basterds.

Besides whats in your list i liked Where the Wild Things Are.

I was kinda disappointed with Inglourious Basterds. It tried really hard and that ruined it a bit for me. Avatar just seemed to enjoy itself. Although it may be less complex and a whole lot more shallow, it was a fun ride.

So yeah, the effects did make it good, and what's wrong with that? Mindless visual entertainment. There's a place for meaningful, groundbreaking movies, but we don't need to see them all the time.

I haven't seen it but I look forward to renting it. I was very excited as I am a huge fan of the Author of the book. :)

I wouldn't say it's exactly like the book, but it is a really sophisticated, dry-humor kind of twist on it. i don't know why it wasn't hyped much, because it had:

    Weird Humor.
    Great Animation.
George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Owen Wilson, Jason Schwartzman, Robin Williams (I think?) and Bill Murray.

Just saw Shutter Island last night. It was, meh. The storyline was pretty good though.

Wow. I just saw the first half of Hurt Locker and thought it was boring. I'm so glad I subscribe to Netflix and don't rent movies anymore.

    Hi!
According to my stance, Avatar is the best movie of 2009. I like this movie too much.
I saw this movie three times.

The fact that I didn't care for the characters in the movie didn't help. At first I thought it was a really refreshing take on a war movie but there's way too much suspense and build up which I found to be really annoying. I'll probably finish it before I return the disc though.
