Game Impressions Utterly brilliant in every way. Plays perfectly on my iPad Mini retina. Graphics are gorgeous, especially the environments. Characters carry the signature Mika charm. Animations are great and the game is just completely polished down to every detail. I have just so many good things to say about this game so far that I don't know where to start. I was afraid that I wouldn't like it, because I LOVED the party mechanic in Battleheart. I'm happy to say that while Legacy does play differently, it still captures the great feel of the original Battleheart. I love the new open-ended, non-linear gameplay. I like being able to run around and do different quests. Without spoiling anything, it seems there are actually different outcomes to quests (eg: while on quest, you may be presented with an option to do something else). I won't elaborate too much, but it seems like there's some good opportunity for replay there. The new class system is great. You can mix and match abilities, provided you have the stat requirement to do so. I don't really know how this will come to play later, but in theory, you can sort of 'build your own class', based on one of the game's many classes. There's a since of mystery and interest to the world. You don't just pick the class from a menu. You have to go out and find the second half of the classes. Without giving too much away, supposedly the Barbarian has "gone east", and so you have to go and find him. It takes me back to some of my favorite RPGs, where there was story and intrigue behind some of the characters. Combat is fluid, easy to control, and satisfying. The abilities have a satisfying punch (both functionally and visually). The camera effects Mika used in Battleheart are also used in Legacy, giving each ability a satisfying and visceral feel. The only one really minor issue I ran into was in the Level 3 mine quest (I can't recall the name), the UI seemed to stop functioning; I was unable to open either of the chests I found (the open chest button was visible, but disabled) and I wasn't able to click my hero portrait to change items. Lastly, I just have to say that I appreciate that Mika stuck to their roots and made this a premium experience. They easily could have charged for gold, potions, etc... and added to the overly-crowded f2p market. Instead, they delivered a compelling experience, at a fair price. I love that with the way potions are implemented, I can happily use them to my heart's content, and not worry that I'm going to need to cough up 3 gems to buy one in the future. All in all, a masterpiece that will definitely take many hours to full explore. Easy 5 stars and my GotY so far, on ANY platform.
Need some help here. I haven't played either of the Battleheart games and wanted to give one of them a shot. Which of the BH games is better? Does it matter if they're played in order?
They are very, very different. If you play the first one you will understand some of the character reference jokes made in the second completely different games except for the feel
To game is great, but I am the only one that finds the music a bit too calm/gentle for the type of game you're playing (IE : ARPG) ?
Game Impressions From the uplifting music and the stylistic and pretty graphics, to the smooth controls, smart and simple UI, varied combat mechanics, and GREAT progression systems, there is not much about Battleheart Legacy that would not place it at the absolute top tier of action RPGs for iOS. If anything, I'm none too fond of the writing. I like the humor, and the game mostly retains a sense of the epic in spite of rarely trying to establish an atmosphere of gravity (something that generally requires a lot of ingenuity and depth, and to project a powerful sense of immersion, to do in fantasy today). But to hear my character use expressions such as "dude" and "cool" when the game is NOT trying to be specifically comical, however, breaks immersion and takes me out of the silly-but-heroic suspended disbelief. There are so many more elegant ways to write casual or amusing conversation in a humorous fantasy setting, without relying on bro-speak and modern slang, but with the epic atmosphere and heroic sensation retained. Also, the overall narrative has yet to establish itself beyond a few vague allusions, and the presentation of general fantasy clichés for comedic effect. But perhaps it has no intention to, and perhaps it is not needed. (Even though an engaging narrative is almost always a bonus, even in a game where narration is not the focus, or where the plot in itself is a parody.) (Oh, also, the return to map and level up icons contrast sharply and badly with the rest of the UI, but in a game as polished as this, that is taking criticism to new anal levels ) Regardless, I think we finally (again) have found our Diablo-like for iOS. But far more innovative, touch-friendly and charming than any previous attempts. This is the casual open world RPG of 2014 so far, and a soothing oasis in which to lie without a care after a particular brutal humiliation in its distant and in soul and mind twisted relative Wayward Souls.
You're true, the music is calm, but i like it a lot! Anyway, thanks to the composer, it's a good job.
Yeah, but this is not battleheart Hence why when I stop and focus on music, I kinda wish it was a bit more dynamic
Wow... getting the Necromancer is incredibly dark. I feel like by getting it you lose something else but I can't be entirely sure.. I probably won't be going for that route this run but if I do go for magic next run, I'll probably go Necro first. I would say SO FAR, that one was the trickiest to unlock. I think I'm still missing a few more classes? I can't remember all of them but I have a lot of hidden ones already.
I really, really like the compositions. But yeah, some more upbeat and fast-paced battle music would have rounded out the aural atmosphere nicely. Not necessarily over-dramatic, cinematic LotRO-style war drums and braying horns. Perhaps something celtic-styled and merry and wild?
Loving it so far. Playing a ranger/bard. Trouble is, the game crashes quite often when I summon my wolf pal. Maybe if I'm moving at the same time? Retina iPad Mini.
Just came in to say I am loving this very very much. Playing ranger/rogue and it's amazing. I have the same problem with crashing when summoning the wolf, however. It's not while moving - it happens when I'mm not - but it could be because I'm in combat? Not sure. Amazing job here, anyway. This is exactly the game I hoped it would be.
This game is as awesome as I had hoped! This is premium ARPG I have been dying for on ios! I hoped oceanhorn would be better, but this has topped my expectations! (Been sat in the toilet at work playing this for the past 2 hours haha!) Also, for something to have stolen my attention away from super time force, it has to be exceptional!
