Look at this site for at least some decent stuff. You may not want to get any of it, but at least you can see what some reasonble quality stuff is. I would not buy from them, you can find things cheaper elsewhere, but you can see what the brands are, the models are, and if you look around the site, you will learn about some quality equipment Here is another site that you can check out.
Sony mdr-v6 (same as 7506) all the way. Have one set at home and one at work. These are the headphones you see all the time in studios. I've had one pair for about ten years now, and they still sound fantastic. There's a reason they've been around forever. They're solid quality, and under $100.
Enjoy your vacation then, and don't worry about "best" headphones. Whenyou get home and have some time to look into it, you can look around and find something that meets your needs.
http://www.headphone.com/ Buy a decent quality pair of cans, buds, canals and get a Total Bithead amp and you will be absolutely blown away by the improvement.
agree totally, i love my mdr-6. they are known for their flat response, and yeah they're in studios everywhere. i first heard them from a neighbor that's had a pair for 18 years and went got some the next day. When I said go listen to some, that depends on where you live. Around here there is a huge guitar store that has a good selection (sennheiser, mdr-6, etc, etc) Also there is a musical instrument store that has good stuff all the way to stuff I just wouldn't pay that much for no matter the sound. BTW, I wouldn't bring my best headphones on vacation, just one more thing to worry about. At work and vacation, I just use the apple in-ears that came with the phone. I use my good ones at home. enjoy your vacation.
+1 I'm using the Shure SE210 + its MPA. Awesome combination. Its expensive but not as expensive as the ones with triple drivers and stuff. My only comment is that the bass is not as good and the MPA is a bit lower than I wanted it (e.g. the Apple clicker is just next to the face area).
Nothing wrong with Skullcandy. I have the FMJ chrome ones and they sound great to my ear. Yes, there may be better available, but it's what sounds good to you. These sound better than any others I have had and the price was good. They also have the mic and mute button built in and so work very well for the iphone/ipod touch.
headphones: Grado SR60 earphones: Ultimate Ears do it for me, I've got the Superfi 3 studio and I love the sound, but just like the Grado I like a natural sound and not a deformed bass-boosted mush. But i think a lot of people like an overly bass-rich sound, to do with the music young folks listen to these days. Awful stuff, shame...
