I love Heroes of Kalevala, for match-3 with power and a story. That might be too "Azkend-ish" for you, but it is pure match-3 rather than match-grouping like Azkend. Ditto with anything Clockwork Pixels produces, like Kitten Sanctuary, Puppy Sanctuary and Vampire Ventures. Again, those have a story element to them. Have you checked out any of the The Treasures of Montezuma match-3's by Alawar? They do great stuff! Fishdom, 7 Wonders, as you can tell, I like the ones with a story to go with them. As for Bejeweled, yeah, I'm one of the original early adopters of this game and mine has ads now on my iPod Touch 4th gen. So sorry to see PopCap sell out a longtime paid app with ransom-iap.
You know, although I'm not interested in creating today's TA drama-fest, this particular experience really has me wishing Apple would allow some kind of "breach of contract" refund. I don't complain about sales. Check my posting history. That said, I cannot for the life of me understand how it is acceptable business practice to change a product I have owned for (in this case) over a year, without my knowledge or consent, in such a way as to alter my already-owned product significantly and subsequently cause my experience of its use to suffer in such a way. Surely Toyota could not legally come to my home and replace my engine with a much smaller one, or replace my ignition switch with a coin slot a year after purchase? Whatever, it's certainly not the end of the world, and not even remotely close to important when considered within the context of my "real life," but it is nonetheless extremely frustrating... "Caveat emptor," but I'm not entirely comfortable with the notion that it applies in perpetuity after the "sale..." DBC
Yeah, it should be illegal. Hopefully Apple gets hit with a huge class action lawsuit by a crafty lawyer someday so we won't be losing games all the time to freemium bait and switches.
I agree. The recommendations are great. I will be buying some of these for sure. I definitely will be deleting ad filled Bejeweled.
Nice DBC. Same here. It's all a marketing ploy. "Hey guys! We're free for the holidays! So even if you don't like it we still got money out of you from ads and probably confidential information we can then sell to the highest bidder. We never lose. " Maybe I wouldn't mind if it were a holiday season thing. Like you know how tons of people are getting devices for Christmas, so that means a lot of revenue from ads alone not to mention the actual purchase. But just switching the ads on and leaving it like that is messed up.
It's not about the money. A couple of bucks isn't going to cause me to go bankrupt. It's the principle. If this nonsense is allowed to continue, the you can be sure other devs are going to jump on the bandwagon.
My favorite was Chain3, sadly pulled from the app store: http://www.rsblsb.com/chain3system.shtml For another twist try Gem Spinner 1 and 2, which I thought next gen Bejeweled would take on as a gimmick: rotating shapes https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/tiny-bite-games/id300780981
They have to feed their families and pay their mortgages too, they haven't been able to sustain visibility and it's either ads or they'll have to close their doors. Come on guys, be fair... you paid less than a coffee for it. /sarcasm
Thanks for mentioning me, nightc1. Yes, our game, Jewel Next is good IMO and Azkend is good too. I own all Azkend series (HD and no HD...) and Azkend 1 is better. Azkend 2 have some difficulty balance issues = Too hard (up to the point of annoyance but still beatable..)
It's true. It's about principle... I bet developers who actually developed Bejeweled are against this decision. I knew Bejeweled became free, but I didn't know it became freemium...
I'm having a hard time understanding people complaining about this game going free. It gives users a chance to play the full game with ads in it. Big deal. I'd understand if you receive ads after paying full price for the game, but you don't. I had the full version for $0.99, updated, and no ads. I even installed the regular iphone version on my ipad after the update, still no ads. This is a win/win. I also understand how deceptive this may be to some; still there's no reason to crucify EA for simply making this game more accessible to anyone who may want a "trial." In this case, the trial lasts forever at the price of in-game ads. OH NO.
I like how everybody completely disregarded your comment (even though it's on the first page) and decided to bring out their pitchforks and torches. Seriously, did anyone bother to do even the slightest bit of research before claiming EA overstepped any kind of boundary? I hate the fact that I'm actually DEFENDING one of the crappiest companies in the world, but it's sad how quick most of you are to succumb to mindless bashing.
