There are so many geometry war-esque space shooters in the App Store now, it's hard to decide which one to get. Let's see, there's: C.S.One, Light Wars, Nano Fighter, Anomaly, Isotope, Blue Attack, and now Occurro (I'm probably forgetting some). It seems Nano fighter & Isotope have recieved good reviews, and the comments on Occurro seem positive. I can't get a read on C.S.One - the reviews are mixed. So, if you could only buy one, which one is the best?

If you're only buying one I'd say buy Isotope.

But you should get Light Wars and Nano Fighter! as well.

They all offer something that the other doesn't.

What he said. This is the one I play the most.

True, although Light Wars is much more like Geometry Wars than Nano Fighter (which has no borders and plays very differently.)

All three are good games, try the lite versions out!

Note: You can transfer data (once) from Isotope: Lite to Isotope, which is really cool...

I don't love the tilt controls of Blue Attack! but I adore the game itself. It's a little short.

Circuit Strike One has TEH KEWL graphics & sound, but just isn't as fun for me for long sessions.

I enjoy the mazes in Anomaly, but refuse to play it much until the "ship jumps over the walls" bug is fixed. :(

Very good roundup of the different games! Has anyone tried Occurro to compare?

Of all the ones I have played, Light Wars wins over my Geometry Wars heart. It's the closest to GeoWars, putting enough of an originality spin on it, but not enough to make it NOT GeoWars-ish. At least that my opinion. Before that it was 2079.

I just bought Occuro! yesterday, and although it's pretty basic (only 1 weapon upgrade at the moment), it's still very fun, and quite polished (IMO), with great controls. The main difference with Occuro is that you have to keep moving around the "arena" or you lose your weapon function. I think it's cool that you can't just camp out in a corner and keep killing enemies the whole time. It really forces you to think a little bit when you play. I'm sure updates will bring more weapon upgrades and maybe some other stuff too, but for $.99 i would say it's definitely worth it if you're a fan of this genre. BTW, i'm #1 all-time on the global leaderboards at the moment (Bean22).

All in all, Isotope is still my favorite game in this genre. The RPG elements in the campaign mode are what kept me coming back for more. I beat it a while ago, and now i play survival mode quite a bit. I really hope there's an Isotope 2, or that there will be some new levels in a future update, or maybe even level packs we could purchase for like $.99.

OK, I just spent the $0.99 I probably should have on Occurro on Paradise: The Beginning, which though some bizarre chain of links I ended up looking at from this thread.

Guess I'm a sucker for tank games.

It's pretty darn cool, but (as many reviewers have said) there's not a lot to it. Also I wish the tank's main gun wasn't this little zapper/acid thing, it's just not the same as filling the screen with projectiles! (Something I miss when I play CS1...)

CS.one offers the freshest take on the geometry wars genre. There is a ton of depth to this game, and personally I've sunk over 20+ hours into it. It's a zero g asteroids game that offers some really intense gameplay, however it takes a little more time to appreciate the "new" aspect of it and thus has received some critism. People want their dual sticks, and you'll be happy to know that the very next update will have just that. Not only that but the dual stickies get to rock their very own ship. Completely different from the normal players. With an acheivement system and online factions its a no brainer for 99 cents.

Wow, I'd actually have to say I don't want dual sticks for CS1 - the main reason why I bought it was that I had just demoed Asteroid BBQ and really enjoyed the different controls, decided to get CS1 at that point. The main thing I didn't like about CS1 is the laser you shoot instead of projectiles... Also, being able to fly through the walls threw me for a while.

Do you (or anyone else playing CS1) use the "advanced" controls at all? I just couldn't figure out how they were more helpful than the "basic" ones...

Also I wish this game would remember my online/offline choice.

Yes I do use advanced controls though I'm best with the basic. The advanced is something I'm still playing with though. I'm lucky enough to have the build of the next update, and the "advanced" aspect really comes to the front. You can alter thrust, rotation speed, and air dampening in the control options for advanced. It really is an awesome touch. Plus don't worry about the Dual stick mode as the basic and advanced are still the creme of the crop. The dual sticks are mostly for those who just couldn't or didn't want to get used to the original controls. It will eventually be a battle of DS control players versus the asteroids players, should be a fun little battle on the leaderboards. Plus the web portal that used to exit to safari will now be in game for those who have upgraded to 3.0.

But also for me it will be hard to live with the option, that there are the dual stick controls existing. It feels weird somehow. It's like giving Super Mario a steering wheel option, just because some losers are asking for it. Really strange. I hope, it won't mess with the leaderbords and I really will try to ignore this shit, cs.one is what it is and not a cheap clone of other cheap games. Period. I already see the rising reviews saying, how great cs.one became with the new control option.... I just can repeat myself. It feels strange to me. A bit of a letdown, even as an option. But on the other hand, Shay needs to sell this thing. Pitty to have to make such big steps in a wrong direction. I'll close my eyes and just continue the way I love that game. But it's fantastic, that the achievement stuff, the fraction info etc will be in-game now. Very cool!

Yeah, believe me I wasn't exactly thrilled, but it controls better than I thought it would, and like you said, Shay has to get people buying it, so he'll cater to the demand. It's really not as intrusive as I thought it would be, and actually is fun to play around with. Plus like I said the advance control just got a beef up and a new ship to boot, so the leaderboards will have three different types of players. All I know is I want MORE CS.one tracks, fills, and beats, as well as new game modes and a more engaging faction experience, and in order to get these things, this needs to be a success! I believe in h.grenades goal. To give us a hardcore, yet casual experience:)(I love oxymorons)

But personally, I think, it's hard to gain a new wave of massive purchases with updates. Perhaps, he just should have made a new game for money? The App Store is just too fast to focus on "old" games. So won't the audience. Perhaps too much energy put into stuff nobody is caring about anymore. Perhaps just develop a great dual stick game and out of this money put some work into the other games? Don't know... perhaps it's really some waisted time. We will see.

Agreed, but some games didn't become hits until they had been on the appstore for a while. Blocked comes to mind and I believe that even hit the number one spot. Flight control was released months ago and still holding onto the charts. Who knows as word of mouth spreads, the game may take off, although I definitely understand what your saying. I've never seen games fly by so fast...though the games are also for the most part much shorter on the "i" platform.
