STR does influence dagger, but in a very insignificant way. So does DEX to sword and axe. And fist benefit the same from STR and DEX but sadly both mediocre.
All physical skills scale with main hand weapon power(except ranger skills scale with bow ofc), no matter what weapon u wear. However most decent skills have their restriction in weapon choice. U can try having 100 INT and wearing a rod while casting Ki Blast, a physical skill, and it should deal way more damage than the case u wears a fist.

Fully agree. Playing an almost straight Bard at level 12 (wanted to see how long it takes to get his last skill, 3 hours on the clock now; thought I'd be done/lvl18 already).
Picked up some skills like Cleave, Divine Hammer and Shielduse, to make things easier.
Really like going in with Charm and then hewing away at the rest.
Sealed Cave is extremely difficult; but I just got Chain Lightning and a complementing Mage Armor, let's see how that goes...

Playing pure Bard and only taking other skills that you qualify for due to Bard requirements I imagine to be insanely difficult.

The end boss has several attacks you can avoid, and some you can't.

The main attack to look out for is his charging lighting attack, which will one shot most characters. He will summon 4 skeletons, then after he returns, he will cast this attack.

This attack is often difficult to dodge as melee, so you have to turn off Move to Attack, or you might get stuck auto attacking him during his cast.

I found it easier to beat him using ranged, and teleporting away every time he casts his Lighting AoE.

He also casts Meteor several times in a row, which can do a lot of damage. You can avoid them by running around, but I actually suggest doing damage to him during this period, because he stands still to cast Meteors for several seconds.

The Necromancer skill everlasting plague is EXTREMELY strong on the boss if you cast Blood Magic first, as the DoT will stay on him the entire dutation of the fight, and each tick will crit.

Similarly, the Ninja skill Lacerate with Blood magic will also crit each tic and last the entire fight.

I feel like Bard is the best class, as it has 1 half of the infinite Arena combo, but moreso because the Generalist passive allows you to learn every skill without leveling up extensively. I was able to beat the game in 10 hours, and after 14 I had every skill.

However, I found the Premed + Song combo fairly early on, and I can now level up a new character to 30 in less then 20 minutes to try different stat combos.

Thanks for your post of Premed + Song combo, that makes the life so easy :D
I'm also trying stat combos, and go with straight INT, STR and DEX respectively. I set three of them with same lvl 16, and same equipment, no damage boosting passive, try to figure out weapon damage calculation. Something funny I find is my INT monk actually deals a little better damage with autoattcks than STR and DEX monk, all have flame weapon on.

I think in NG+ INT is the best stat, it boosts staff damage insanely, and with flame weapon it boosts all the other weapons a fair amount, and most importantly, unlike STR and DEX build, with Aegis INT build tanks like shit.

Bard only serves as a supportive set of skills, going straight bard doesn't make any sense, while admittedly charm, lucky, generalist and song of inspiration are golden skills.

You can't. Just start over or finish the game and start NG+.

Edit: Beaten to the punch again!

No, unfortunately, you cannot. As far as I know, if you free the soul in the book or kill the witch, you cannot learn Witch abilities.

Why you would want to kill the only returning member cast member of the original game is beyond me, though. :)

    How Attack Stats Work

    View attachment 73870
Edit: Updated with actual stats from 5-35. FateRiddle was right, stat progression is a flat progression without diminishing returns. Updated with more weapon types.

Okay, so I did a lot of testing by leveling a character from 1->12 in the arena without spending any stat points.

Stat progression chart is attached for Bronze Sword, Iron Dagger, Pugilist's Tape, Flame Staff, Hunting Bow, and Stone Greatsword.

With the sword, you gain Attack Power roughly on a 3:4 ratio to STR (3 AP for every 4 points of STR). For DEX, you gain AP roughly on a 1:4 ratio. As for daggers, it is not simply the formulas reversed.

DEX AP progression for daggers starts off slightly slower for some reason but hits +21 at the same point as swords with STR; however, you get minimal gain from STR to AP with a dagger. STR doesn't also provide any bonus like DEX does with dodge, so there's not much point in pumping STR if you're using daggers unless you need to qualify for a specific skill.

As FateRiddle and I'd surmised, stat progression for unarmed is the same for STR and DEX. They both suck (about 1:3 for AP to stat point), but equally so.

Spell power gain is the easiest curve, it's straight 1:1 linear progression for Spell Power from INT. No other stats increase Spell Power. MikaMobile mentioned on Twitter that some Paladin spells scale with Charisma, but CHA doesn't affect spell power at all, and spell power definitely increases the damage of Radiance. So, if you want to gain spell damage, increase INT. Anything else is hidden information.

Bow attack power has one of the best gains from its primary stat, DEX, as it's slightly better than 1:1. Surprisingly, you also gain some bow AP from STR but at a much slower rate (1:3.5).

Colossal weapons get the best attack power gain from STR at an even better ratio than bows from DEX; however, no stats other than STR cause in increase in colossal weapon AP.

    Nice, thanks for that!

Regarding the monk, both str and dex build damage, which is unlike any other weapon. However, compared to going ninja and having all the dex damage with dodge, that does seem a better build. In fact, this makes me think of trying out a dex, int battlemage later...not there yet.

    Thanks for the test!
You overlooked one aspect though, even within the same category of weapon, say sword, starter sword and witherstrike have much different growing potential, I bought different tiers of swords and fists, proved it.

I did the same test, some numbers doesn't fit. I invested 15 STR, my dagger damage only raise from 8 to 11, that's almost 5:1 ratio. As for fists, one thing for sure is STR and DEX give the same mediocre boost to fist.

As for the diminishing return effect, it doesn't show in my test, but I didn't check numbers point by point, so I could be wrong. If you still at it, I hope you can carry out your test more thoroughly, so we can figure out the growth curve once for all.

FateRiddle is right about there not being diminishing returns, I'm going to update my original post with my findings momentarily!

Thanks for your response. I'm still not quite sure if Strength related skills like Power Attack or Cleave work (well) with nimble daggers. I understand that the "normal" damage done by daggers relates to DEX stat primarily (while damage done by bigger weapons relates to STR stat primarily), but does for example the 2,5 x damage by Power Attack work as well with daggers as with bigger weapons?
