Crit% effect is crit damage. Crit % is the chance you will get a crit

your base crit% effect seems to be about 50% bonus damage when you get a crit. then passives, relics, and some buff actives can boost that

A little warning that @MikaMobile said that the combo of
    Premeditation (Ranger)
    Song of Inspiration (Bard)

was an oversight and will be nerfed...

go to the starting screen. click the gear symbol next to the character that beat the game and click the "new" paper that has a + symbol on it. it will copy your player to a new level 1 and that level one has all those skills unlocked

Guess people had better not update if they enjoy this combo.

Honestly though, I hope it doesn't get nixed. Its a nice to use once you work and grind to get the skills necessary to do it.

Looking at the character development chart on the wiki, it doesn't look as if the the casters are meant to be blended. They only common traits are INT. Anybody have a witch hybrid or a wizard hybrid build?

This good sir on page 3 begs to differ:
I started a Mage and will follow the same route. Level 7 currently, on Normal.
I find it more difficult than a melee fighter currently, as I don't have much HP and Defense, and take a lot of damage from - mainly melee - monsters.
But have to say this could very well be caused by me spreading out skillpoints and e.g. putting 3 into CHA to get the Bard's +25% Gold skill early on.
Had I dropped all points into relevant stats, I would very likely be stronger.
Should get easier once I get some Necromancer skills, though.
And I plan to add in Battlemage skills, too. If only for his 3rd skill "+50% Crit Damage with spells".

Can anyone tell me what "AoE" is? I've seen it mentioned a lot in this thread, but never explained.

The bards second to last skill, generalist, is incredible. After equipping it for the first time, I could buy about 10 new skills thanks to the lessened requirements

    Different Builds

Great thread! I knew Premeditation and Song of Inspiration could potentially lead to some game-breaking combos, so it's neat to see that there is one in the game, even if it's going to be patched shortly.

I've been playing around with a few builds and just thought I'd share what I've come up. I've been playing each character through to about level 30, enough to beat the final campaign mission and unlock all the skills for a couple of classes, and then start a New Game+.

The following builds assume that you have already unlocked the necessary skills through previous play-throughs and that you are leveling the appropriate scaling damage stats (Str/Dex/Int). Here are the builds I've come up with so far:

    War Wizard - AoE Specialist

    Skills:

    Drain Life (Witch)
    Chain Lightning (Wizard)
    Glacial Spike (Wizard)
    Calamity (Witch)
    Meteor (Wizard)
    Thunderbolt (Wizard)
    Tornado (Witch)
    Teleport (Wizard)

    Passive:

    Staff Master (Wizard)
    Wild Magic (Wizard)
    Elementalist (Wizard)
    Dark Arts (Witch)
    Mass Destruction (Wizard)
    Life Leech (Witch)

This was my first character, so I had limited options. It's a straightforward mass AoE build with some single target options. Drain Life will always keep you topped off, so you shouldn't need to use potions that often. Mostly, though, Teleport will keep you out of harm's way and Thunderbolt is for when enemies get too close. The vortex effect from Tornado nicely bundles enemies up for Chain Lightning, Glacial Spike, and Meteor AoE. Calamity is a single-target finisher, usually used to kill ranged and healer units right away. The +spell crit passive from Battlemage is worth swapping in, too. No specific gear is needed, just try and pump up your spellpower as high as you can.

    Anti-Paladin - Two-Handed Tank

    Skills:

    Divine Hammer (Paladin)
    Mana Strike (Battlemage)
    Whirlwind (Barbarian)
    Radiance (Paladin)
    Holy Word (Paladin)
    Revenge (Knight)
    Horror (Witch)
    Flame Weapon (Battlemage)

    Passive:

    Armsman (Knight)
    Colossal Weapons (Barbarian)
    Might (Paladin)
    Grit (Knight)
    Chivalry (Knight)
    Life Leech (Leech)

I had a lot of fun with this build, plus it looks totally sweet with Worldreaver and Mor'doth Doomplate. A lot of the passive talents come from the Knight to buff both DPS and overall toughness. With a little bit of life drain from talents and items (one Vintage Chardonnay equipped), it's enough to keep you at full health with Holy Word for large spikes. This build generally doesn't need potions until you get to 100+ enemies in the Colosseum. The AoE from Mana Strike and Whirlwind will shred packs of enemies with your two-hander equipped with Divine Hammer saved for a single target follow-up. Revenge is a ridiculously overpowered talent in this build. It deals high damage back to the enemy, and also counts as your damage, so it triggers your life drain as well. Bosses and large waves of enemies will kill themselves quickly while healing you back to full. Horror is on the bar for a little extra crowd control, but it's not essential to the build.

Assassin - Focused Single Target DPS

    Skills:

    Twin Strike (Ninja)
    Sneak Attack (Rogue)
    Shadowstep (Rogue)
    Blade Rush (Ninja)
    Holy Word (Paladin)
    Radiance (Paladin)
    Revenge (Knight)
    Flame Weapon (Battlemage)

    Passive:

    Lethal Edge (Rogue)
    Armsman (Knight)
    Dual Wield (Ninja)
    Flurry (Ninja)
    Lethality (Ninja)
    Life Leech (Witch)

Do you like killing tower bosses before they've had a chance to summon their adds? If so, I've got a build for you! This build offers massive single-target DPS. With the right gear (+crit and +crit effect), the first four buttons on your bar can all deal 1500-2000 damage at level 30. Use a dagger in your main hand to give you access to Sneak Attack and Shadowstep with a sword in your offhand. With proper timing, the Sneak Attack and Shadowstep animations will also give you temporary immunity (similar to how enemies are invincible when leaping). You can also sub out Sneak Attack with Lacerate for better boss-killing. I found that quickly dispatching the Rogue/Ranger boss for 700 exp a kill was fast exp generation and much easier than the Colosseum. Even though this build has such an intense focus on single target damage, it still can comfortably do 100+ runs in the Colosseum since you can one-shot most enemies. Radiance and Revenge also provide good AoE and control. A little bit of life drain also means all of your primary attacks make decent heals.

