TL;DR Basically they thought the game was garbage.

Not really "they". These reviews are usually just what one guy thinks, especially the wireless and indie games that they don't take very seriously on sites like IGN. I think their reviews can be good but they are also highly erratic.

Glad I bought the game before I read a review like that. This game is in my top 2 or 3 most fun on my ipad, I'm glad I bought it (minor issues aside). I'd also be willing to pay for more content, if that's the way the developers decide to go - I like it that much. The reviewer is dead wrong on about 90% of the the stuff he said.

I din't agree with them as far as presentation goes, but they are right about the control issues. I just think it makes the game highly frustrating, not unplayable.

IGN gave Zombieville a harsh review too way back in the day, I guess this game is doomed to obscurity now, too! :D

He didn't even play long enough to hear more than one of the musical themes. Wow. In-depth coverage. :)

    Person? Student somewhere
    You tell me
Love the game and fixes. After crashes were fixed didn't put it down til I beat the last boss. I do want to know if there's mote characters to be found. There's 4 spaces left in my keep but I've only been able to get Lucille:The only cleric Sheppherd the knight, wynter the only witch, baelrosh:barbarian Garrick:barbarian, the black knight, robin the rogue, the other rogue guy, feung the monk, bromswell and thistle the wizards and that's that. My only bum out is that before you beat the first realm, the tavern becomes useless unless I'm missing something.

    Ha srsly?
    Where do I live?
My Level 55 Cleric can survive one hit with no buffs. You need around 80 def with whatever hp bonus's you get by that level. My Monk (level 44) can survive 1 hit as well but his def is much higher at 103.

Ha. It ain't you. There's just no subtle way to do it and to make sure people get it. You either get to be smooth, cool and deadpan....or you get to make sure people know you're being sarcastic.

Anyway, I lolled at the sarcastic remark. :D

IGN does not equal good review.

    This^

IGN is not a good source for reviews. They were good a decade ago, but now they are useless. If there is a meta score for the game, that is the best source. A combination of "critic" reviews and user reviews.

Reviews are relative anyway. I have loved games with bad reviews and hated games with good reviews.

Battleheart is easily one of the best games I've ever played on a portable device. IGN hasn't been relevant since the Clinton administration.

Is there a way to see your characters' hit points? It's hard to know the relative utility of things like life leech without it.

Or if Mika or whomever can give me an idea of appr. how many HPs a level 30 character has, that'd be great.

HP is actually kind of a "hidden" stat, and is just based on level. To be exact, every character starts with 1000 hp, and gain 15 every level, so the difference in health between a level 1 and a level 30 is not even a 50% gain. The main reason it even exists is primarily so that healing doesn't scale in a really crazy way. For instance, in early versions of the game, health didn't actually increase, only armor and power. But I was finding that towards the end of the game, the cleric's heals were huge relative to your total health, which made damage either trivial, or extremely spiky, hence the addition of bigger health pools as you level up to kind of chill out the pace of combat, and make the total % health gained per heal cast not change so radically.

Edit: the exception to this is thistle who has a base health of 800, but a bit more power than bromswell.

Yeah I trust Eli's review of the game much more, I bought the game solely off of his recommendation. I remember see an article a while back that was point out the upward trend in ign scores/review inflation.

Regardless, I hope MikaMobile keeps up the good work

lol yeah since when does ign give in depth reviews to iphone games.

I bet that the reviewer just played the game for 30 minutes and decided "hey lets give my review". He didn't even talk much about the game like the weapons or characters or all the content stuff or even the gameplay much, like he didn't know what he was saying. All I heard was the controls are hard to use and plain background and plain music.

TL;DR: don't go to ign for iphone game reviews, stick with someplace that cares about ios games like slide to play or right here in good ol' touch arcade!

To be fair, I still find the current control scheme pretty much hit or miss. Selecting overlapping characters is a problem that needs to be addressed.