    Fist of Fury - Auto-Puncher

    Skills:

    Frenzy (Barbarian)
    Wrath (Paladin)
    Ki Blast (Monk)
    Savage Pounce (Barbarian)
    Radiance (Paladin)
    Empty Body (Monk)
    Spirit Trance (Monk)
    Flame Weapon (Battlemage)

    Passive:

    Thundering Blows (Monk)
    Punishment (Paladin)
    Evasion (Monk)
    Counter Strike (Monk)
    Flurry (Ninja)
    Impending Doom (Ninja)

This is not the most effective build of those listed, but it is thematic and super fun to watch in action. I wanted to make an unarmed attack character, but I was pretty underwhelmed with all of the Monk attack skills. Your bread-and-butter is going to be Frenzy and Wrath. They should always be up due to the reduced cooldowns from Frenzy and getting criticals with Impending Doom. You can get some +dodge from armor to help out with Counter Strike, but mostly you are interested in the +crit/+attack speed items. You will rapid fire chain punch enemies into oblivion. Savage Pounce is your gap-closer and also gives you immunity during its animation with good timing. Ki Blast is flavorful and fun, but not strictly necessary to the build. Sundering Strikes (Knight) and Life Leech (Witch) are both good Passives to consider.

Update: This build is pretty weak against the mage tower boss and the final boss. They teleport around too much for your chain punches to consistently land. I swapped out Frenzy and Wrath for Power Attack and Ki Shot for better quick single target skills (Wind Walk works okay, too). Ki Blast and Radiance take care of the adds.

Dark Archer - Bowman with Pets

    Skills:

    Aimed Shot (Ranger)
    Barrage (Ranger)
    Incendiary Arrow (Ranger)
    Apollo Strike (Ranger)
    Summon Pet (Ranger)
    Summon Mummy (Necromancer)
    Raise Skeleton (Necromancer)
    Flame Weapon (Battlemage)

    Passive:

    Archery (Ranger)
    Leader (Archery)
    Army of Doom (Necromancer)
    Flurry (Ninja)
    Death by 1000 Cuts (Ranger)
    Life Leech (Witch)

Another weird one for the "fun and thematic" category. This build is a ranged attacker with pets. Unfortunately, the pet AI doesn't seem to have any kind of taunt mechanic and they're all pretty frail except for the mummy (and summoning too many skeletons has a tendency to cause crashes for me), but you can still beat the campaign with this build by level 30 and get to 100+ in the Colosseum. Because you don't have any heals or CC on your bar (besides enemies attacking your pets), life drain is important for gearing. I wanted to use Archery, but I think you can build a better pet class with melee since you need fewer skills to make it work, allowing you to open up valuable real estate on your bar for heals and CC.

I made a build for killing bosses in <10 seconds.

    Blood Magic
    Sneak Attack
    Shadow Step
    Assassinate
    Aegis
    Enrage
    Power Infusion
    Flame Weapon

    Lethality
    Armsman
+Anything (Grit, Dragon Style add minor damage)

    Gear:
    Tombcaller x2
    Cowl of the Red Fang
    Black Candle x2

Stats: 100 Int, 20 Dex, 5 everything else

At the start of the fight, use Flame Weapon, Aegis, Blood Magic, Power Infusion, Enrage then Shadowstep to the boss.

Then use Blood Magic > Sneak Attack > Blood Magic > Assassinate.

This should instantly kill the boss, dealing 20k damage over 3 hits. This is because you have +200% crit damage, +120% damage bonus, and 100% crit for those 3 attacks.

The Aegis absorbs some of the 3 Blood Magic damage or the few boss attacks that hit you.

Once you have Witch's Blood Magic, you can combo it nicely with Drain Life.

Up until Dark Harvest, the only Spell I used from Necromancy was Wandering Plague. It's insanely strong on high HP enemies and bosses if combo'd with Blood Magic.

I am now going into Paladin with the aim of getting all Paladin and Ranger spells. Aura of Light is seriously insane! I have very high Cooldown reduction (5 from the Robe, 15 from passive, 2x20 from trinkets), so it's up almost nonstop. Even just the Wandering Plague ticks heal me by a nice amount with the aura active.

EDIT: I forgot to mention: Once you get Teleport, things will get a lot easier. cast wandering plague, and run/teleport around the room. Nuke the ranged enemies, kite the melee ones.

Blood Magic's damage goes through Last Stand and Aegis won't cover the 20% life sacrifice. Maybe it's possible with Knight's Defend skill, haven't tested it yet though.

edit: Also, checking character stat changes, Ninja's Lethality only improves melee crit damage.

What's your build? The Assassin link I posted above can almost kill Morduin before he summons his first wave at adds at level 30, and Dimir also posted a single target focus build (both have Rogue bases). I also posted a spell-caster and tank build for Wizard and Knight/Paladin primary builds, all of which can kill the end boss by level 30, if not earlier.
